Ms. Schoonover The Third Grade Reading Guarantee (SB316), encourages school districts to give strong emphasis on reading instruction and intervention in the primary grades. Teachers of struggling readers in grades K­3 are required to develop an individualized reading improvement and monitoring plan (RIMP) to address reading deficits. Reading improvement and monitoring plans allow for teachers and parents to work together to target reading deficiencies and to outline research based reading interventions. The RIMP includes the following: ● Identification of the student’s specific reading deficiency. ● A description of proposed intervention support that will target the student’s identified reading deficiencies. ● Opportunities for the student’s parents or guardians to be involved in the instructional services. ● A process to monitor the implementation of the student’s instructional services. ● A reading curriculum during regular school hours that assists students to read at grade level, provides for reliable assessments, and provides ongoing analysis of each student’s reading progress. ● A statement that unless the student attains the appropriate level of reading competency by the end of grade three, the student will be retained. We are dedicated to meeting the complete educational needs of our students by providing research­based interventions to assure student success for our struggling readers. , previously known as Orange Marmalade’s and N.B.A. (No Bullying Allowed). K­5 students can be recognized by any MHS staff member when they exhibit one of the ​
five character traits​
listed above. When a student receives a Lion Pride slip, they will put their slip in the appropriate grade level bin in the front office and will pick a paw print sticker to wear for the day to help them feel proud of themselves for contributing to our school’s success, and to allow others to acknowledge them for their Prideful Act​

hroughout the day! In addition, at the beginning of each school week, three students will be picked randomly to have their Prideful Act announced during morning announcements, have their picture taken for display on the main hall T.V. monitor, and to be recognized in the local Chagrin Valley Times. Please join us in helping acknowledge the success of our students as you are in the building and notice a student wearing a special paw print sticker! . A Little Background About the Foundation Orange Schools Foundation accepts, manages, invests, and distributes monies for scholarship, education programs, facilities, and instructional development. Since 1991, the Foundation has donated over $450,000 to the district by underwriting grants for programs and projects that are innovative, out of the ordinary, and out of budget. It also funds technological and aesthetic enhancements, and special academic, artistic, and athletic opportunities for students that would not otherwise be available. We have ​
Designated Funds​
that can be established “in honor of” or “in memory of” individuals, or can be awarded as scholarships to students – usually seniors – who demonstrate excellence and fulfillment of fund’s criteria. During last school year, we managed 21 designated funds totaling over $150,000, and approved 12 grants for over $37,000, and donated $4,000 each to MHS, BMS, and OHS for projects initiated by the principals. Over the next several issues we will share stories and showcase the project we have funded. rd​
