U.S. Postage PAID Vermillion, SD Permit No. 14 Jason Mahowald Head Swimming & Diving Coach NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION COACH BIOGRAPHY The 2015-16 season will be Jason Mahowald’s 11th as the head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at the University of South Dakota. Mahowald has guided the Coyote program through the transition to Division I. During the 2013-14 season, the women had a top finish of second at the Rochester Invitational and topped UNI and Western Illinois in duals. Diver Greysen Hertting won the league’s 1-meter and 3-meter titles, was named the league’s Diver of the Year and advanced the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. Swimmer Morgan Barnes was named to the Academic All-Summit League team and diver Dustin Gens qualified for the Zone D Diving Championships. Mahowald was named as one of the outstanding coaches by the American Swimming Coaches Association for 2007, 2008, and 2009. He has also been named Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 & 2009, and University of South Dakota Coach of the Year in 2009. Overall, the Mahowald lead Coyotes produced a total of 21 All-American performances, and a have brought a total of 26 NCAA All-American swimming awards. They have also produced one NCAA Women of the Year finalist in Coyote athlete Jill Smolczyk. Mahowald earned a B.S. degree in business administration from Wisconsin- Stevens Point (2002) and received a Master’s degree in sports administration from Ball State (2005). A four-year letter winner, Mahowald was a swimming and diving team captain at Wisconsin-Stevens Point. While in high school, he was a national top-16 swimmer for the HastingsArea Swim Team. Assistant Coaches & Resident Camp Counselors Members of the University of South Dakota Men’s and Women’s coaching staff and teams serve as coaches and counselors at our camp. Counselors will be living in the residence halls with the campers to assure safety and supervision. We provide a great swimmer to coach ratio for personalized attention. USD SWIM CAMPS 2016 JUNE 19-24 TRAINING SCHEDULE CAMP FEES (includes 7.5% sales tax) Fees for the 2016 Camp are $450 per session for resident campers. Fees cover facility use, room and board, coaching, supervision and camp t-shirt. Fees for a commuter camper are $350 per session and includes facility use, coaching, supervision and camp t-shirt. Commuter campers would need to be dropped off at the DakotaDome each morning at 8 a.m. and picked up from the Dome at 9 p.m. 7-8 a.m. Breakfast 8-9 a.m. Dryland 9-10:30 a.m. Conditioning Workout NoonLunch 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Classroom Session 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Stroke Session # 1 5:30 p.m. Dinner 6:30 p.m. Stroke Session #2 8:00 p.m. Evening Activities 10:00 p.m. Lights Out EQUIPMENT INSURANCE Elite Training Group (13 - 18 years old) SUPERVISION DAILY SCHEDULE Training at the USD Swimming & Diving Camp focuses on both physical condition and superior stroke and board technique. Camp includes one-hour sessions focusing on swimming & diving specific dry-land, strength training and flexibility exercises. Two daily sessions focus specifically on technique work. Each athlete will also receive video analysis of their strokes and dives while at camp. Age Group Schedule (8-12 years old) 7-8 a.m. Breakfast 8-9 a.m. Weight Room Session 9-11 a.m. Conditioning Workout Noon Lunch 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Classroom Session 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Stroke Session # 1 5:30 p.m. Dinner 6:30 p.m. Stroke Session #2 8:00 p.m. Evening Activities 10:00 p.m. Lights Out All campers are supervised during all activities. Campers should bring all personal swimming gear —suits, goggles, caps, plenty of towels and a combination lock. Training equipment (kick board, fins, etc.) should be left at home. Casual clothes (t-shirts, shorts, etc.) and athletic tennis shoes are required for dry-land exercises. Resident campers also need an alarm clock, bed linens, blanket or sleeping bag, personal toiletries,water bottle, plenty of comfortable shorts, t-shirts, socks, towels, sturdy athletic shoes and a pillow. Experienced and mature male and female coaches/ counselors provide 24-hour supervision for all swimmers. Counselors are members of the USD Swimming & Diving team. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Planned recreational activities are available Monday– Thursday after the evening stroke session. Activities may include a climbing wall, scavenger hunt, pizza & movie night, tye-dye t-shirt night, ultimate frisbee and other activities. CHECKING IN & OUT Check-in occurs on Sunday at 5 p.m. All campers will check out on Friday at 11 a.m. Campers will be supervised until they are checked out. USD Swim Camps can not be held responsible of injuries sustained during camp. All campers must provide their own insurance. Parental Consent forms will be emailed once registration is complete. REGISTRATION PROCEDURE Male and female swimmers of any ability level are welcome at camp. Camp space is available on a first come, first serve basis.
