CEO and cofounder Charlie Ergen remembers
the beginnings of DISH as if it were yesterday.
The Tennessee native was hauling one of those
enormous C-band TV dish antennas in a pickup
truck, along with his fellow cofounders Candy
Ergen and Jim DeFranco. It was one of only two
antennas they owned in the early 1980s. While
in a remote part of Colorado, an enormous
gust of wind blew and ripped the antenna
right off of their trailer and into a roadside
ditch. “There goes half of the company,” they
collectively thought. But fast-forward 35 years
later and you can see they not only survived
but flourished, and they now serve millions of
customers like yourself across our nation. Their
success is attributed to remaining true to their
original mission in delivering a better home
entertainment experience by always putting the
customers’ needs first.

Consider Hopper’s Home tab something
similar, as there’s no place like Home when
it comes to seeing all of your recordings
and recommendations gathered in one
spot. But speaking of those ruby slippers:
A total of four pairs are known to exist.
One’s on display at the Smithsonian,
another was acquired for the Academy
of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’
planned museum, one pair was stolen in
2005 from the Judy Garland Museum in
Grand Rapids, Minn., and the location of
the other is unknown.

Here’s a deeper dive into SETTINGS, where, just like a smartphone, you can
customize your system to your personal preferences. Use your remote to highlight
the setting you wish to access and press SELECT.
Parental Controls
Parental locks allow you to limit the
programming that can be watched on your
receiver.
Favorite Channels
Set up and manage lists of your favorite
channels.
Internet
Connect your receiver to the Internet so you
can stream Netflix, access On Demand and
apps like Game Finder, and more.
Bluetooth Audio
Pair and manage your Bluetooth audio
devices, like your wireless headphones, sound
bars and speakers.
PrimeTime Anytime
Choose whether to hide or show
notifications. Live TV notifications include
Caller ID, shared viewing and more.
Timer Defaults
Customize the default settings for timers
you create. You can add a few minutes of
recording time to the beginning or end of a
program.
Mobile Devices
Pair a mobile device to your Hopper in order
to use other compatible apps to enhance your
viewing experience.
Standby
Control the amount of time to wait before the
Hopper enters standby.
Change your settings to enable PrimeTime
Anytime recordings, select which channels to
record, which days to record, and how long
you want to keep recordings.
Audio Output
Closed Captioning
OTA Antenna
Turn on and off closed captioning (CC), and
customize text size, color and background.
Secondary Audio
Listen to programs with descriptive audio or
in an alternate language when available.

Parental Controls & Creating A Password
By setting parental controls you can limit your children’s access to channels, TV
shows, movies and apps. You can also restrict purchases and hide adult-rated
programs and channels from showing up in the guide. Here’s how to set it up.
1 Press HOME twice on your
remote control and highlight
Settings > Parental Controls.
2 Select your desired restrictions
from the options onscreen.
3 Before you can add restrictions
you will need to create a 4-digit
password. While parental
controls are on, this 4-digit
passcode must be entered
whenever you wish to access
restricted video content,
channels or apps.
Anytime you see a

PRIMETIME ANYTIME
TV ACTIVITY
One of the best features of the Hopper
is PrimeTime Anytime, which gives
you the power to record all the series,
specials, sporting events, movies —
actually, whatever is airing — on ABC,
CBS, NBC and FOX during primetime
hours. It’s the one feature that gives
you peace of mind, knowing PrimeTime
Anytime has got you covered.
Setting Up & Using PrimeTime Anytime
Is Easy!
Just press HOME twice on your remote to get to the menu and then go
to PrimeTime Anytime. You also can customize the networks and times
you wish to record, as well as customize how many days you wish to
keep the recordings.
To view your shows press DVR > PrimeTime Anytime. When you open
your PrimeTime Anytime folder, you have multiple options for displaying
the content. Press the OPTIONS button on your remote to group your
recordings alphabetically (A-Z) or by Recording Date.
The Hopper comes equipped with three tuners (a tuner gives you the ability to watch and
record programs). If you enable the PrimeTime Anytime feature, one of those tuners will be
used to record all of the primetime shows on each of the four major networks (ABC, CBS,
NBC and FOX), and the other tuners can be used to record individual shows on whichever
channels you choose. When all of the Hopper’s tuners are in use, a TV Activity screen will
appear, asking you to press SELECT and then determine what shows to record.

Press the GUIDE button on your remote control. Use the CHANNEL UP and CHANNEL DOWN buttons to navigate,
or enter a channel number to go directly to that channel.
Here are just a few of the things

• Create Favorite Channel Lists — Every
member of your family can create their
list of favorite channels so only those
channels appear when browsing in the
Guide.
QUICK TIP!
Make the font size larger!
Press the OPTIONS button on
your remote and select Guide
Settings > Larger Text.
• Only See Channels You Subscribe To —
Display all DISH channels or just the channels
you subscribe to with the Subscribed/Unsubscribed
option.
• Access Your Guide Settings — With the Guide Settings
option you can make text larger, change the order
networks are listed, hide adult channels and more.
