Miele offers five standard hood designs – offering the best range for your kitchen in terms of
style and function.
Wall mounted hoods
A wall mounted ventilation hood gives
focus to the cooking area in the kitchen and
can be fitted either in between two wall
units, or on its own for a bold
statement. Miele wall mounted hoods have
stunning lines and are finished beautifully.
Available in stainless steel, or in a
combination of glass and stainless steel,
these hoods accentuate the ambience of
any kitchen. Island mounted hoods
If you are planning a large cooking island in
your kitchen an island hood from Miele will
provide the crowning glory as the central
feature in the room. Be creative with your
design and let the clear contours and
accents of these hoods take centre stage.

Downdraft hoods
If you don't want to see your ventilation
hood, and would like it to disappear when
you are done cooking, the Miele Downdraft
hoods are the perfect choice. With a
motorized rise and retract function, these
hoods perform when needed and
disappear when not needed.
Integrated hoods
Personalize your kitchen design – with an
integrated hood you can make the most of
out a character feature such as a chimney
breast. These hoods offer practically
unlimited planning and design freedom and
are ideal for hand-crafted kitchen
designs. Slot-in hoods
If you don't want to see the ventilation hood
all, the Miele slot-in hood is the one for you.
With a furniture door to match the kitchen it
disappears discreetly in a row of wall
units. Invisible when shut, this hood blends
perfectly into its background.

Miele ventilation hood widths
How wide does the ventilation hood need
to be? This depends firstly on width of
the cooktop and then on the size of your
kitchen.
Remember, the hood should be the same
size or slightly wider than the cooktop
below it. This way you can be certain of
capturing all the rising cooking vapours
and benefit fully from the hood's power. If
there's not enough space for this, then the
hood should be at least as wide as the
cooktop.

Controls
There's a range of controls to suit
different environments
Miele uses intelligent technology to ensure
the optimum room climate - whatever the
kitchen setting. During cooking, and in
particular when frying, vapours are given
off which consist of a mixture of steam,
particles of fat and odours. If air in the
room is not extracted or filtered these
vapours will remain in the room and affect
the climate in it. Over a period of time this
will affect the kitchen furniture, soft
furnishings, paintwork etc. To ensure
effective cleansing of the room air there
are two possibilities: extraction to the
outside and recirculation extraction. Both
methods have their advantages. Which
one suits you best will depend on a number
or factors which are explained on the next
page.

Extraction mode: Effective and particularly quiet
An extraction mode ventilation hood can be very effective and
easily installed.
Advantages:
+ very efficient
+ high throughput of air
+ moisture is extracted to the outside
+ no additional costs
Limitations:
- the air throughput level depends on the type of ducting used and
its diameter
- it cannot be used everywhere, e.g. in multiple occupancy dwellings or flats with shared ducting systems
- heat loss during cold spells and in situations where there is an air
conditioning system Recirculation mode:
Simple and efficient
Recirculation mode ventilation hoods draw the cooking vapours in
and pass them through a number of filtration layers to remove
grease and fatty particles. The cleaned air is then redirected back
into the kitchen. This air circulation takes place in a closed room
and there is no need for ducting systems, or for holes to be drilled
in walls or ceilings. Recirculation cooker hoods are very easy to
install and are very often the only option available because of
building constraints.
A recirculation ventilation hood is a good option above an electric
Cooktop. If you have a gas cooktop, however, you would be
advised to install an extraction mode hood because of the amount
of heat given off. Advantages:
+ easy to install
+ building alterations are not needed
+ no loss of energy: heated air (from the central heating) or cool air
(from an air conditioning system) stays in the room
+ good power output
Limitations:
- moisture generally stays in the room; additional extraction needed - active charcoal filters for filtering out odours need to be replaced
on a regular basis

Island Ventilation hood
The crowning glory for any kitchen is
Miele's island hood. Its unusual design will
lend your kitchen a unique ambience. Flat
when shut this hood has a powerful motor
which opens out the canopy when switched
on and removes cooking vapours very
effectively. When you've finished cooking
the canopy closes itself gently and quietly
and indirect lighting in the hood sets the
scene, elegantly.
DA 424 V "Varia" Island Ventilation
hood
Miele's height adjustable "Varia" ventilation
hood solves an age-old problem: install the
hood too high and it won't extract vapours
properly; install it too low and you won't see
the cooktop properly and the kitchen will
look out of proportion. A "Varia" hood from
Miele glides up and down by up to 30 cm at
the push of a button. So it can be set to the
ergonomically correct height for any user.
And you can see what you're doing whilst
still being able to see around the kitchen.

NoSmell active charcoal
filters
Miele recirculation mode
ventilation hoods use a
NoSmell active charcoal filter in addition to
the grease filter. This Miele filter not only
binds unpleasant odours, it also neutralises
them. The advantage: when you switch the
hood on again the day after cooking
something with a strong smell, such as fish,
you won't notice a thing.
Stainless steel grease filters
Miele ventilation hoods have 10-layer
stainless steel grease filters. The outer
layer and frame are made from high quality
stainless steel. Cleaning in a dishwasher
does not affect the appearance of these
filters, so you know your Miele cooker hood
will keep its good looks for a long time.
Miele CleanCover
The Miele CleanCover is situated behind
the grease filters: instead of sharp edges
and electrical components all you can see
is a smooth, enclosed surface which
protects you from touching cables and
moving parts. It's particularly easy to clean
too - Miele takes care of the details - for

Easy operation
Halogen lights with dropdown mechanism
Halogen lights on Miele ventilation
hoods illuminate the cooktop with warm
and even lighting. They are also incredibly
easy to look after and the lamp is quick and
easy to replace: a light press releases the
lamp cover enabling the lamp to be
removed and replaced with a new one. Flip
the cover back up again and it simply clicks
back into place.

Delayed Shutdown function
The automatic run-on function
can be used to ensure that
vapours and odours are
thoroughly removed from the kitchen after
cooking. The fan can be set to continue
running for 5 or 15 minutes after cooking
has finished before switching itself off
automatically.
Dimmable lighting
Some Miele ventilation hoods
(those with the delayed
shutdown function and a
grease filter indicator) have dimmable
lighting. Holding the illumination button
held it adjusts the brightness of the lighting
so you can set the ambience and
atmosphere in the kitchen just how you
want it.

Optical reminder for grease
and charcoal filters
A red LED will light up if the
grease filter or charcoal filter
on your Miele hood is saturated to
remind you to clean or change it as soon as
possible. The length of time before this
reminder appears can be set to suit the
amount of cooking you do. The grease filter
indicator light can be set to come on
after 20, 30, 40 or 50 operating hours, and
the charcoal filter replacement reminder
after 120, 180 or 240 hours.

in Arnsberg Germany where they are
produced largely by hand. Each and
every Miele hood is a one-off. Each stage
of the manufacturing process involves a
certain amount of manual crafting from
shaping the steel to welding and polishing
it. The involvement of the staff, their
knowledge, creative talent and enthusiasm
play a large part in Miele's success in the
market.

For added peace of mind and safety the
hood will switch itself off automatically after
10 hours.
Powerful motor
Miele ventilation hoods have a high quality
double-sided radial fan. This powerful unit
ensures excellent air throughput at all times
and optimum vapour extraction. Despite
its power it's delightfully quiet in operation.
Auto switch off of the intensive setting
The intensive setting offers a very high air
throughput level and is intended for shortterm operation, for instance when flash
frying food that has a tendency to smoke or
give off intense vapours. It can be
programmed to automatically switch down
to setting 3 after a period of 10 minutes.
Single pane safety glass
Miele stainless steel and glass ventilation
hoods use a single pane of safety glass for
the canopy. This glass is designed to
shatter into lots of tiny pieces with no sharp
edges should it ever get broken. So should
the unlikely ever happen, Miele has put
your safety first.
