Bold is adding a new family to
shake up the Forrester-LoganSpencer clans. Meet the Fullers –
mom Quinn and her son Wyatt,
who’ll arrive in LA (towards
the end of 2014 on SA screens)
with some big secrets. Quinn’s
played by Rena Sofer (who’s
been on Loving, Heroes and 24),
while her son Wyatt’s played by
Darin Brooks, who’s best known
for playing Max Brady on rival
soapie Days Of Our Lives.
Shock exits!
Some big-name stars are leaving their soap homes.
She’s played Bold’s Dr Taylor Hayes Forrester for almost 20 years
but Hunter Tylo won’t be sticking around, confirming that she’s
off contract. While B&B says they’re still in contract negotiations,
Hunter says the negotiations are over and that she’s looking for
other roles. “I’m moving forward, opening up to the thousands of
acting roles available,” she said on Facebook. Also departing Bold
is Taylor’s TV daughter Steffy – actress Jacqueline MacInnes Wood
is taking a break but will be back. Another shocker is Young & The
Restless’s Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), who’s quit the soapie after 16
years, only saying, “It’s been one of the greatest rides of my life.”
STATESIDE SOAPS
Bold Eric’s uneasy when Brooke asks him to pretend to be her
babydaddy, while Bridget and Rick tease Brooke for sucking
up to Eric, unaware of what’s really going on. Liam tells Steffy
about the miscarriage, Taylor helps her grief-stricken daughter,
and Donna’s the piggy-in-the-middle between her sisters.
Days EJ and Sami have reason to celebrate, and John’s revenge
plans need a rethink. Will tries to save Nick but only manages to
get into trouble himself, and Hope reasons that the only way to
catch a criminal is to think like a criminal.
Y&R Paul warns Carmine, the doctored paternity test becomes
a problem for Nick, and Cane tries to fix things with Jill. Avery’s
not pleased that Dylan’s having a baby with Chelsea, and Victor
bullies Victoria when it comes to Adam. p

the opportunity for a huge payday. He’s going
to drive everyone in town to a safe house and
charge them for the service. And that’s when
the bumbling fool’s plans go awry, not least
because the safe house is full of cops.
Why it’s hot: this is like Piranha 3DD – off-centre
but brilliant. It’s low-budget Brit humour at its
living-dead best. The comedy is cheesy and the
plot is holier than Swiss cheese, but it works
oh-so well, especially if you’re a sucker for dry
British gangster humour.

You’ve been wrestling for 13 years. Do you think that
you’ve established yourself in the WWE? Dude, if you
asked me that last year, I’d have said yes. It’s a different

the ring. And not competing means less screentime. But
there’s a lot for me to still do in my career, so I’ve got time.
You’re a second-generation wrestler – your dad wrestled
in SA under the name The Pink Panther… I thought about
following his lead with a name, but being in the ring, you
play a version of yourself and you just evolve.
So when did you decide that wrestling was your dream
job? I was about nine – I played the WWE Royal Rumble
game on Sega and told my mom, “Ma, this is my future.”
And what’s your earliest wrestling memory? Wow…
probably going to the events with my dad. I got to sit in
the front row and watch it all live. I also met Hulk Hogan
as a kid and I didn’t know who he was. Later on I was, like,
“Hey, I met that guy!”

heroes? Yes, but my dad
came first. Then it was the
old-school pros, like “The
American Dream” Dusty
Rhodes, “Mr Perfect” Curt
Hennig… the guys that set

You said that you’ve had
a couple of injuries. Which
was the worst? I think the
big thing is that I haven’t had
surgery, you know? Two years
ago, at WrestleMania, I was in
a pre-show match and tore all
the ligaments in my left arm.
Bru, it was ridiculously sore
but I didn’t have surgery. I let
it heal naturally, and while
it’s fine now – I can do all my
moves and workout and all
that – it’s not the same.
A match at WrestleMania’s
obviously a big deal… Ja,
totally. Every wrestler wants
to be there, to wrestle on the
big stage. My perfect match
would be at WrestleMania…
something extreme, like a
Tables, Ladders, Chairs match
where I can flip and fly and
jump and show off my skills.
You’ll be home at the end
of July when the WWE tours
SA. What kind of reception
are you expecting? It’s been
about three years since I was

our moves at home, school…

Lastly, have you ever been
in the ring with someone
and wondered “why me?”
Definitely. The one that sticks
out is Randy Orton. He’s the
complete wrestler and he can
be vicious. One minute he’s
all cool and stuff, then he
snaps and you’re in trouble.

Please tell me, tvplus: when will we see season 6 of True
Blood? KAZ, WESTERN CAPE
The good news first: True Blood 6 will be back on M-Net Series
in July. With more Sookie and Eric and blood, this season will
continue with the usual vampy sexiness. However, judging by
the trailers we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks, this season
could very likely be the final nail in the True Blood coffin. Critics
have already blasted the upcoming season, claiming the show has
reached a new low and has become too over-the-top and ridiculous.
Let’s just hope that new showrunner Brian Buckner will be able to
save Sookie and the gang before the series bleeds out.

HIT REVERSE
While SORAS is mostly used to make
characters older, there are a few rare cases
where it’s used in reverse. All My Children’s
Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) has been made
younger no less than three times. When
the show premiered in 1970, Erica’s birth
year was 1954. But in 1993, writers changed
it to 1956. Writers again decided to make
Erica more youthful in 2002 and she’s now
known to have been born in 1962.
GRIPPING VIEWING IS WHAT COUNTS
But, as the saying goes, age is only a
number. And whether these numbers add
up or not (they don’t – we’ve checked), we
shouldn’t be too fazed about it. As long as
we get our usual dose of daily drama, we’re
happy with our characters – regardless of
how they’ve aged.
SORAS IN SA… SOMETIMES
Local SORAS cases are few and far
between. Here are two examples…

Age defying
TWEAK THE TEEN
So why do US soapies SORAS their kids so
often? Firstly, it’s much easier getting an
older kid to learn lines than a six-year-old,
although there are exceptions like Days’
Ciara Brady, who’s played by 10-year-old
Lauren Boles. But more importantly,
teenagers can bring more drama and
steamy romance to a storyline. It can go
too far though and leave fans scratching
their heads. Take Y&R’s Billy Abbott (Billy
Miller) as an example. Born in 1993, the
youngster quickly morphed into a teen
and in 1999 he was 15 years old. Do the
math. Billy Miller, by the way, is 33.
