L ANCING DEVICE
FOR FINGERTIP AND ALTERNATIVE SITE TESTING
The M ICROLET® 2 lancing device from Bayer is a
simple to use lancing device with a lancet ejection
mechanism. The ergonomic design allows you
to hold the device securely for capillary blood
sampling. Use MICROLET ® lancets from Bayer with
the MICROLET ®2 lancing device for best results.
Use the GREY adjustable endcap for fingertip
testing only. Use the CLEAR endcap for alternative
site testing (AST) on the palm or forearm. Please
consult your meter system user guide before
performing alternative site testing as it provides
important information about the best testing sites
for your system. Alternative site testing (AST) is
recommended only when it is more than 2 hours
after a meal, diabetes medication, or exercise.

exercise).
• If you are unable to feel symptoms of low blood sugar
(hypoglycaemic unawareness).
• If you get alternative site blood sugar results that do not agree with
how you feel.
• During illness or during times of stress.
• If you will be driving a car or operating machinery.
• To calibrate a device or verify a low blood sugar level.

POTENTIAL BIOHAZARD
• The MICROLET 2 lancing device is for single patient use. Do not share it with anyone including other family members. Do not use on
multiple patients.
• The MICROLET 2 lancing device should not be used for assisted blood draws by health care professionals or at health care
provision sites.
• Do not reuse lancets. Use a new MICROLET lancet each time you test because it is no longer sterile after each use.
• Always wash your hands well with soap and water before and after handling the lancing device.
• Always dispose of the used lancet as medical waste or as advised by your health care professional. All products that come in
contact with human blood should be handled as if capable of transmitting infectious diseases.
PREPARING YOUR M ICROLET 2 LANCING DEVICE
1. Prepare the testing site. Wash your hands and puncture site
with soap and warm water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
2. Remove the endcap. In one hand, hold the MICROLET 2 lancing
device with your thumb on the grip indent as shown in drawing 2.
In your other hand, hold the endcap dial and gently snap off the
endcap from top to bottom.
3. Hold a MICROLET lancet and rotate the protective cap 1/4
turn but do not remove it. Always use MICROLET lancets for best
operation.
3.
4. Firmly push the lancet straight into the
lancet holder. After you hear or feel the “click,”
continue pushing until the lancet comes to a
complete stop. Twist off the protective cap and
save for disposal of used lancet.

5. Test immediately after the blood drop has formed.
Do not test the blood sample if you get: • Smeared blood • Runny blood
• Clotted blood • Clear fluid mixed with the blood
6. Wipe the puncture site with a clean, dry tissue and maintain pressure on the site
until the bleeding stops.
EJECTING AND DISPOSING OF THE USED LANCET
Always dispose of the used lancet as medical waste to prevent injury or contamination to others. Use a new MICROLET lancet each time
you test.
Do not reuse.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
Your M ICROLET 2 lancing device should be cleaned and
disinfected once a week. Use only germicidal wipes containing
0.55% sodium hypochlorite (bleach), which has been proven to
be safe to use with the MICROLET 2 lancing device.
Cleaning is the removal of visible dirt and debris, but does
not reduce the risk for transmission of infectious diseases.
Your MICROLET 2 lancing device should be cleaned of dirt and
debris once a week.
Disinfecting (if performed properly) reduces the risk of
transmitting infectious diseases. Your lancing device should
be disinfected once a week.
NOTE: If your lancing device is being operated by a
second person who is providing testing assistance to you,
the lancing device should be disinfected prior to use by the
second person.
