MATERIALS:
For ea pillow 2 skeins Patons Divine yarn in Soft Earth or Deep Earth, Caron 4 ply yarn in
Cream, size H and 6 crochet hooks or hooks to obtain gauge, needle to take yarn, needle to take
DMC Pearl Cotton, stuffing, DMC size 5 pearl cotton in Blue (806), White (Blanc) and Dark
Brown (3371), 4 yards 7\8” wide ribbon for pillow with braids or 2-3\4 yards 3-8” wide ribbon
for other pillow.
GAUGE: Patons Earth: 3 hdc sts = 1”, 2 rows hdc = 1”. Caron Cream 4 ply: (sc,dc) twice = 1”,
5 rows sc, dc pattern = 1-1\2”. DMC: 4 hdc = 1\2”, 3 rows hdc = 1\2”.
FINISHED PILLOW: is about 11-1\4” diameter without pig-tails\braids.
FRONT\BACK OF PILLOW (MAKE TWO):
With H hook and Patons Earth yarn ch-4, sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch-1, 12 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (12 sts)
RND 2-3: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (18 sts)(27 sts)
RND 4: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (36 sts)
RND 7: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
RND 10: Rep rnd 7.
RND 11: Rep rnd 9. (80 sts)
RND 12: Rep rnd 7. End rnd 12 fasten off.
PILLOW SIDES:
ROW 1: With Earth and H hook ch-6, hdc 3rd ch from hook, hdc ea ch across, ch-1, turn.
(4 sts)
ROW 2: Hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn.
Rep row 2 until piece will fit around outer edge of pillow front. With needle and yarn sew
short ends tog to form an lp. Sew long edge of lp to ea side of pillow stuffing as you sew.
BRAIDS (MAKE FOUR):
With Dark Earth and H hook ch-3, sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch-1, work 6 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (6 sts)
RND 2-34: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. End rnd 34 fasten off.
Cut six 24” lengths of 7\8” ribbon. Tack tog one braid, a length of ribbon and another
braid. Braid the 3 strips tog like you would for hair. Tack bottom to hold. Tie another of the
ribbons in a bow at the top of the braid. Tie a third ribbon in a bow at the bottom of the braid.
Rep with the last 3 sections of ribbon and last 2 crochet pieces for braid. Sew completed braid to
either side of Dark Earth pillow.
BUBBLE PONYTAILS (MAKE TWO):
With Soft Earth and H hook ch-3, sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch-1, work 8 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (8 sts)
RND 2-4: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (12 sts)(18

RND 5-7: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.

Cut four 24” lengths of the 3\8” wide ribbon. Leaving a seven-inch tail wrap the ribbon
around the decrease rows bet stuffed bubbles on the ponytail. Tie in a bow and trim ends. Rep
this for a total of two times on ea ponytail. Sew to ea side of Soft Earth pillow.
FACE (MAKE ONE FOR EA PILLOW):
ROW 1: With Cream 4 ply yarn and H hook ch-15, sc 2nd ch from hook, (dc next ch, sc
next ch) across to last ch, dc last ch, ch-1, turn. (14 sts)

last ch, turn piece so you are now working across the bottom of the foundation ch (in the bottom
of sts just made), hdc ea ch across, ch-1, turn. (8 sts)
ROW 2: Hdc next 3 sts, 2 hdc next 2, hdc last 3 sts, ch-1, turn. (10 sts)
ROW 3: Hdc next 3 sts, 2 hdc next 4, hdc last 3 sts, join White DMC, fasten off Blue, ch-1,
turn. (14 sts)
ROW 4: Hdc next 5 sts, 2 hdc next 4, hdc last 5 sts, ch-1, turn. (18 sts)

With a double strand of White DMC make one French knot in the center of one and make
2 French knots in the center of the second eye.
CHEEKS (MAKE TWO FOR EA PILLOW):
RND 1: With Dusty Rose DMC and 6 hook leaving a long tail loosely ch-3, work 8 hdc in
3rd ch, sl st top beg hdc, pull closed, ch-1, turn. (8 sts)
RND 2-4: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (12 sts)(18
sts)(27 sts)
RND 5: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, fasten off. (36 sts)
With appropriate color DMC sew eyes and cheeks to face. With a double strand of Dark
Brown DMC embroider an outline st around ea eye, giving them eyelashes if you wish.
Embroider a nose and mouth. With matching yarn type to the pillow, sew the face to the front of
pillow, centering.
