“The Ideal American Sporthorse is noble and
correctly built of a modern type (lighter and
more athletic with trainability). Our modern
sporthorse presently is more capable of
superior performance in the sports the AWS
supports. All AWS inspections and sports are
conducted in “OPEN” competition. In this way,
the actual qualities and performance can be
fairly evaluated rather than breed specific or
“Elite” bloodlines.
We offer a unique open studbook, allowing
a wide range of bloodlines that are eligible for
registration with the American Warmblood
Society to produce the ideal Sport horse type.
The AWS is a Member of:
U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF)
United States Dressage Federation (USDF)
United States Eventing Association (USEA)
Pending - World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH)

All AWS sport horses/ponies will be evaluated
on their own qualities and/or performance
records. Hot-bloods, cold-bloods, warmbloods
and all crosses are eligible, previously registered
or non-registered as long as the horse/pony
is breeding for, training for, or participating in
one of the disciplines that the AWS supports;
Dressage, Eventing, Hunter,
Show Jumping or Combined Driving.

The American Warmblood Society (AWS)
was founded in 1983 with the sole purpose
of promoting the American Warmblood
Sporthorse. The AWS supports our members/
breeders and their sporthorses through
monitoring with inspections and actual
performance results.The AWS assures the
selective development of the ideal sporthorses
by awarding and designating horses of better
qualities through inspections and through the
horses performance records. AWS horses are
active and successful in the sport from the
grass roots to Olympic level competition.
