SPECIAL AWS AWARDS
DRESSAGE HORSE OF THE YEAR (DHOY)
A minimum of (10) horses to qualify.
Usually AWS DHOY awards are separated by lower
and upper levels, depending on the number of entries.
AWS STALLION OF THE YEAR (SOY)
SOY may be determined by AWS inspection scores
or by performance scores. Min of 3 of REGISTERED
AWS offspring representing the said AWS stallion
with highest scores/level. Please note: offspring may
only qualify stallion for one year.
AWS MARE OF THE YEAR (MOY)
MOY may be determined by AWS inspection scores
or by performance scores. Min of 3 of REGISTERED
AWS offspring representing the said AWS mare with
highest scores/level. Please note: offspring may only
qualify mare for one year.
AWS BREEDER OF THE YEAR (BOY)
Breeder of said registered AWS stallion or mare
with min. of 3 registered AWS offspring. BOY may be
determined with inspection or performance scores/level.
Please note; offspring may only qualify breeder for one year.
AWS INSPECTION OF THE YEAR (IOY)
The Inspection must exhibit all categories of
EXCELLENCE: highly functional site, exceptional organizer,
successful number of participants, and good evaluations
from participants and inspector about the organizer, etc.
Please note there may not be one every year.
LOCAL SHOW &
COMPETITION AWARDS
Local awards are a membership benefit and available
to registered horses and AWS members.
The American Warmblood Society offers a AWS
Champion Ribbon to the top scoring horse of the
show at local USEF/USDF/USEA recognized shows. ALL
AWS Members may receive local AWS award ribbon
as a membership benefit. It is not required to be in the
national awards program or be a current AWS member.
One AWS Champion Ribbon will be awarded at the end
of the show/competition. View participating shows and

Requirements
A show organizer or responsible party may request in writing
a championship ribbon to be awarded at a specific show/
competition and be the contact/responsible party. Please email
or mail AWS a request in writing 60-90 days previous to the show.
Please provide the show name, date(s) city, state, with a contact
person’s name with email and phone number. It is requested that
the announcement be placed in the show program.These shows
will be listed on our website; americanwarmblood.org under
calendar of events or awards page.
Members are required to enclose copies of their AWS Membership
Card and AWS Horse registration certificate with the show/
competition entry form for the horse to be awarded.The member
is responsible to have these documents verified with show
management at the start of the show in order to be awarded.

AWS INSPECTION AWARDS
All AWS Local and Year End Inspection awards are
included with the entry fee for the AWS
inspection of an AWS registered horse.
Local Inspection Awards
Local awards are presented to AWS registered
horses at the end of the inspection. The Gold, Silver,
and Bronze local 1-1/2” medals are presented to the
top three scoring horses/ponies, regardless of age.
Ribbons are also presented according to the earned
AWS designations. which are: White Certified, Red
Preferred. Blue Preferred or Supreme ribbon. The
earned Red Preferred. Blue Preferred or Supreme
designation will also be stamped on the horse’s or
pony’s Certificate of Registration.
National Inspection Awards
The year-end AWS Inspection 2” medals are
determined using the Inspection scores for that
given year. The Year-End medals are Gold, Silver and
Bronze 2” medals and are presented to the top
three scoring registered/recorded horses/ponies
in each of the qualified divisions. First through fifth
award certificates are also awarded in all AWS award
divisions. A Special award is given to the highest
scoring “Inspection Horse of the Year”.
Dressage (USDF) All-Breeds
& AWS Awards
All USDF & AWS Dressage award scores are calculated
through the USDF. Horses and owners must have satisfied
the AWS National awards requirements and USDF AllBreeds awards requirements. They must be registered
with USDF and declare their horses/ponies breed as
AWS with USDF to qualify for both sets of USDF and
AWS awards in the divisions designated by AWS.
AWS National Eventing Awards
Gold, Silver and Bronze 2” medals are given to the
top three horses/ponies as well as the first through
fifth award certificates. A Special award is given to the
highest scoring “Eventing Horse of the Year” with a
minimum of (10) horses) to qualify.
AWS National Show Jumping
and Hunter Awards
The following awards are available through USDF and
AWS under the dressage divisions of Open, Materiale,
Freestyle,Vintage, Adult Amateur, Junior/Young Rider
and Dressage Sport Horse In-hand (DSHB).
Gold, Silver and Bronze 2” medals are given to the
top three horses/ponies in every AWS award division,
as well as the first through fifth award certificates. A
special award is given to the “Show Jumping Horse of
the Year” with a minimum of (10) horses) to qualify.
The USDF (Dressage) All-Breed Year-End
1st and 2nd place medals with certificates.
AWS National Dressage 1st-3rd Gold, Silver and Bronze
2” medals with certificates through 5th place.
AWS National Combined
Driving Awards
All requirements coincide with USDF requirements.
All divisions will be re-evaluated each year depending
upon the participation in each division.
Note: Check with the AWS, USDF All-breeds award.
The Gold, Silver and Bronze 2” medals are awarded to
the top scoring horses/ponies as well as first through
fifth award certificates in all AWS award divisions.
AWS NATIONAL SPORT AWARDS
All owners/riders of AWS registered or recorded
horses/ponies may enroll in the optional annual or
lifetime AWS National Awards program. To be eligible
for NATIONAL AWS awards, the owner must be a
current AWS member and the horses/ponies enrolled
in either the current annual or lifetime awards. An
annual or lifetime membership/award card will be
issued to the owner and will list the horse or pony in
the awards program and will qualify the horse for all
awards. Junior and/or non-owner rider membership is
required at a discounted membership fee.
AWS National Sport Awards are offered for the
USDF Year-End All-Breeds Awards, USEA Year-End
Eventing Awards, USEF Year-End Jumping Awards,
USEF Hunter Awards, and ADS recognized Year-End
Combined Driving Awards.
