You spoke, we listened.
We had an annual residents
meeting on January 20th at the
Conference Center. As a result of that
meeting there are several changes
that have been made or are in the
process. We want to share these
changes with you.
UPDATE YOUR UNIT
ELECTRIC GATES
Reports of problem trees are being
addressed. While we want to take care of
any problems, we also do not want to
obstruct nature and the environment.
For added security we are installing
electric bar code
readers to gates at
the Mobile Home
Park North and
South Gates, the
North Gate to the
Resort at Sea Scape
and in front of the Property Sales Office. To
access these areas you will need to add a bar
code decal to your vehicle. They are $15 for
registered vehicles only. Please See Denise in
the Lease Office for your decal. Completion
of the gates will be done at the end of May.
NO MORE 10% FEE
Effective immediately there will no
longer be a 10% fee for maintenance done
to and around your home. All vendors who
work on property will be required to obtain
a Vendor Pass. An annual fee of $300 for
contractors and $25 for other vendors will
be paid by vendors and no additional 10%
fee will be charged. All vendors will still be
required to have liability and workman’s
comp insurance.
Camper trailers that have been
inspected and are in good condition may
add vinyl siding to their unit in order to give
the unit an updated look.

EXTRA PARKING
Over the 4th of July holiday we will
allow parking on vacant annual sites for
extra parking space. The cost will be $3 per
car and up to 4 cars per site. Please see
Denise at the Annual Lease Office.
COMMERCIAL PARKING
To ease on-site parking, all commercial
vehicles will need to park in the overflow
parking area from April 1 - November 1.

Our theme at Lakewood Camping
Resort has always been to “Be Nature’s
Guest”. It is in that theme that we would
like to add to the public and garden areas of
the property. We are looking for garden and
horticultural enthusiasts to help us with the
landscaping and flower planting throughout
the year. We will provide the plants, you
help with the design, planting and upkeep.
We also want to encourage residents to
add that extra touch to your own home and
garden. Thank you to all those who have
made this spring look extra colorful!

Quarterly Social
The next social for residents will be a “Tacky
Tourist Party” on Tuesday, June 5th at 6:00
pm in the Conference Center. Come dressed
in your best tacky outfit. Claude is cooking
southern fried chicken. Bring a summer side
dish to share. We will have a prize for the
best fruit or vegetable side and best outfit.

Beachwood Clubhouse by June 1st.
Family Value Fun Pass
Wristbands for 2012 are $5 per campsite per
day from April 1 - Sept. 30. Each Resident
should have received 7 bands to use for the
year included in your administrative fee. If
you have not, you may pick them up from
Denise in the Annual Lease Office.
Beachwood residents pick up their bands at
the office from Cindy. An additional 7 bands
may be purchased for $100.
Spring Bike Rally
Bikers will be welcome on property starting
May 10th - 20th. Vendors will be open at the
Conference Center during that time from
8:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Memorial Day Weekend
Friday, May 25th - Monday, May 28th we
will honor those who have served our
country. Memorial Celebration nightly on
Lake Perry. Welcome Party at 8:00 pm on
Saturday, May 26th. Hayride & Beach Party
at 7:00 pm on Sunday, May 27th. More
contests and activities to celebrate the
“School’s Out Scream and Shout” Weekend.

A Tribute to Mrs. Marion Perry
My first husband and I met Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Perry in 1974, along with Peggy
and Jimmy Morse at Lakewood. After that
we would come camping in the summer
when my husband got his vacation.
Mrs. Marion was truly a Christian
and Southern Lady. Every Thursday she
would go to K&W and get pies for covered
dish and on several occasions she would
help clean up in the kitchen. She was not
afraid of work.
In 1989 my second husband Mr.
Coderre and I bought a permanent place
on 4200 block and would come October
through April. Marion thought Roland
was tops and asked me where did I find
that real nice man.
Mrs. Marion and I became good
friends and she invited me to visit her
anytime.
When I did, Flora the
housekeeper would always bring a tray
with a tea pot of hot tea and cups and
saucers. We had lots of talks and a really
good relationship.
She organized the adult swim at the
Indoor and Outdoor Pools. She told my
neighbor Betty McGrath if she ever had
any trouble at the Adult Swim to call her.
One day a woman was in the pool with a
daughter and the Life Guard told her the
child shouldn’t be in the pool, but she
refused to take her out. Betty called Mrs.
Perry and she came down immediately and
told the woman “when you do get out of
the pool go to your camper, pack up, go to
the front office and get a refund. If you
can’t follow the rules, don’t come back
here.” She had a lot of compassion for
seniors and widows.
I was visiting my daughter’s church in
Georgia and a Missionary was there and
he sang “Beulah Land”. That was my
favorite and Mrs. Marion’s.

The Missionary told me he
was coming to a church on 544. I asked
him if he would sing “Beulah Land”. I
told Mrs. Marion and she said “Oh,
Sylvia, I’ve wanted to go to that little
church for years and never got the chance
to go. May I go with you?” I said, “Sure,
I’ll pick you up Sunday morning”. We
went but the Missionary had forgotten the
music to “Beulah Land” so he sang “His
Eye Is On The Sparrow”, and that was
another of Mrs. Marion‘s favorites. They
were having lunch and insisted that we
stay, so we did and one of the desserts was
a cookie on a stick. When I went to get my
dessert, I asked Marion what she wanted.
She had a mischievous grin and said
“cookie on a stick”. I am so glad we had
such a wonderful day, as a few months later
she became critically ill and passed away.
I love living at Lakewood and don’t
want to live anywhere else. My prayer is
that I can live here ‘til the Lord calls me
home.
Note: When you get older you think of the
good memories of the past. When my 4 children
were younger and we would go in the car, as soon
as the car started moving they would start singing
Perry Como’s “That’s Amore”. Now, when I hear
it. I think of that and have to smile.

Ron and Carol Fisher
Have you ever seen someone walk into
a room and they make you smile or laugh?
Have you ever known someone who made
you feel loved and important? Have you
ever had a friend that was always there
if you ever needed help? Well, if you
know Ron and Carol Fisher, you know
this couple embodies these three traits.
High school sweethearts and prom
dates, Carol and Ron Fisher celebrated 46
years of marriage, and adventure, on April
23rd. Originally from Findlay, Ohio, the
Fishers have had a life of family, hard work,
fun and most of all love. They have three
children: Rhonda and husband Todd, and
Ron Jr. and wife Angel who still live in Ohio
and Becky and husband Brian who live here
in Myrtle Beach, and 4 grandsons: Wyatt,
Tyler, Jared and Luke.
A patriotic family, Ron proudly served
his country in the US Air Force, as has his
son who served two tours in Iraq and is still
in the reserves. Although Ron has had had
several jobs in his lifetime, he retired after 20
years as a City Transit Bus Driver in
Dayton, Ohio in January 2009.
Carol
worked for many years in the medical field
and in nursing homes which can be seen in
her attention to detail and compassion.
Avid travelers, they have been to
Hawaii, Okinawa, California, Arizona,
Wisconsin, and taken three cruises to the
Bahamas in the Caribbean and Mexico.
After 12 years vacationing in North Myrtle
Beach hotels, they drove by and saw the
scripture on our marquee. “Anywhere with
a scripture out front is where we needed to
be” says Carol. “It’s where God had a
purpose for us.”
That purpose no doubt has been to
serve, work and be friends to so many. The
family atmosphere is one of their favorite
things about Lakewood, along with
the friendly atmosphere
and of course the
beach.
Ron loves to play
putt putt and is even
playing in a tournament
soon. He also loves fishing
and bowling. He is a great
volunteer, always willing to
help out, driving a tractor
pulling a hay ride or even
donning a Bunny Suit.

working at the Trading
Post, Carol can be found
sitting in her swing reading on her Kindle (a
Christmas gift from Ron) or spending time
with her beloved dog Romeo.
They love their family, but what is a joy
to others to see is their love for the Lord and
each other. Carol has sung in church for
years and they have volunteered with a
Prison Ministry in Ohio for over 8 years.
Twice a year they go to Lebanon, Ohio to
the Maximum Security Prison where she
prepares food ahead of time with a team
and then the men go in for 4 days during
the day to minister. Their most recent
mission trip in March saw 42 men make first
time decisions to accept the lord. Why a
prison ministry? God told him to do it and it
gets better each time.
Ron says that Carol is a great wife,
cook and housekeeper...she put up with him
for 46 years. He says marriage is not 50-50,
but 95-5! You have to be in it together.
Carol says about Ron that “Endurance lasts
for a moment, but Joy comes in the
morning.” Her favorite things about him
are his love for his family, his willingness to
be her helpmate (he even helps clean and
vacuum) and his ability to be grateful for the
little things. She can give him a bologna
sandwich for dinner and he will say “it’s
delicious, honey”. One christmas when
they were dirt poor, he wanted a tool box.
When he got it, he cried. He does that,
especially over happy endings. He is
very sentimental, and she loves him for
it.
So, if you need a hand, or a hug, or
someone to laugh with or cry
with.....or need a friend, a real
friend, call Ron and Carol. They
understand life, its toils, its tears
and its joys.
Easter Bunny Ron

Traveling Quilters was born when Janet
Lozier took a quilting class from Martha
Tonges while living in Connecticut. Upon
later moving to Beachwood at the Heritage
in Myrtle Beach in 2004, she started making
quilts on her own for the homeless and
babies, sending them to Alabama where
there was such a tremendous need. In 2007
she expanded her efforts and was joined by
Nina Newbery, a new resident at Beachwood,
and got involved with unwed mothers and
their siblings, NICU (newborn intensive care
unit) and tornado survivors.
From there the need became so great
here in Myrtle Beach, that Donna Peck and
Margaret Giacin joined forces to assist in the
making of baby and kid blankets for the
Trinity Episcopal Church in their Unwed
mothers/less fortunate ministries as well as
their Little Lambs program (little kids) and
their Homeless Program. As time went by
and the needs increased even more, Rachel
McCollor, Terry Ibbetson, Claudia Kraft,
Brenda Swartz, Pat Haaf and Faith Lozier
joined The Traveling Quilters and assisted
in help making kids, lap, passage and
homeless blankets for our local churches as
well as Solid Rock Baptist Church, Amedists
Hospice Services and The Shriner’s Hospital
(Roadrunners Chapter).
Since the needs have steadily increased
all over the country, today we are further
joined by the ladies from Journey Church of
Surfside who help on Monday’s making
blankets for homeless both here and abroad.
All left over pieces of material are
recycled and sent up to Martha Tonges (in
Connecticut) who puts them together in the
form of beautiful “scrap quilts” and sends
them back to Myrtle Beach for completion.
As you can see, this is a group effort by
all its participants and all their help and
efforts are greatly appreciated. Because all of
our quilters are volunteers, any donations of
fabric (cotton preferred), sheets, thin
blankets, bedspreads or mattress pads, etc. is
appreciated and will be put to good use. You
can call either Janet Lozier (213-3031) or
Nina Newberry (712-1321) for pickup of any
donations
Keeping Fit
There are several opportunities to keep
fit here at Lakewood. In the winter months,
we have an aerobics class led my Meri Beth
Brown at 11:00 am, three days a week in the
Information Center. Each weekday at 8:45
am we have water aerobics in the Indoor
pool year round. Then there is always a great
walk on the beach.

Let us interest you in Beachwood at The Heritage. This is an adult

proceeded to tell the gospel and did not miss a beat. She even
rolled over on the sand!! As you know she is picky on where she
