Try a whole new approach to painting with bright colors! Explore
many ways to creatively use primary colors. Using the basics, we’ll
create simple, colorful, big, bright paintings.
The sky is the limit on this design! With the help of many beautiful pieces of glass you will truly brighten up your garden with this
concrete stepping stone. Project will be dry and ready to pick
up in one week.
Learn some fun art forms from Mexico and Central America!
We will make maracas using found objects, design a Mexican
punched-tin panel, and craft Guatemalan worry dolls with
colorful textiles.
Create your own art pizza masterpiece with each slice of pie being
its own work of art. Multi-media will be used in this class so you
can experience many different mediums in one work of art.
We will make pretty, playful fairy houses using household recyclables
and craft items. We will learn decoupage techniques as we
construct these tiny abodes. Then we’ll fill our houses with little
fairies crafted from pipe cleaners, beads, silk flowers, and ribbon!
Have you ever wanted to make one of those brilliant meltedcrayon-on-canvas works of art? Using hot glue and a hairdryer,
we’ll create a unique conversation piece for your wall.
Using foam print plates we’ll draw animals, adding line patterns to
emphasize our designs. Choose your own animals and draw in your
own style, then print your images in different colored inks on
a variety of papers. Class is limited 10 students. Sign up early!
Add a pop of color to any room! Create your own design on the
surface of a vase with low-temp clay that is a whole lot of fun
to work with.
Cartoon animals and people or abstract design can be drawn and
painted with fabric paints on a T-shirt of your color choice. Using
brushes and tubes of paint, make the T-shirt a one-of-a-kind creation
to wear. Fashion your way. You must bring your own T-shirt.
Learn to make colorful drawings of animals using colored pencil,
markers, and watercolor paint! We will begin by drawing an animal
of your choice, using shape and line to make a simple silhouette.
Then we will fill the animal shape with patterns and finally use lots
of color to fill it in.

H’Art of Photography
You will find the heart and art of photography in two very full
sessions! Learn how to focus in on abstracts, people, and nature.
Capture lighting with shadows, sunlight, and flash. Color, black
and white, inside and outside.
Bring from home: a digital camera you are familiar with, nothing
too fancy! Let the office know 1 week in advance if you need
to borrow a camera. Limited to 8 students.

Clay: Pinch Pot Monster Spoon Rest
Thursday, June 18
Using metal clay, create beautiful bronze charms that can be used
for necklaces, key chains, backpack charms, or anything you can
think of. Each piece is fired in a kiln by the instructor. Students will
be called when the pieces are ready and can be picked up in the
WBCA office.
The sky is the limit on this design! With the help of many beautiful pieces of glass you will truly brighten up your garden with this
concrete stepping stone. Project will be dry and ready to pick
up in one week.
Inspired by the art techniques of Eric Carle, we will have fun making
a variety of colorful, painted papers with many different techniques
(dripping, scraping, printing, texture rubbing, etc.). Then, using an
assortment of papers, we will make colorful collages inspired by this
unique artist. Leave with a stack of your own painted paper and
collage illustrations!
Have fun making colorful portraits of yourself or others in paper
collage, wire, and multi-media drawing. We’ll make three different
pieces modeled after the work of master artists Henri Matisse and
Alexander Calder, as well as a colorful drawing of yourself as a Lego
figure! We’ll have fun creating portraits based on expressionism
(how we feel) rather than strict realism.
Join the fun of this action-packed medley of reading, writing, and
exciting word games! Discover the wonders of the well-written word
by exploring published works. Experiment with story essentials such
as character, setting, conflict, and plot development, while inventing
stories of your very own. By the end of class each writer will have
a collection of short stories, or a rough draft of a chapter book.
Bring a notebook, iPad, or laptop and come to class ready to write,
write, write!
Explore clay by smooshing, poking, and modeling it into a cute
(or frightening!) monster dish. We’ll paint on colorful details with
underglaze. Fired projects will be ready to pick up in approximately
two weeks.

We walk by an entire world of unseen plants and insects every day.
Bring these secret worlds to life with this class using different mediums
and techniques for a truly unique perspective form of artwork.
Weaving is a textile art found in many cultures. We will re-purpose
burlap coffee bean bags into wall-hangings with color, pattern, and
texture. We will use fabric strips, feathers, beads, and colorful yarn
as we embellish the printed designs on each bag.
Four smaller paintings combined together to make one big painting
is a new and creative way to express yourself. Using different
mediums you’ll be amazed at what you can create!
Using twigs, shells, beads, sea glass, feathers, metal findings, and
wire, we will make beautiful mobiles which can be displayed all
year. We’ll explore the mechanics of balance and the joy of mixing
materials as we craft these natural creations!
You can add your personal touches to this trendy and durable
backpack. Begin designing your bag by selecting an eye-popping
fabric, adding colorful duct tape, and finishing with a drawstring
cord. People will want to know about your awesome bag!
With birds as our subject matter, we will explore many art mediums.
From painted paper collage in the style of Lois Ehlert, to pen and ink
illustration, to chalk pastel drawings of tropical birds, we will make
several beautiful bird pictures which will be ready for hanging!
Explore the colorful options duct tape has to offer. We’ll learn
to make several pieces of jewelry from duct tape including a ring,
necklace, and bracelet.
Explore a bit of African culture while making drums, beaded figures,
and embossed metal masks. Using recyclables, paper, glue, and a
variety of textiles, students will practice sculpting and construction
techniques while learning about traditions in some African cultures!

We’ll make a colorful, detailed light switch plate that you can use
instead of the boring white one. According to Polymer Clay Central,
“you’ll be surprised how something so small can totally change the
look of a room and capture so many compliments.”
Please Note: if students want to replace an existing light switch

then use jewelry tools to create small metal rings. As you link the
rings together you can add beads and charms provided in class
or bring some from home for a personalized look.
Learn about the art of Zentangles, designing abstract patterns
within a grid. Similar to doodling but even more fun! We will
stretch our creativity while creating beautiful drawings with lots
of free-flowing line and shape patterns.
Learn two Japanese art forms which use paper to create intricate
designs. Working in both 2D and 3D we will create remarkable
artworks which explore paper folding and cutting techniques.
Read a story, write a story! Experience the excitement of tall tales
and silly stories through sight-word games and fill-in-the-blank
fun! With loads of group action, plus individualized attention from
an experienced author and teacher, this is an action-packed class
full of story-telling, reading, writing, singing, drawing, word games,
and more.

Bottle Dolls
Wednesday, July 15
Alexander Calder Wire Circus
Wednesday, July 15
Wood Animalitos
Wednesday, July 15
Dolls are made in many cultures as playthings, but they are also
a great way to explore figures in art! We’ll make dolls using found
objects and craft supplies, taking our inspirations from South
African Ndebele dolls, Japanese Kokeshi Dolls, and more!
Alexander Calder brought his characters to life using wire and
household materials. We’ll use the same to create a fabulous circus
complete with clowns, high wire, trapeze, and a ringmaster.
In some parts of Mexico, artisans create wooden carvings of animals
which they paint with bright colors and patterns. We will work with
lots of wood scraps and pre-cut shapes to make our own animal
sculptures which we will paint and decorate.

Beginning Painting With Picasso
Picasso’s Cubist faces in profile and views of the front like his
painting “Dora Maar au Chat” are what we do. The eyes may be different sizes and shapes but it all comes together in PIGASSO.
He is a pig who lives a life like Picasso in the book When Pigasso
Met Mootisse. Line and intensity of color with all those crazy shapes
make us laugh as we create. Maybe we will do some portraits
of someone we know.

Wednesday, July 22
If you like your art big, then this is the class is for you! Create your
own giant fish and decorate it for a fun, up-sized piece of art.
Learn to paint Chinese characters and nature scenes with a bamboo
brush! We will begin a practice of brush painting by learning the
basic brush strokes, practicing some Chinese characters, and
painting simple nature still lifes.
Pick your favorite colors and patterns of duct tape to create your
fabulous one-of-a-kind bag. We’ll weave together strips of tape,
add straps, then finish with a nifty magnet closure. Everyone will
be surprised that your bag is made entirely of duct tape!
Draw away those long summer days. This class is designed to get
your imagination going! Doodling is a great way to practice your
drawing skills and get your creative energy out of your head and
on to the paper.
Fish printing was first done as a way to document the size of a prize
catch in Japan. Today it is a beautiful art form, showing the intricate
texture and detail found in nature. We will use rubber-cast fish
forms to print on a variety of textiles and paper. Class is limited
to 10 students. Sign up early!
Explore the colorful options duct tape has to offer. We will make
a cool bead bracelet, earrings, and a pendant necklace.
Using metal clay, create beautiful bronze charms that can be used
for necklaces, key chains, backpack charms, or anything you can
think of. Each piece is fired in a kiln by the instructor. Students will
be called when the pieces are ready and can be picked up in the
WBCA office.
Learn to paint landscapes in a clean, colorful style. We will play
with shape, color, line, and pattern while painting mountains,
hills, and seascapes in a simple folk-art style modeled after some
contemporary artists.
Follow along step-by-step as you create your own botanicalinspired drawing on wood using thick and thin-tipped markers and
lots of whimsical line patterns. We’ll add color with a transparent
collage technique to make these artworks really pop!
