Dear Parents, Alumni and Friends of Bishop O’Connell High School, Good evening and thank you all for coming to the 12th Annual Gala and Auction. This evening is a time of celebration for the accomplishments of our students and faculty, and also an opportunity for the community to support the school’s exciting initiatives. Mardi Gras represents a time of parties and celebration. How fitting that tonight we celebrate the past and the future of Bishop O’Connell with a wonderful party! Through the support of this flagship fundraising event, Bishop O’Connell is able to provide an outstanding education to our students, while enhancing our technology programs, ensuring competitive salaries for our exceptional faculty, and investing in curricular materials to sustain our excellent academic programs. Please remember that everything we do for our school, whether fresh paint on classroom walls or new desks for teachers and students, plays a role in fulfilling our desire to provide the best learning environment possible. Please bid high and often and join in the excitement. We give special thanks to all our Gala participants, supporters, and volunteers. Your tireless support and generous efforts have made this evening possible. On behalf of the Bishop O’Connell community, I express our deepest gratitude to the coordinators of tonight’s event, Julie Gazala and Staci Meruvia. We thank them for the countless hours they spent dedicated to ensuring the success of this Gala. Their commitment and devotion to our school serves as an example to us all. Great things happen every day on Little Falls Road. Guided by our mission to provide an education rooted in the life of Christ, our school is the best possible place for young men and women to grow and develop into caring, responsible, global citizens. Thank you for celebrating with us tonight! Sincerely, Kathleen Ryan Prebble 4 Message from the Principal February 9, 2013 Dear Friends of Bishop O’Connell High School, I am happy you could be here with us at the Gala this year. Each year, we are humbled by the generous spirit that permeates this evening. The vision of Bishop O’Connell’s next fifty years as a superior college-preparatory Catholic school begins to crystallize in the wonderful support you provide this evening and throughout the year. As Principal, I spend a great deal of time observing what is going on in our classrooms and we are very proud of the exceptionally talented faculty we have, their commitment to ongoing professional development, and the strides we have been able to make in recent years to ensure that together our teachers and students are able to reach beyond the walls of the traditional classroom to enrich the learning experience. We intend to continue to leverage technology and the best instructional practices to actively engage students and your enduring support helps make that possible. Thank you! Enjoy the evening. Sincerely, Joseph E. Vorbach III Principal 5 Online File Transfer! Send files directly through our website. We are delighted to have you all here to celebrate and support our 12th Annual Gala and Auction. The definition of the word celebrate is “to observe (a day or event) with ceremonies of respect, festivity, or rejoicing.” Our school community not only celebrates here tonight, but we see this celebration every day in the life of our school: As a school, we teach and celebrate respect. As a school, we host a multitude of festivities throughout the year such as Homecoming, Superdance and Prom, to name a few. As a school, we rejoice! We rejoice in our faith and we rejoice in each other. As Gala chairs, we’ve witness this kind of celebration every time we come to school. Seeing this community of respectful, joyful and caring students is exactly why we returned to chair this wonderful event for a second year in a row! We also celebrate the wonderful volunteers, faculty and staff who have worked side-by-side with us over the last two years., and we are blessed to have made so many friends in this process. Most of all, we are once again overwhelmed by the generosity of time, talent and gifts that the O’Connell community shares to make the Gala a success. Thank you for contributing to the amazing experience that came with chairing our school’s flagship fundraising event. We hope you enjoy the evening. Celebrate and let the good times roll! If there is more than one item in a section you would like to bid on, you can easily do so. No need to recruit unreliable spouses to help you “hover” over bid sheets! How a Rolling Closing Works As in the past, the Silent Auction will be divided into different sections. At 7:15 p.m, the first section will begin closing. Watch and listen for the Red Apple Auctioneer, as she will be “The Closer.” Each item in a section will officially close when the Red Apple Auctioneer walks by and physically touches the bid sheet. (The bid sheet will then be picked up.) This means that even if you haven’t had a chance to see every item in the section that is closing, you can still take a look and place bids – as long as you are in front of the Auctioneer as she closes out the section. Items will close in numerical order with item #101 closing first, followed by item #102 , then #103, and so on. Silent Auction Closing Begins at 7:15 p.m. Sections Close in the following order: 1st: Knights’ Regalia (100s) 2nd: Knights of the Round Table 3rd: Athletic Knight 4th: Knight School (300s) (400s) 5th: Blue Knight Special 6th: Knights’ Spirit (600s) 7th: Super Silent Knight 37 (500s) (700s) (200s) V A V R A S R I S T I Y T Y F O F O O T O B T A B L A L L L R O R C O K C S K S CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS!
