Bike Committee Report
The bike season is winding down yet the weather is nice
for riding so get some riding in while the getting is good.
Indian Head was cancelled last minute as the weather
report was for temperatures in the high 90’s which is too
hot to be fun.
Chincoteague is closed out. There are 20-plus attending
Chincoteague this year.
Below is a tentative ride schedule, for upcoming rides
&related activities:
October already and the Board and I are so busy
traveling we couldn’t squeeze in a time for us to get
together for a Board Meeting! Many of these scheduling
conflicts are due to having met people in Club
Crabtowne and are now busy playing together.
As an example, my wife, Chris, and I met Judy Taylor at
a Crabtowne event last year. After finding we have
similar likes we’ve become better friends and have
attended more events together. Just yesterday, Judy
invited us to sail on a boat participating in the Hospice
Cup Regatta. Through her we’ve met several other
really neat people that share our love of sailing. This is
a wonderful thing! But you have to get involved with
club activities in order to meet people and expand your
horizons. Sitting on the couch at home will not cut it…
Speaking of Activities, Barb Hagelgans held an
Activities Committee meeting and they have some neat
stuff planned for us later. From Zip-lining to trips to the
Mistletoe Mingle Party. Keep a sharp lookout in this
newsletter and our Meetup site for details.
October 7-9 (ride Saturday the 8th) Chincoteague
Bike/Beach/Bird Watch/Shop
October 15 (Saturday) Blackwater Wildlife bike ride
October 16 (Sunday) [‘out of bounds’] Bike AAA rides
at Kinder Farm Park
November 5 (Saturday) Kent Island South trail bike ride
Note the Kinder Farm Park ride listed for October 16 is
not run by Club Crabtowne. The Kinder Farm Park ride
is an event run by the local Bike Annapolis Anne
Arundel County or Bike AA for short. I have more
details if you think you would be interested in this local
riding event.
Remember you must wear a helmet to protect your
precious head. Please contact me with your ideas for
bike rides and if you want to lead a ride or participate.
Being a ride leader is not difficult and with more leaders
and assistant ride leaders we can have more enjoyable
rides. The focus of the club rides are relatively short
rides with a casual pace so we bike and smell the roses.
One of the fun things I get to do, a few times a year, is
help an old friend deliver sailboats to various locations.
For my first time, I got to travel the Erie Canal aboard a
51.5-foot Passport sailboat from Buffalo, NY to Jersey
City, NJ. In order to go through the low bridges and
locks we had to un-step the mast and ship it by truck.
The photo is of me one happy day along the way.
I may reserve rooms for Cape May next year. If so I’m
looking at reserving rooms in May, 2017 – quite
possibly the weekend before Memorial Day weekend in
order to lower the cost & avoid the crowds by going
when the kids are in school. Ditto for Chincoteague
This fall we have hiking, biking and much more for you
to get involved in. We still have room for one more

Ski Committee Report
2016 Full Moon Cruise Schedule:
October 14 - Friday
The Blue Ridge Ski Council is going west to
Breckenridge, Colorado from February 4th through 11th,
2017. Jay is going to lead the Club Crabtowne bunch
again this year. Club Crabtowne has not been there for
many years. I am planning on going, and several others I
talked to want to go too. Besides several mountains to
ski on, there is a town with lots of shops for your ski day
off and many other activities like snowmobiling and dog
sledding. Jay filled the first batch of condos, and other
people have expressed interest in going for the
remainder of the rooms. They have not paid their deposit
yet, so the rooms are still available for you! It includes
air, ground transportation, lodging, lift ticket, a race day
with the Blue Ridge Ski Council, and several parties and
dinners are included. It’s $1,860 PP. You do not have to
pay for all of it at once; he has an easy payment plan.
Light House Shelter Donations
Bruce and Barb are going to be collecting for the
Lighthouse Shelter of Annapolis, and Bruce will be
dropping these off at the Shelter. Please bring your
donations to the general meeting. He will also take
names of members that donate so they can possibly get a
tax break.
New or used bikes are needed to help our residents get to
and from work. If you are going to bring these, please
contact Bruce and let him know.
New mothers at the Light House are in need of new or
used strollers with removable baby carriers.
They can always use bottled water, milk, caffeinated
coffee and individual snack-sized bags of chips, pretzels,
etc. to distribute to shelter residents and lunch-time
clients.
I plan to bring back Ski on Wednesdays in 2017 but
have not looked at the calendar yet. I enjoy going to the
local ski resorts to tune up the mind and the body, so I
will be ready right out of the blocks when I get to the big
western resort.
