MINISTERS' WELCOME
WELCOME MESSAGE FROM DR KIM HAMES MLA, MINISTER
FOR TOURISM AND HON TERRY REDMAN MLA, MINISTER FOR
REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Welcome to Western Australia’s Peel region for the 2016 Channel Seven
Mandurah Crab Fest presented by LiveLighter.
Mayor’s Welcome
We welcome you to the Channel Seven
Mandurah Crab Fest, presented by
LiveLighter.
The City of Mandurah’s signature event
is now in its 18th year and has become
Western Australia’s largest regional, free
festival, with more than 100,000 people
attending across the weekend.
Thousands of local, national and
international visitors make their way to
the heart of Mandurah for this two-day
festival to enjoy fabulous food, great
wine, amazing entertainment for all the
family and spectacular fireworks over
Mandjar Bay.
The food and dining element of Crab
Fest has grown, and now includes a
Long Table Lunch, local produce tastings
and demonstrations and a barista
competition. A number of new ticketed
food experiences have been introduced
for 2016, including a Progressive Dinner
Cruise and a High Tea under the iconic
Moreton Bay Fig Tree.
Now in its 18th year, the festival has blossomed into the state’s biggest regional event
in terms of attendance.
Thousands of locals and visitors will experience a packed program of special events
for all ages, set against the beautiful backdrop of Mandurah’s vibrant foreshore, arts
and cultural precincts and picturesque Peel-Harvey Estuary.
I’m extremely proud of the festival and
its outstanding growth over the years.

TEMPTING...
Crab Fest is proudly supported by the State Government through Tourism Western
Australia’s Regional Events Program, made possible by Royalties for Regions.
Royalties for Regions invests in a variety of initiatives to help grow Western Australia’s
regional areas into thriving communities with strong economies.
Tourism is a vital industry for regional Western Australia. In the 12 months to
September 2015, visitors spent $8.9 billion in the state. Of this, $4 billion was spent
in regional WA. The State Government’s goal is to see the contribution of regional
tourism increase to $4.75 billion by 2020.
Regional events are vital to achieving this goal because they bring significant economic,
social and cultural benefits to communities, while attracting visitors and valuable
media exposure – ensuring regional towns and cities, such as Mandurah, are exciting
places to visit and great places to live.
The magnificent seafood and other produce on offer this weekend is also supported
by the State Government’s Taste 2020 food and wine strategy, which aims to establish
Western Australia as one of the world’s foremost culinary tourism destinations.
Our thanks to the event organisers and volunteers, and we wish locals and visitors a
wonderful weekend here in Mandurah and the surrounding region.
If you are a seafood fan then you definitely
won’t get crabby at the festival! There’s 45
seafood dishes (33 featuring crab) on offer!

Once again we are delighted to use Emma
Blyth’s beautiful artwork to promote the festival.
Emma’s work is synonymous with Crab Fest and
her unique style and vibrancy reflect the festival
and the city’s lifestyle.

En Plein Air Art
Competition
Mandurah is home to a
number of very talented
artists and Crab Fest
provides an amazing
backdrop of inspiration.
As you wander around the
festival you will be able to
watch our En Plein Air artists
as they capture the scene
on canvas in this annual
competition.
"Crab Fest continues to grow each year and
I am very proud to be involved. My Crab Fest
artwork illustrates Mandurah’s lifestyle and
celebrates all the activities on and around our
beautiful waterways, including music, art, water
activities, markets and, of course, fresh seafood
and our famous blue manna crab.”
Emma auctions the original Crab Fest artwork
and donates all proceeds to charity, which so
far has raised over $12,000.

This piece was sold last year but don’t worry,
you can purchase your very own piece of
Emma’s art at her marquee on the Eastern
Foreshore.
Can’t wait until then? Check out her online store
at emmablyth.com.au, her Facebook page
facebook.com/EmmaBlythArtist or pop into
her gallery located at 9 Smart Street Mall in
Mandurah.
Mandjar Art Award Exhibition
Pop into Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and visit the Mandurah
and Peel region’s signature art exhibition. When you are in there,
check out the other shows, performances and exhibitions hosted by
Mandurah’s cultural centre.
Eco-Beach Community Art
Mandurah boasts 72km of beautiful coastline and
we want to keep it this way. Schools, families
and community groups have been
busy collecting plastic rubbish from our
beaches and waterways and have created
a beautiful piece of art which will feature
on the children’s stage over the weekend.
Sandcastle Sculpture
A far cry from the bucket mould and
plastic spade sand creation…
FREE Sand
Sculpture
Workshops!
Head to the Mandurah Ocean
Marina to witness Mandurah’s biggest
EVER sand sculpture – over 12 tonnes of sand and
five days of creative sculpting go in to this unique
artwork. So what’s it going to be? You will have to see
it for yourself at the festival!
FACT: An estimated 20 million tonnes of plastic enters
the ocean each year. If you visit one of our beautiful
beaches, please leave only footprints behind!
