MARCH ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT Published March 12-13, 2016 Proudly presented by @cityofmandurah CRABFEST16 CRABFEST.COM.AU 2016 19 - 20 2 2016 3 2016 MINISTERS' WELCOME WELCOME MESSAGE FROM DR KIM HAMES MLA, MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND HON TERRY REDMAN MLA, MINISTER FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Welcome to Western Australia’s Peel region for the 2016 Channel Seven Mandurah Crab Fest presented by LiveLighter. Mayor’s Welcome We welcome you to the Channel Seven Mandurah Crab Fest, presented by LiveLighter. The City of Mandurah’s signature event is now in its 18th year and has become Western Australia’s largest regional, free festival, with more than 100,000 people attending across the weekend. Thousands of local, national and international visitors make their way to the heart of Mandurah for this two-day festival to enjoy fabulous food, great wine, amazing entertainment for all the family and spectacular fireworks over Mandjar Bay. The food and dining element of Crab Fest has grown, and now includes a Long Table Lunch, local produce tastings and demonstrations and a barista competition. A number of new ticketed food experiences have been introduced for 2016, including a Progressive Dinner Cruise and a High Tea under the iconic Moreton Bay Fig Tree. Now in its 18th year, the festival has blossomed into the state’s biggest regional event in terms of attendance. Thousands of locals and visitors will experience a packed program of special events for all ages, set against the beautiful backdrop of Mandurah’s vibrant foreshore, arts and cultural precincts and picturesque Peel-Harvey Estuary. I’m extremely proud of the festival and its outstanding growth over the years. Crab TACOs TEMPTING... Crab Fest is proudly supported by the State Government through Tourism Western Australia’s Regional Events Program, made possible by Royalties for Regions. Royalties for Regions invests in a variety of initiatives to help grow Western Australia’s regional areas into thriving communities with strong economies. Tourism is a vital industry for regional Western Australia. In the 12 months to September 2015, visitors spent $8.9 billion in the state. Of this, $4 billion was spent in regional WA. The State Government’s goal is to see the contribution of regional tourism increase to $4.75 billion by 2020. Regional events are vital to achieving this goal because they bring significant economic, social and cultural benefits to communities, while attracting visitors and valuable media exposure – ensuring regional towns and cities, such as Mandurah, are exciting places to visit and great places to live. The magnificent seafood and other produce on offer this weekend is also supported by the State Government’s Taste 2020 food and wine strategy, which aims to establish Western Australia as one of the world’s foremost culinary tourism destinations. Our thanks to the event organisers and volunteers, and we wish locals and visitors a wonderful weekend here in Mandurah and the surrounding region. If you are a seafood fan then you definitely won’t get crabby at the festival! There’s 45 seafood dishes (33 featuring crab) on offer!
