Bingo raves are Bingo gaming parties that include nightclub-style music and dancing and have become popular with younger audiences. Jonny Lacey, 30, from Belfast, has been flooded with offers to host the popular parties in venues from Australia to Mexico—and now plans to bring his famous Bingo nights to his home city. Bongo’s Bingo has changed the face of the popular pastime: Players can win prizes including convertibles, holidays to the Caribbean and speed boats. And it all happens while dancing to ’90s pop music while Lacey calls out the next Bingo number. The event was launched in Liverpool by Lacey and business partner Josh Burke. The shows quickly became a sell-out and the pair invested in bigger prizes and venues, and invited celebrity guests including David Hasselhoff and the Vengaboys to host. A Bingo Attacker An armed security guard working at Buckeye Bingo in Waco, Texas, fought off a would-be attacker, then shot and killed him in the parking lot of the business, the Waco police reported. The security officer was reportedly shot in the hand during the altercation with a masked man. The man reportedly approached the guard from behind and tried to put his arm around him while reaching for the security guard’s gun. During the alleged struggle for the handgun, the security guard was able to discharge his firearm, and the suspect was injured. I found that on page 30 there was posted a picture of a lady who was the winner of $3,750 at a casino power Bingo event. Then, on page 33 there is posted a picture of the same lady but with a different name and described as the winner of $500 for the See you soon and here’s to more great bingo, Travel to Bingo In the Las Vegas Area Bob $500,000 POWER BINGO IS COMING UP You can start the holiday season by attending Boyd Gaming’s next $500,000 Power Bingo on Monday, November 28th and Tuesday, November 29th. RNC Bingo Game While Stephen Colbert was broadcasting from the Republican National Convention, he added a game for viewers at home to play along with during coverage. The Late Show Twitter account posted a link to Republican National Convention Bingo which featured a Bingo card with squares that referenced something that you could possibly see happen during the convention. Possibilities included “Awkward Ivanka Reference,” “Smiling Chris Christie,” “Ben Carson [Eyes Open],” “Melania Speaks For More Than 10 Seconds,” and “Story of Made-Up Working Class Person.” snow flake answers crossword answers In the Louisiana Area Coushatta has another RED HOT weekend coming up on October 29th & 30. early bird at the same casino. What happened? Is she one of the people that the casinos hire for the big money winner? I heard that the casinos hire people to come in and play and they win the big money, and that money goes back to the casino cage, and the person hired gets a percentage of the win. —S.J., Henderson, Nevada, via email Bingo Shill? A $5,000 game must go, every Friday, in October at WinStar. How sweet that would be. Register with your WinStar club passport card and you’ll get a FREE 3-on with every regular pack. If you have an October birthday, you’ll get a FREE birthday game, with a passport card. Their ALL INCLUSIVE SPECIAL is on Saturday, October 1st. Their ad is on page 23. attacker attempted to run into a nearby alley but fell and later died at the scene. Emergency responders transported the guard to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. About 150 people remained in the Bingo hall throughout the incident. The hall reopened a short time later. No one in the hall was injured. Dear S.J., I contacted a staff member of the Bingo Bugle’s Nevada Edition and checked out what you discovered in the paper. What I learned, however, is not nearly as sinister as what you proposed. First off, it is certainly not unusual for a person to win more than one jackpot during a Bingo session. Granted, this would not result in them changing their name, but it could result in two photos being taken. If the wrong caption ended up on one of the photos, it may be due to the photographer making a notation error after photographing the winner a second time. Setting that theory aside, it is far more likely that the duplicate photo was simply a design error. When designers are laying out the pages of the paper, some may use premade templates to make the job easier. Sometimes they may use a new template; other times they may open an old template and “reuse” the text boxes and photo boxes, stripping out the old pictures, stories and captions and adding new ones. The risk in using an old template, however, is that sometimes the designer will fail to remove all the old copy or images. As a result, the same picture will accidentally not be removed, resulting in its appearing more than once. Alternatively, and far more simply, a new image may be inserted twice on different pages in the course of page design without anyone noticing. However the error occurred, the Nevada Edition certainly regrets the mistake. Interestingly, a number of years ago the same edition had an error in which a photo caption described a young male player celebrating his birthday playing Bingo, while the photo depicted an elderly woman at the Bingo tables. That error made it all the way to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where it was featured in one of Leno’s segments on funny news stories. Finally, in response to your assertion that casinos hire people to win jackpots and return them to the casinos… It seems a bit of a stretch to believe a casino would risk losing its license, face criminal charges, or be shut down for attempting to “steal” Bingo jackpots of a few hundred or even several thousand dollars. And when the really big jackpots happen, casinos go out of their way to publicize the event, showcase the winner and entice more players to visit. Would they really publicize a shill? While preparing this column, I also Googled news stories about Bingo scams/ shills at casinos and found virtually nothing—except for a story from the 1980s on a raid of an Indian Bingo for using planted players. That said, I of course welcome input from any casino Bingo pros out there who know otherwise. —Aunt Bingo Share your views! Write to Aunt Bingo c/o the Bingo Bugle, P.O. The Hardware Store has a long line of jacko-lanterns on their front railing and they are added to daily. These are so creative, but I especially like the ones with circles for eyes and mouth. They look surprised and happy. One grocery store has a huge pile of pumpkins which they give to any child who wants one. This year I am dressing as a witch which Kate says fits my personality but I just ignore her. We don’t go trick or treating, but unless there is a Bingo game, we go uptown and watch the kids race around, collecting loot. Many of our friends do the same, so we make up a merry group. This year there was a Bingo game on the day before Halloween which allowed me to wear my costume twice, making me very happy. We were a mixed bunch at the Bingo Hall, many of us in costume but also many holdouts. Rod and Cliff joined us for the games—which were early and we planned to go to dinner afterward. Rod was in a particularly good mood, dressed as a cavalier and looking very handsome. “I don’t know if I should be seen with a witch,” he said, “But, since it’s you I guess it will be all right.” “You should talk,” I rejoined. “Look at those two,” I pointed to couple dressed as a pumpkin and a scarecrow. “They are enough to put you off Halloween forever.” The games proved to be the usual mix except for two Halloween specials. One, called the “Witching Hour” was a big X plus a small picture frame. Very difficult, but Cliff won and announced dinner was on him tonight. The second Halloween special was two small squares followed by a blackout. It seemed to take forever, but suddenly I was on and began chanting for my number. The scarecrow beat me to it and we were suddenly in a race for the blackout. Kate was sort of grumpy, but even she got in the spirit and was daubing away like crazy. “I don’t know how I feel about all of this Halloween gunk,” she said. “But I guess I can celebrate some seeing as to how you are going so all out.” “Oh, come on,” I said. “You will have more fun if you just relax and enjoy.” And then she won! I was so excited I couldn’t sit still, but she just sat there looking dumbfounded. “I didn’t even realize I was on—and then I won,” she said. “In another second I would have missed it. Who’d have believed?” We all continued to be excited throughout dinner so I suggested we drive around town and look at all the decorations. It was late enough that nobody would object to a slow car driving main street. “Oh look,” I said. “The big giraffe has fairy lights all over him.” “Yup,” said Cliff. “That’s one lit up animal.” We paused to look at the jack-olanterns at the Hardware Store, one of which still had a stub of a candle burning. “I just love Halloween,” I said. To which they all replied, “No kidding.” October / Bingo Bugle / Austin - San Antonio - Texas Hill Country / Page 9 Coushatta Bus Trips From San Antonio & Austin Every Wed, Fri, Sat from San Antonio Wednesday: Receive $15 in perks upon arrival! In another I am sitting inside a Rolls Royce and the chauffeur has arranged for me to iron—and in yet another dream I am ironing in a cruise ship. I no longer own an iron so I am intrigued about these ongoing dreams. Patty H., Chicago, Illinois Outside influences n Dreaming affected Dear Dream Lady, Lately, I have been having the weirdest dreams about ironing! In one Dear Patty, Your “ironing dream” tells me that an emotional burden will be released from your life. The island, Rolls Royce and cruise ship are all symbols of independence, comfort and wealth. Have you been raising a child who is about to leave home or caring for a loved one who will no longer need your services? Whatever the situation, there is light at the end of the tunnel so prepare to start enjoying your life. —Dream Lady GEMINI: May 22-June 21: Give yourself plenty of time to sort out complex commitments that might bind your hands too tightly. There’s a lot coming to fruition this month. You’re a gifted communicator, speak your mind and keep everyone on the same page. One wildcard associate or partner can overturn the entire apple cart. State your intentions clearly and all will be well. Lucky Days: 5-17 Lucky Numbers: 29-36 Horoscopes for October 2016 ARIES: Mar. 21-Apr. 20: Money issues aren’t as daunting as you imagine. Seek guidance. With the full moon in your sign this month you’ll need to involve your partner or associates with your plans to budget so have something leftover to save. Don’t let disagreements over finances rock the boat, with everyone rowing together, and making adjustments that are equitable, it is smooth sailing ahead. Lucky Days: 14-21 Lucky Numbers: 6-50 TAURUS: Apr. 21-May 21: If you feel like it’s time to clear out skeletons in the closet you’re absolutely right. October is a month for making significant purges and healing old wounds that have gone unattended. If none of this appeals to you then take philosopher George Bernard Shaw’s advice: “If you can’t get rid of the skeleton in your closet, you’d better teach it to dance.” Lucky Days: 12-15 Lucky Numbers: 1-44 CANCER: June 22-July 22: A new home life beginning arises after a poignant ending. Too, your career is ready to shift into a fast rocket ride to a new destination, a shift you’ve longed for throughout the year. You’ll want to face the unknown courageously. Keep in mind these words of wisdom from Norman Vincent Peale: “Fear is never a reason for quitting; it is only an excuse.” Lucky Days: 11-21 Lucky Numbers: 9-59 LEO: July 23-Aug. 23: As Venus moves into your house of creative endeavors, you fall in love all over again with your many gifts of self-expression. The pressing question in October is what project to put the most push behind. The full moon on the 16th offers a clue: most likely involving something you’ll write or help publish. Whatever the path, this is a month to celebrate talent. Lucky Days: 2-28 Lucky Numbers: 24-56 VIRGO: Aug. 24-Sept. 23: Remember when you were a kid and you just did whatever was the most fun because you liked doing it—no thoughts about accomplishments or rewards. Rekindle that spirit of adventure in October, revisit a skill or gift that you let go of a longtime ago because it was considered unrealistic. Dear Dream Lady, Maybe it’s because of all the upsetting news about the election, but I am having disturbing dreams about buying guns and hiding them around the house. I also dream of large dogs circling my home. I am not sure where this fear is coming from because I live in a safe neighborhood. I am more interested in how to get these dreams to stop since I think I know what they mean. Carleen D., Long Beach, California worst incidents are featured. So, do not start or end your day with TV news. Try music or CDs you enjoy. Also, begin each day with yoga or a walk in your neighborhood and end with a book, music or magazine you enjoy. These techniques should help you. — Dream Lady Readers: Please mail your dreams to Dream Lady, P.O. Box 414, Entiat WA 98822. Send an SASE if you would like a personal reply before publication. Not all dreams are published. Dear Carleen, Since fear is the consistent element in this dream, and since you live in a safe neighborhood, the dreams are coming from outside influences, most likely, TV news. Some people have their TVs on all day and, unfortunately, turned to the news channels where the Life’s as real as we make it. Have fun! Lucky Days: 6-22 Lucky Numbers: 8-59 LIBRA: Sept. 24-Oct. 23: With Jupiter, the planet of luck and bounty in your house of self you are your best resource right now. It’s time to think big and step out of the shadows. Profitable new opportunities bloom under the full moon on the 16th, the only catch will involve a kerfuffle on the home front that needs immediate attention. Quell the disruption and get on with reaching your goals. Lucky Days 14-25 Lucky Numbers: 4-39 SCORPIO: Oct. 24-Nov. 22: The singer Isaac Hayes once said, “If you enjoy the fragrance of a rose, you must accept the thorns which it bears.” That sums up the mixed bag of emotions you’ll experience this month—there’s the sweetness, but also the shadow. The full moon on the 16th throws this dichotomy into high relief. Use your power to penetrate secrets to find your way through. Lucky Days: 10-26 Lucky Numbers 17-41 SAGITTARIUS: Nov. 23-Dec. 21: The full moon on the 16th brings you some much sought after relief—a critical insight regarding the way forward for the rest of the year; 2016 has been a challenge as Saturn continues to push you toward more responsible paths and projects, the sort of limitations that get on your nerves. Focus on all the wisdom you’ve acquired so far and not the labor it required to achieve it. Lucky Days: 12-16 Lucky Numbers: 8-5o7 CAPRICORN: Dec. 22-Jan. 20: Don’t be too hard on yourself, you’ve been jugging a difficult set of circumstances and strategies while attempting to get what you want without seeming grabby. But you can’t please all of the people all of the time. Be willing to look less than perfect this month. Just remember this quote from the writer Jack Heath: “Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.” Lucky Days: 13-39 Lucky Numbers: 8-55 AQUARIUS: Jan. 21-Feb. 19: It’s time to start a diary or journal—you’re buzzing with new ideas and insights— riding high on inspiration, but how to catalog it all? Organization becomes critical on the 16th when the full moon sets everything spinning and you feel like you’re pulled in five different directions at the same time. Prioritize projects to soothe your mind, and leave the rest to fate. Lucky Days: 2-12 Lucky Numbers: 31-48 PISCES: Feb. 20-Mar. 20: With Saturn moving forward now it’s easier for you to face hard truths about your career. Your skills and talents need to emerge out of the shadows; now’s the time to launch your boat, the tide is in your favor and many of your friends and family members are rooting for you, too. The only question to ponder is the best sort of inspiration to sustain you for the long haul. But always holding a dealt winning hand isn’t necessarily the right play to make in all cases. Take for example the following hand (assume you are playing Jacks or Better). Jh-Qh-Ah-6h-10h Well congratulations, you were just dealt a paying flush in hearts. For a five-coin wager, the payback is 30 coins on a 9/6 Jacks or Better machine (or 25 coins if you happen to be playing a short-pay 9/5 or 8/5 game). But wait a minute! If you take another look at this hand, you’ll notice it also contains four cards to the royal flush (10-J-Q-A of hearts). It’s tempting to take that certain 30-coin profit right then and there rather than take the risk of going for the royal flush and possibly ending up with a zero payoff. (As the saying goes, “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” Really?) If you hold a four-card royal flush, here are the possible results when you draw one card. You could draw another heart, which will give you a paying flush. There are 13 hearts per deck. You hold five of them in your hand; therefore, there are 7 hearts left in the remaining 47 undealt cards that would give you a paying flush. (This excludes the K of hearts, the card you need for the royal flush. The seven cards that would give you a flush are the 2-3-4-5-7-8-9 of hearts). If you drew one of those seven cards, you’d get paid 30 coins. Another possibility is you could get a straight when you draw to the fourcard royal flush. In the above hand, if you drew a king in spades, clubs, or diamonds you would end up with a straight that pays 20 coins. A third possibility is to draw another jack, queen, or ace that would give you a high pair for a five-coin payout. There are four of each of those cards in a deck. You hold three of them in your hand. Therefore, there are nine of these high cards left in the remaining 47 cards that will give you a high pair and a 20 coin pay out. The last possible result is the one you are praying for; namely, drawing the king of diamonds, which will give you a royal flush and a big 4,000 coin pay out. (There is only 1 king of diamond in the 47 remaining cards; therefore, the odds of this happening are 1/47.) There are no other possible winning hands when you hold a J-Q-A-10 in hearts and draw one card (e.g., you can’t get two pair, or four-of-a-kind or even a straight flush). I’ve tabulated the possible results of drawing one card to the Jh-Qh-Ah-10h in the table below. The first column shows the possible winning results, the second column summarizes the number of times you could get each result, the next column shows the probability of getting each result, and the fourth column is the product of the probability times the payoff. If you sum the last column, you arrive at an expected value (or EV) of 92 coins. The latter is the average payback you can expect when drawing one card to a four-card royal flush, after an infinite number of trials. Putting this into perspective, let’s assume you are a dollar player playing $5 per hand (max coins). If you decided to hold the paying flush, your return will be a certain $30. If instead, you decide to hold the four-card royal flush, your average payback will be about $92. Yes, some of the times you will win nothing when you draw one card and don’t get a royal flush, flush, straight, or high pair (that will happen 27 times out of 47); other times, you’ll get a flush and win $30 (probability 7/47), or get a $20 payoff for a straight (3/47), a $5 payout for a high pair (9/47), and, if you are lucky, a whopping $4,000 payout for a royal flush (1/47). When you average all the possible payouts for this hand times the probability that each winning hand will occur, your average payback will be $92, which is slightly more than three times the certain $30 payback for holding the paying flush. Unless you plan to play one video poker hand in your lifetime, a $92 average payback in the long run (by tossing the winning flush) is a whole lot better than a certain $30 payback (by holding the flush). Sfslac - Selma Police Barbecue Team Background Check Well, I did it. The ad said I would be jaw-dropping stunned, and I was. I can’t begin to tell you how many times the ad has interrupted my work and I just clicked on that little x in the upper right hand corner. But that guy who looks up the dirt on almost everyone was not to be denied and I finally gave in. He protected himself (he thinks) from lawsuits by forcing the snoop to promise not to tell anyone what was learned. I scanned my list of friends and decided that I already knew most of them better than anyone else. After all, we do meet together on a regular basis and discuss our faults and failures and pray for each other in our struggle to conquer them. How could I acknowledge to them that I was so nosy as to “investigate” them? There was just one thing to do. With trembling fingers I typed in my own name. And yes, I am stunned…not so much by what he knew as what he didn’t know. My kids will be stunned, too, when they find out I never had any children. I can hear it now. “Gosh Mom, who are you leaving your car to?” And what about the stories I told them about their Daddy in heaven? I’ve got some explaining to do…even to myself. You see, I have always thought my life was exciting and fulfilling. I tried everything I wanted to do and I have been happy doing it. I taught school, directed a ballet, co-founded a homeless shelter and wrote a few books about Bingo. I always wanted to go to law school. I applied and was accepted at the age of 58, but just didn’t have time, because we wintered in Florida, and the school just wouldn’t rearrange their schedule to accommodate us. Now that it is too late to change my life journey I find out that I have never sat for a mug shot, been incarcerated, finger printed or accused of a felony. I have never been the recipient of a windfall via divorce, I don’t remember moving several times to several states and I wonder who all those people are that I have always called my relatives. I have never had an unpleasant encounter with a police officer. I am almost sure my memory is still intact. Why else would I regret that someone out there has my debit card numbers and I am out a dollar ninety-five?
