Here Comes the Sun
June 2016
June 20 marks the summer solstice, the first
day of the summer season and the longest day
of the year. On this day, the sun travels the
longest path through the sky, providing the
continental U.S. 14 to 16 hours of daylight.
The Science Behind Mosquito Bites
Are you one of those people who often gets
eaten alive by mosquitoes, while your friends
remain bite-free? Blame your family tree:
Scientists estimate that genetics make up
85 percent of a person’s susceptibility to
mosquito bites. Research has also shown that
these pesky insects may prefer people with
type O blood.
Be Smart About Self-Serve Treats
Self-service frozen yogurt shops are popular
because they let you mix flavors and pick from
dozens of toppings to make your own soft-serve
creations. They also make it easy to overindulge.
Keep your fro-yo cup from overflowing with
these tips from dietitians: First, fill your cup
halfway with fresh fruit from the toppings bar.
Choose your yogurt flavor and add it to the
top of the fruit. About three full seconds at
the yogurt pump will produce a proper
serving size.

the fixer of broken household objects and the
occasional shoulder to cry on. We would like to
let all the fathers, grandfathers and fathers-to-be
in our community know that we appreciate you.
