Country Lovers Western Dance February 2004 Volume 167 Message From the President Inside this issue: Celebrations & More New Year’s Dance Sunshine ! Adopt-a-Poll Superbowl Dance March Dance Mailing Page 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 February 7 Superbowl Dance @ the College United Methodist Church, Ventura March 6 Support Our Troops Dance @ the College United Methodist Church, Ventura Wow! It's February already? I couldn't ask for a better way to start the year off as the new President than what we have seen in January. Some of you may be aware that we track weekly attendance and this last Tuesday was the largest group we have had in years. It is so exciting to me both as President and as an instructor to see the attendance rising. As I mentioned last month, the Club is here to promote western dancing in Ventura County and if January is any indication we are doing something right. I would like to encourage everyone to get those happy feet out on the dance floor as often as possible. The manager at Duke's on the Port Hueneme Base approached me about getting County Lovers out on Saturday nights to do some dancing. For anyone who is interested, please contact me to get a Sat. night Base Pass. I will need your legal name, address, phone number and valid driver's license number. The Pass will be long term that you simply need to show at the gate and will be valid on nights there is country dancing. A former member, Will Rogers is the DJ and is very familiar with many of the popular dances. He has already promised that if we come out he'll do his best to play our requests. Also, let's not forget about the Camarillo dance the third Saturday of every month, Friday nights at the American Legion with Vince and Friday nights at the Holiday Inn with KHAY. Of course, the one I know I will see all of you at is the Country Lovers Super Bowl Dance February 7th. Come celebrate the winners (yes, Betty we know who you are routing for), well even if it not to celebrate, we will still have a great time dancing the night away. Don't forget to mark you calendar if you have not already done so for our dance March 7th and also the St. Patrick's Day Parade March 13. Join us in the parade either on the float or dancing in the street! I hope everyone has survived the holiday credit card shock and managed to get their life settled again. Just a word of warning, if Tuesday nights, February 15th and 24th, seem a little strange or low in attendance quite a few of us will be in Hawaii, but there will be a Tues. night dance party. With a little luck some of us may not make it back. I know wishful thinking on my part... See you on the dance floor! COUNTRY LOVER “ADOPT-A-POLL” REPORT It is election time in Ventura County again! The California Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2004. The Ventura County Election Board, in all of its infinite wisdom, has given not one, but two polling places to run and administer to your favorite dance club, Country Lovers ! For those of you who vote (I hope that includes all of you), the normal polling place is a very quite and reserved atmosphere. The business of voting is very serious and therefore decorum and aloofness is the order of the day. Not so at the Country Lovers Adopt-A-Poll site. Our order of the day is to have fun and involve the voters if they so choose. We do observe all of the rules that the Election Board decrees but we have fun at the same time. The reason we participate is the Adopt-A-poll program is simple. MONEY! It is a fundraiser for the Club and it requires only a minimum of manpower and effort. It is just as easy a fundraiser as our Swap Meet sales and both of them come in ahead of carwashes. The duties of the Country Lover participants are pretty easy to learn. It involves looking up people’s names and checking them off of voter registers. It also involves having fun and not getting bored. If any of this sounds interesting please see either myself, Dennis Culver or Bob Allen, and we will get you involved in this activity. The only requirement is that you are a registered Ventura County voter. Please see Bob or myself up through the Tuesday dance meetings of February 10th, (we are off to Hawaii after that date). The actual polling place that we have been assigned is, guess where? That’s right, the Moose Club in Ventura where we meet every Tuesday evening. Another incentive for participation is that we have free KRISPY CREMES for all workers. You just don’t see that at the “normal” polling place anymore! Thank you for your kind attention, Dennis Culver, Poll-Master Extraordinaire As Secretary of Country Lovers, one of the responsibilities is to head the Sunshine Committee. This consists of sending out cards to our members who are not feeling well, or could use sympathy cards. I don't have a magic crystal ball, if you don't feel well, having surgery, need help, have lost someone - please let Deanna or myself know. I promise not to ask alot of questions or get nosey. I know I always find getting a card a real treat (instead of bills and junk mail). Please spread the word. Warm wishes, Polly Ledford CAUGHT RED HANDED February 13 and 27 @ Ventura Holiday Inn in the Breakers Lounge Thanks for your support! Camarillo Community Center Saturday night dances ! Our 2nd annual New Year’s Extravaganza was another success! It was just too much fun… I didn’t even realize that I’d been there for over six hours! The meal was served at 7:30 pm sharp A big thanks to them! Jeanne Clayton took home and lived up to my memory of how great last year’s dinner was.
