Meter: Meter is the number of beats in a measure.
There are 2 ways to ID meter in music:
1) Look at the time signature.
2) Listen to music and ID the meter.
Duple Meter: Patterns of 2 or 4

Triple Meter: patterns of 3

Steps for Listening to Music and identifying meter:
1) Listen first
2) Find the steady beat. Lightly pat this on your lap and tap on
your desk.
3) Count to 4 with the steady beat.
4) Count to 3 with the steady beat.
Which one (4 or 3) is easier and makes sense with the music?
