Volunteers - an Important
Part Of Angel Appeal
Angel appeal volunteers are angels themselves. It
takes over 35 Coastal Hospice volunteers to assemble
holiday trees, mail appeals, hang angels on the trees,
process remittance envelopes, write
thank you notes, and field countless
questions. Our appeal would not be
successful without the help of our
volunteers.
Thank you for your commitment to
Coastal Hospice.

Santa and his Elves
Santa and his elves visited patients at home and at Coastal Hospice at the Lake on December 14,
15, and 16 delivering fruit baskets donated by the Quota Club and stuffed animals donated by Temple
Bat Yam and All Hallows Parish. Elves offered our patients and their families the opportunity to
have their picture taken with Santa. The Santa's were played by Rocky Burnett, Dave Duitscher and
Pete Richmond, and Santa’s elves were affectionately represented by Neil Gottesman, Jim
McWilliams, Ernie Matthews, Kim and Dwight Rolley and Norm Wolske.
We received many calls and letters from patients and their families expressing how wonderful the
visits were. They enjoyed the hugs, smiles and conversation with Santa and his elves. The patients
felt the visit made their day.
Thank you to Santa, his elves and our “behind the scenes” elves for donating their time to make this
event meaningful for our patients and their families.

Chew and Chat
Dear Coastal Hospice Volunteers:
Anyone who needs help getting into the spirit of
the holiday season need only get to know you, our
Coastal Hospice Volunteers. Every year, we reach
out into the community for financial support and
every year you make it happen. The annual Angel
Appeal is just one example of the difference you
make in the life of Coastal Hospice.
In fact, this year’s Angel Appeal message seems
as though it was written for and about you. Here’s
what it says: “It’s amazing what can truly happen,
how your life can be so grand, when you give up
trying on your own and let an angel hold your
hand.”
It was a volunteer, Susan Purnell, who chairs our
Development Committee, that found this message
for us. It describes how Hospice can transform
lives, and how all of you make life grand at
Coastal Hospice. The cards are printed locally,
assembled for mailing by the women’s work release unit at the Worcester County jail and labeled
by our volunteer Mailing Committee crew.
When the Angels make their way back to us, each
bearing a gift to support the work of Coastal
Hospice, Volunteer Walt McCabe picks them up
at the Post Office. Next Barbara Stephens and
Karyl Tyler prepare the bank deposit. Finally, a
volunteer corps hand-writes the acknowledgment
cards to donors and delivers angels to the Angel
Trees in the four counties we serve.
It’s a remarkable expression of the love and care
Coastal Hospice brings each day to the community.
And a reminder of the fact that we couldn’t do it
without you.
From the bottom of my heart – and on behalf of
Jan Silvia and Anita Todd, my colleagues in
Development – thank you for all that you do for
Coastal Hospice.
Fondly,
Maureen McNeill,
Coastal Hospice Director of Development
