Jean Camie Jackson “Heart of Hospice” Award
It is our pleasure each year to honor volunteers for their service above and beyond our highest
expectations. As you may imagine, this can be difficult because each of you gives so much.
This year we’re happy to recognize Jeanne Hearn and Dave Duitscher, for this honor. They’ll
tell you they didn’t deserve the award, but we enjoyed having the opportunity to acknowledge
these wonderful volunteers for their dedicated service to Coastal Hospice and our patients.
Jeanne and Dave are outstanding volunteers in their respective fields. Dave, a patient care
volunteer, visits patients in their homes and at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. He is a highly
Jeanne Hearn, April Clyde
skilled listener with a friendly and calming personality. Dave comforts and cares for patients
and family members. Dave also represents Coastal Hospice at health fairs, memorials and community events.
Patient Support Volunteer Jeanne Hearn gives her time in the Volunteer Services office every
week. You’ll find Jeanne printing, compiling, and assembling admission notebooks and
packets. Outdated forms are no match for Jeanne’s keen eye to detail. Jeanne reviews
returned forms, notebooks and packets using only the current forms.
We are grateful for the dedicated service of all our volunteers. It is through your efforts that
we are able to serve so well the families of the Lower Eastern Shore.

Volunteers Celebrate National Volunteer Week
Gift bags, potted plants, delicious food and great conversation were part of the volunteer celebration
during National Volunteer Week. Coastal Hospice staff welcomed our volunteers by hosting two wonderful
morning brunches filled with sweet and savory treats at the Ocean Pines Library and the Salisbury Volunteer Services office.
Judy Hunt-Harris, Volunteer Services Manager, thanked the volunteers for sharing their time, energy
and talents. “We cannot thank you enough for all you do! Without the dedicated service of our volunteers
Coastal Hospice could not meet our mission in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties”,
she said.
April Clyde, Director of Clinical Services, presented the Jean “Camie” Jackson award to Jeanne
Hearn and Dave Duitscher for their outstanding service with Coastal Hospice. Judy presented the You
Make a Difference awards to Thrift Shop volunteer Sue Johnston, CHO/Patient Care volunteer Gloria Carr,
and Patient Support volunteer Walter McCabe, for his 444 hours of service in 12 months. Oliveand Pete
Hanes received the multi hat award and Carol Jacob the “Shoe Master” award. All attendees received a gift
bag and door prizes.
