Jean Camie Jackson “Heart of Hospice” Award Each year, it is our pleasure to honor volunteers for their service above and beyond our highest expectations. As you may imagine, this can be difficult because each of you gives so much. This year we’re happy to recognize Stephanie Colletti and Ernie Matthews, for this honor. They’ll tell you they didn’t deserve the award, but we enjoyed having the opportunity to acknowledge these wonderful volunteers for their dedicated service to Coastal Hospice and our patients. Stephanie and Ernie are outstanding volunteers in their respective fields. Stephanie, a patient care volunteer, spends Monday evenings at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. In the past 12 months she has touched the lives of over 160 patients and families. She is a highly skilled listener with a friendly and calming personality who comforts and cares for both the patient and their family. Patient Support Volunteer Ernie Matthews is chairman of our Annual Geranium Sale and a member of the development committee. He has implemented improvements in the preparation of our annual operating budget, streamlined our process for preparing reports required by our governing agencies, and built a database which supports volunteer services. We are grateful for the dedicated service of all our volunteers. It is through your efforts that we are Hunt-Harris, Stephanie Colletti, and Alane able to serve so well the families of Judy Capen, Coastal Hospice President the Lower Eastern Shore. Alane Capen, Coastal Hospice President, and Ernie Matthews SAFETY TIPS FOR USING ATM’S When using an ATM, particularly at night, be aware of your surroundings. Look around to see if there is anyone in the area that appears to be suspicious. Things to look for include suspicious vehicles, a person(s) standing in the shadows wearing clothing that makes them unidentifiable, such as hooded sweatshirt, or mask. Drive slowly around the building and use your bright lights to highlight the area. If you see anything unusual DO NOT use the ATM, LEAVE immediately and notify police. If you are approached by a suspect that demands money do not resist. Most suspects only want your money and are usually scared. In most cases they usually take your money and run. Do your best to get a good accurate description of the suspect and the direction they run so that police can attempt to track them. Do not write your PIN number on your ATM card. If it should be stolen the thief would have easy access to your account. Keep your number in a safe place. If you must use an ATM try to use it during daylight hours and if you must use one at night use one in a busy area.
