Al Chez - BIOGRAPHY
ALAN CHEZ (Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Valve Trombone and Percussion. Chez started
his extensive music career at the age of 9 when he joined his father's local drum
corps, the Saints. Chez still donates his time to drum corps activity working with many
DCI and DCA corps. As well as BOA bands. CHEZ conducts brass music clinics and
marching band clinics and performances throughout the country .
In 1979, joined forces with Jon Bon Jovi to create the band the Atlantic City
Expressway, which played New Jersey shore clubs for years. Chez has also played
with such artists as Tower of Power, Robert Cray Band, Spyro Gyra, Sting, Rolling
Stones, Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, Cee lo Greene , Snoop dog, James Brown as
well of many others. He has performed at such events as several Presidential
Inaugurations , Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions and Rock hall DVD
collection, John Lennon's 50th birthday celebration in Tokyo Japan , the 1996
Centennial Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies, the Concert of the Century at
the White House, the Concert for New York and the Very Special Christmas Concert.
Chez is devoting his time these days to his a Passion "Al Chez & The Brothers of
Funk Big Band," a big band playing rock and soul music with big horn sound Al chez
and The Brothers of Funk will be touring starting in 2013.
Alan Chez Joined the CBS Orchestra on Feb. 3, 1997 after years of sitting in on
trumpet and flugelhorn with Late Night with David Letterman NBC and the Late
Show CBS. His 15 year run at the show is second to Doc Severinsen as the longest
TV trumpet player.
Chez was born in Jersey City, N.J., on July 7. He and his wife, Cat, six kids, three
dogs and two cats, continue to live in the great state of New Jersey.
The Brothers of Funk
In 2008, Al met up with trumpet player Jimmy Steele and Jarred Streiff while
working in Rochester, NY. The result of the meeting was Al Chez & The Brothers of
Funk Big Band. This high energy 14 piece band consists of some of the most
powerful rock arrangements coupled with Alan’s stratospheric trumpet playing and
soulful wocals, making for a magical and memorable show. Playing with Alan are
some of the most-talented musicians from the New York area and you never know
who may be sitting in at any given event.
Al Chez & The Brothers of Funk Big Band (and sisters too) offers a turbo charged,
passionate big band sound that takes Funk to a new level, mixing Rock, Swing, and
Jazz into a high-energy sound that is sure to raise the roof.
Al Chez – Giving Back
Al Chez has been involved with music since the 1960's. Although born in the 60's
himself his passion for music and the arts started before his teens, following in his
families foot steps by being heavily involved with the drum corps. In the late
1970's and early 1980's Al became a marching member and soloist with the
Garfield Cadets. Alan has never forgotten where his roots have come from and
remains heavily involved with the drums corps as well as doing many band camps
across the nation.
Al Chez continues to do commercials, tours and album tracks with many artists.
