Mission Statement
St. Mary’s Preparatory is a Catholic, all-boys college
preparatory high school with a Polish-American
heritage and legacy since 1885 A.D. We exist to provide
deserving young men the moral guidance, discipline, and
education to become Christ-like models of service and
leadership for the world. By completion of our spiritual
and educational model, these men gain the character,
reverence, and fortitude to meet all challenges for the
greater glory of God and their alma mater.

Awards Synopsis
Admissions Award: This student went above and beyond working in our
Admissions Department “Shadow” program.
Anthony and Stella Kozma Polish Heritage Award: This award celebrates
the strong Polish heritage of the Kozma family. The recipient must be a
freshman, sophomore, or junior with a strong Polish heritage and/or be
enrolled in a Polish language class with a commitment to continue for the
subsequent academic year. He must also demonstrate a commitment to
promoting and preserving Polish culture and/or language.
Cathy Koterba Award: The Cathy Koterba Award is given to two students
deemed to be St. Mary’s Preparatory’s most deserving artists in their
respective fields.
Century Cup: The Century Cup is awarded to the class that has exhibited
school spirit, academic excellence, athletic success and a strong commitment
to spirituality at OLSM.
Dean of Residence Award: This plaque is awarded to a boarding student
for overall contributions to the lives of his Resident Brothers at Kolbe Hall.
This recipient makes living on campus a better experience for all students.
Dean of Students Award: The Dean of Students Award is an honor
bestowed upon the St. Mary’s senior who has been a living example of a
student who embraces the mission of St. Mary’s and abides willingly by the
spirit of our Honor Code and School Regulations.
“For the Boys” Award: This award is given to a senior who has demonstrated
significant service to the Prep and/or his classmates, motivated not by
recognition or compensation but by kindness, concern and empathy. He
leads by example as a true Man of St. Mary’s.
Iron Man Award: Awarded to a student who has demonstrated unparalleled
dedication and perseverance in working toward his school-related goals
and/or to a student who has demonstrated significant growth in the face of
adversity and has done so in an exemplary fashion.
Karen Stewart Award: The Karen Stewart Award is given each year to
two students. One award is given to the student who displays the greatest
mathematical aptitude and performance. The second award is given to the
student who struggles in his mathematical achievement, but transcends
his challenges.
Awards Synopsis
Ken and Jackie Smerecki Award: The Ken and Jackie Smerecki Award
commemorates the years of service of Ken and Jackie to the Moms and
Dads Club. Their efforts and dedication are recognized in a student who
has character of the highest caliber, and parents who show exceptional
service and leadership in the Moms and Dads Club.
Msgr. Stanley E. Milewski Spirit Award: Awarded to a senior who
exemplifies the spirit of St. Mary’s Prep and has a love and passion for
athletics.
National Medical Arts Award: Awarded annually to a junior selected by
the Science Department Faculty who has demonstrated excellence in all
areas of scientific study.
Patrick Daneluk “Unsung Hero” Award: The Unsung Hero Award is
named for Patrick Daneluk who was tragically killed in a car accident
shortly after graduation. Patrick was a former Unsung Hero Award winner
himself. These awards are nominated by fellow St. Mary’s students and
faculty and the criteria are set by the written submissions that plead their
cases.
Paul Ziemba Award: Paul Ziemba was Valedictorian of St. Mary’s Prep
(1986) who passed into eternal life while piloting an Air Force bomber
jet. Paul was also Valedictorian at the Air Force Academy and their TopStick Flight schools. He is remembered for his superior intelligence in all
academic areas and was a charismatic leader among his peers. This award
is given to a junior who exemplifies those same qualities.
SMACK Award: Initially known as Students Against Driving Drunk, OLSM
SADD evolved into Students Against Destructive Decisions to encompass
behaviors beyond traffic safety. In September 2015, our group was
rebranded St. Mary’s Actions Create Knowledge (SMACK), which reflects
our continuing efforts to bring awareness to key safety issues through both
our actions and words. The SMACK Award winner is a student who best
exemplifies our mission to guide his peers towards making decisions by
presenting evidence, demonstrating service, and leading by example.
Tim Zebari Award: Named for a beloved former student, the Tim Zebari
Award is a very special award at OLSM. The winner is a student who has a
special blessedness and human excellence that all admire. The Tim Zebari
Award winner is filled with a spirit of life, energy and friendship that is an
inspiration to the whole school.

This statue of Fr. Joseph Dabrowski, the founder of St. Mary’s
Preparatory and SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, was created
to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Fr. Dabrowski’s
passing into eternal life. This artistic rendering is a replica of
the last picture ever taken of Fr. Joe before his reunion with the
Lord. It has become an icon and trademark of our campus.
