What a great Quilt Show we had. So many beautiful quilts were seen by a record number of people. Thank You Beverly and your crew for all the hard work. You have set a
high standard for future quilt shows. Congratulations to all the winners and everyone
that had a quilt in the show. What a talented group of quilters. I heard a lot of good
things about the show. Everyone liked the new set up with the wider aisles.
I just finished making reservations at “Our House in Milford” for a retreat in
March. The dates are March 8, 9, 10 and 11 mark these days on your calendar.
We have made some changes as to sign up and payment. Sign up will be at the
November 17th Guild meeting. A deposit of one hundred dollars will be required
and the money will be deposited after the guild meeting not held as has been
done in the past. The remaining balance will be due at the February Guild meeting. The total cost of the retreat is $225.00 which includes three nights and our
meals including breakfast. This is more than we have paid in the past but we will
have only one retreat in 2012 with several one day retreats at Harberger Hill
scheduled through the year. Please note; there are no refunds, once you have
made a reservation for the retreat if you cannot attend it is your responsibility to
find a replacement. Contact the person in charge see if anyone is on the waiting
list. Your refund will come from your replacement. Please take a moment and go
to the web site ourhouseinmilford.com to check out the new retreat facility. If you
have any questions, please call me.
Don’t forget that there is a Day Retreat on October 21 at Harberger Hill. Next month we
will have Nova Montgomery, her workshop is all about the Singer Featherweight sewing
machines. I can’t wait for the class as I just got a 63 year old Featherweight. Sounds
crazy buying an old machine but what a great machine they are and light enough to
take to classes.
During our October Board meeting we discussed making a donation to Habit for Humanity. They are planning to build another house in Weatherford. We will present this
information to you at the October Guild meeting. Please give this some thought.
On a personal note many of you knew that Bob and I were leaving after the Quilt Show
to visit my ninety year old Aunt and Uncle in Eugene, Oregon. We enjoyed our visit with
them. My Aunt wanted go to the coast to see the ocean which we did and had a nice
lunch in the seaside town of Florence. My Aunt is a little more forgetful and my Uncle
has taken over the cooking. I think I better add that he has not done very much cooking
in the past fifty years. I hope when Bob and I are in our nineties we will still be able to
get around as they do.
Please don’t forget to bring canned food for the Senior Center.
Happy Quilting

UFO Day Retreat
Hello Everyone.
I hope the Quilt Show inspired everyone to come to
the Sew-In (A Day Retreat) at Harberger Hill Sat. Oct
22, 2011. I will open the doors at 8 am and remember
to B.Y.O.L. (Bring your own lunch and drinks and
snacks) Bring whatever you want to sew. Start a project for next years show, finish up some Christmas
projects or just come for the fellowship. This day of sewing will
end at 4pm..I look forward to seeing you there. Please see me at
the meeting on the 20th to sign
up, space is limited.
Don’t forget your block of the month this month. We are going to have two drawings this month. They will be for the
August and September blocks. So be sure to make your
blocks and turn them in.
Last month, Andrea drew a “square in a square” for the recipe quilt. So this is the list of blocks that we have drawn for
this quilt so far.
Half square triangle, flying geese, log cabin, leaf block, snow
ball, friendship star, and square in a square. We will be
drawing more blocks to put into your recipe quilt. So you still
have time to catch up, if you haven’t started, to make a quilt
that is your design and interpretation of the blocks that have
been and will be drawn. We have seen some of the quilt
tops each month and they are just great. Hope to see more
this month.

Hello Quilters,
www.weatherfordbeads.com
Carol Morrissey is our speaker at October Guild meeting. I
looked her up on the internet and we are in for a treat. Her
patterns range from 2 ½ in strips to flowers and wildlife
scenes. Her Prickly Pear Cactus and Blue Bonnets are
perfect. Some people are so creative.
It’s time to get to work on those Christmas projects. I’ll
have our decoration and gift books out.
We’re not going to have the magazine table until after the
first of the year. I’m working on places to send the unwanted ones.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting.
