Mastering science to deliver innovative solutions
As a company of innovation it is our
ambition to discover new dimensions in
polymer additives. We are now developing
antifog additives that improve hot and
cold fog applications of PP, PE and other
plastic food packaging films. In addition,
we focus on easy to use antifog additives
that improve durability of agricultural films.

Our antifog additives offer the solution to problems
­related to the formation of water droplets on plastic films.
­Antifog additives are added to the polymer in the extrusion process, migrating to the polymer surface over time
and giving the required effect through reduction of the
surface tension of the water droplets. At the point of
condensation a uniform, transparent w
­
­ater-layer is
formed ­
preserving film transparency. ­
Antifog additives
improve light-transmission and hence crop-growth in
green ­
houses. In food packaging antifog additives
­enhance product appeal and shelf life.
Insight into our customers’ needs
The need for new antifog additives arises from the fundamental problem that exists with traditional agricultural
films. Antifog performance is not durable enough. The
main challenge in food packaging films is to develop
­antifog additives that perform well in both hot and cold
fog applications. What also challenges us is to understand the interaction with other additives which may
­decrease film performance over time. Not to forget
­processing ­parameters that can have a negative impact
on antifog ­performance.
Armofog 151-XE35
One of our latest products introduced to the market is
Armofog 151-XE35, a highly concentrated antifog
­additive for use in food packaging films. Armofog 151XE35 offers you savings in operational time and costs.
This concentrate is easy to use while giving all of the
­advantages of pure Armofog 151.
Using synergies with AkzoNobel’s polymer and surface
chemistry strengths we have developed significant
knowledge in this field. This, coupled with our thorough
understanding of polymer production and processing is
the basis for the development of our innovative antifog
additives. Designed with you in mind.
