` MOTON HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC. THE TIGER NEWS VOLUME 14 NU MBER 4 President’s Message Two Thousand Fifteen has been a very busy and interesting year for Moton Alumni Association. Two successful activities have happened even though our attendance has not been as we would have liked it to be; however those in attendance felt that the activities were worthwhile. These two activities were the Fish and Crab Cake Dinners which was held in June and the Luncheon highlighting the classes of 1951-1953 was held in September. The Frederick Douglass Honor Society and the Academy of Arts presented the Moton High School Alumni Association with a beautiful plaque at its Juneteenth celebration at the Academy of Arts in Easton, Maryland on NOVEMBER, 2015 Saturday, June 20, 2015. beginning at 10:00 a.m. The inscription on our plaque reads as: Frederick Douglass Honor Society 2015 Juneteenth Celebrate Legends In Education We Honor the Moton Alumni Association For Keeping the History of Robert Russa Moton High School Alive Co-Sponsored by the Academy Arts Museum We remain hopeful that the last activity, the Basketball Classic being held on November 27,2015 will continue to be a successful activity. We look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you present at Easton High School for this activity. 1 Please support the class of 1967 who is sponsoring a dance on Saturday, November 28,2015. Pictured from L to R 1st row 1st row, Zena Mae Chance, Bernita Murray, Anna Wilson, Lillian Gibson Roberts, Lorraine Whittington Norman, Sandra K. Benston, Cheryl The class of 1965 from the Robert Russa Moton Junior Senior High School recently celebrated its 50th reunion, beginning with a pre-reunion get together at the home of Georgene Cooper.on 3 Friday, July 24, 2015. This party was made possible by generous donations from Gregory Hall, Richard Cooper and Georgene Cooper. The next day twenty nine of the surviving members of the class along with spouses and friends gathered at “The Milestone in Easton, Maryland. Also in attendance were three teachers from the Moton; Bertha Wilson, Helen Powell Bryan and Roger Bryan. The evening began with cocktails and an assortment of crudités, cheeses and fruit. Adorning the room was a banner with the class’s motto “The Stairway to Success is Ours to Conquer”. The theme for the reunion was Friends: Yesterday, Today, Forever. Helen Gross Savoy and Lorraine Whittington Norman designed and donated the goodies in the Canvas bag favor that had the theme affixed to it. The canvas bags were donated by Harriett Brown, Gordon Sampson and Richard Cooper. Everyone attending the reunion received a bag that in addition to the goodies mentioned above also contained a CD of the class yearbook. The Reverend Joseph Wilson opened the event with the Invocation, later he blessed the food and delivered the Benediction. During the program phase, William Wells paid tribute to all of the deceased class members and it did not seem possible that we had lost as many classmates as we had. Later it was announced that class members were being asked to donate money to the Moton Alumni Association Scholarship Fund in memory of Frederick Roberts, who died just before the reunion. Several classmates donated that night and others promised to follow suit. The rest of the evening was devoted to pure fun; dinner was served along with an assortment of desserts. Old pictures were viewed and laughed at, everyone remarking that they still looked the same! It was pointed out that Ralph Hawkins and Helen Savoy actually had not gained an ounce. However, everyone looked great even though we all probably had some aches and pains not to mention some major health scares. Genie Gumby was still short and Armond was still tall. A few who shall remain nameless, have added some pounds but everybody came with big smiles especially Johnitha Roberts, Anna Wilson, Mickey Hynson, Cheryl Young, Odessa Flamer Lillian Gibson Roberts, Earl Fields, Rose Guy and Jackie Brummell. The aches all seemed to go away with the warm greetings and laughter that never stopped the entire evening. Gordon Sampson explained the meaning of the class poem and Harriett Brown after bringing greetings along with Dale Webb officially bestowed a Moton Diploma on Jo Ann Dashiell Murray. The program booklet designed by Sandra (Sandee) Benston and Dale Webb and donated by Dale Webb was fantastic. It will be available on a CD in the future. Gregory Hall not only cohosted but he also prepared a photo essay of the class. The class was treated to a warm hello CD from Walter Dickerson, who currently resides in Mobile, Alabama and was unable to attend due to health issues. He wanted everyone to know that he was there in spirit. Zena Mae Stanley Chase brought he house down with a “Mrs. Early” story. James Smith who along with his fiancée came all the way from Los Angeles California to attend the reunion surprised and delighted all of his classmates. The evening ended with Emma Hopkins leading the group in a rousing singing of the Alma Mater. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> FINAL EVENT FOR 2015 • BASKETBALL CLASSIC November 27, 2015 Easton High School 5:00 p.m. 4 SCHOL ARSHIP RECIPIENTS 2015 The Moton Alumni Association has awarded three one thousand dollar scholarships to three students at Easton High School. for 2015 The students who received our scholarship are: • Joy Coleman has enrolled at Wesley College in Dover, DE., BASKETBALL CLASSIC Friday, November 27,2015 Games for the evening: 5:00 p.m. Easton Middle School I VS Caroline Middle School All Stars • Admir Handy has enrolled at the University of Maryland in Princess Anne, Maryland 6:00 p.m. Easton Middle School II VS TSM All Stars • Alecia Hall has enrolled at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, MD. 7:00 p.m. Lady Shore Tigers VS Wicomico Women All Stars >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
