Autumn 2014 - Stillwater Yacht Club
The Stillwater Cove’er
September–November — Volume 14, Issue 3
COMMODORE’S REPORT
September–November 2014
SYC has had a busy, exciting
year with great feedback from
our membership. We have had
record usage of our water sports
equipment, increased member signup for sailing lessons and sell out
attendance at our social events.
The summer offered two new
events; the Ports of Call Winepairing Dinner and the Blue Agave
Vertical Tasting Dinner. I would
like to thank Director David Day for
planning the Ports of Call event
and SYC member Terry Baldwin
for the Blue Agave event. Both
received rave reviews from those in
attendance. A special thanks goes to
Chef Elias for preparing outstanding
menus for both. We also hosted the
48th annual Santanarama the first
weekend in August.
August ended with the annual
Labor Day Regatta. This Mercury
class regatta has been held every

Lobster Fest Dinner
Saturday, September 20, 2014 • Four o’clock
Mark your calendars for the not–tobe-missed Lobster Fest, which will
be held on the Stillwater Cove pier on
Saturday, September 20!
The reception with Cajun music
begins at 4 pm. Dinner will be rolled
onto the tables promptly at 5 pm.
Those of you who have attended
in the past know the whole table is
served in one fell swoop, which is
part of the fun!
The Cajun Coastal Catering menu includes a 1½ pound lobster per
person, Cajun boiled shrimp and sausage, potatoes, corn on the cob,
artichoke, roasted garlic, French bread and dessert. Wine, beer and water
will be served. Dress casually, put on your bib, dive in, enjoy a great meal
and have a good laugh with your tablemates and fellow members.
The cost is $85 per member, all-inclusive and $95 per non-member
guest. (Non-member guests will be wait–listed and confirmed after
September 15). As this event is not catered by the Beach Club, it may not
be charged to your Beach Club, account as others have been this year. The
Lobster Fest is becoming our most popular event so mail your response
card with your check as soon as possible after receiving your invitation to
ensure yourself a place at the table!
Commodores’s Ball
Friday, November 14, 2014
Half past six o’clock
Commodore Kay Sullivan requests the pleasure of
your company at the Stillwater Yacht Club’s Commodore’s Ball, a night for
evening gowns and tuxedos. This elegant affair will begin with a champagne
and wine reception, followed by a three-course meal in the Beach Club
Dining Room. While you are enjoying dessert, the Annual Member’s
Meeting of the Stillwater Yacht Club will take place and next year’s Board of
Directors will be elected. Following adjournment of the meeting you will
dance the night away to the ever-popular live music of the Joe Sharino Band.
Please check our website closer to the event for more details.

year since 1950. As
we round the second
marker, there is still
more fun to experience.
September ushers in our
best weather. To allow
our members to take
advantage of our beautiful
end-of-summer and early
fall weather, our sailboats,
kayaks and paddle-boards
will be available until the
first of October for an
extended season!
SYC’s social calendar
also has some notable
upcoming events. Back
by popular demand is
our Lobster Fest, which
will take place on the
pier on September 20.
On October 11 will be
our themed Pier Closing
BBQ. We round out 2014
with our final major event,
the Commodore’s Ball,
scheduled for Friday,
November 14. (Look for
details of these events in
this month’s Cove’er).
As you can see, our
club has offered more
options for social events
and water sports activities
than ever before and
now we are expanding to
a year-round calendar.
Based on record member
participation and
overwhelming positive
feedback, SYC is sailing on
the right course.
COVE’ER EDITOR WANTED!
Do you have an editorial eye?
A creative urge to exercise?
Interested in keeping our
members informed and
entertained? If so, the Cove’er
is looking for an editor to
oversee content beginning with
the first issue of 2015. Please
contact Staff Commodore
Richard Outten.
Since this will be my
last report, I want to thank
you for the opportunity
to serve as your
Commodore this year.
It has been a pleasure
working with a dedicated
Board of Directors and
an enthusiastic number
of volunteers. As an allvolunteer organization,
the participation of our
members is vital to our
continued success. Their
efforts, often behind the
scenes, are seen by few
but enjoyed by many. On
behalf of SYC, I would like
to personally recognize
their contributions!
