On April 13th more than 2,500 people
gathered to celebrate Pastor Hagee’s 73rd
birthday at the beautiful Cornerstone Church
retreat center in Tarpley, Texas. A Bar-B-Que
feast was served outdoors where music was
streaming and children were running from
one activity to the next as they simply enjoyed
a magnificent day in the beautiful Texas
sunshine.
The food was delicious and the fellowship was
sweet as church members and friends gathered
to have some good, clean fun and honor the
man whose vision has taken Cornerstone
Church across the globe by the grace of God.
Pastor Hagee was so deeply touched by the
outpouring of kindness and the many people
who made such a spectacular effort to come
and celebrate. And on his behalf, we would
like to extend his humble thanks for making
this special day one that he will remember for
many years to come. For the cards, gifts and
kind words, he simply says, “Thank you so
very, very much!”

Season
After 30 successful episodes, Pastor Matt, along with his
faithful on-set friends and producers, celebrated their very
first season of “The Difference.” This Christian talk show
is geared toward today’s younger generation, and offers
practical tips on how to infuse the Word of God into your
everyday life. There are many fun jokes and pranks along the
way, but the bottom line is that we are all here to serve one
purpose; to bring honor to the King of kings and Lord of
lords.
If you have not seen this show, you need to stop what you’re

“How many of you want your kid to grow up to be just
like you?” I asked.
As I surveyed the room of almost 100 adults sitting there
attending the Ministry of Reconciliation Encounter not
one hand was raised in the air. I watched as a woman
carefully wedged both of her hands under her legs to
sit on them while her head was slowly shaking, “no.” It
seemed very important, almost urgent for her that she
somehow needed to make certain she did not accidently
let her hand up into the air. She definitely did not want
her children to grow up to be like her.
My question had struck a nerve, not only with the woman
who was now carefully sitting on both of her hands, but
with each individual in the room. Etched across each
face was deep concern as each of the adults contemplated
that their children might possibly grow up to be like
them. It was clear; nobody wanted their child to grow
up to be like them.
“That is the same response that I have received from the
10,000 people that have attended this conference prior
to you.” “Nobody wants their child to grow up to be like
them. We all want our children to grow up to be better
than us. We don’t want our kids to make the same stupid
mistakes that we have made. We don’t want them to be
hurt in the same ways in which we have been hurt. Do
we?”
Every head in the room was nodding slowly in agreement
with my statement. A few were even biting their lower lip.
“But I have a word from the Lord for you. Your kids are
going to grow up to be scary like you.” “You, through
your actions, have set what is normal for your kids. They
don’t know any different and they will grow up to be very
similar to you even if they are swearing that they will
not.”
A man loudly exhaled looked upward and closed his eyes
as he grimaced at my statement and the thought of his
actions being repeated by his own children. This clearly
troubled many of the people sitting there. The woman
sitting on her hands now held one of her hands over her
mouth in astonishment. A couple of people were simply

reeling at the revelation as the truth hit home.
I continued, “And what so many parents do is try to
change their kids to keep them from making the same
mistakes they made. But, the truth is you can only
change you. Trying to change your kid will cause offense
and make your child feel like you believe everything is
their fault. It will put barriers into your relationship with
your child.”
“So if you want your kid to become better, but your kid
is going to grow up to be like you, it demands that you
become better. You can only change you.” “Change the
only person that you can change and your kids will see
the difference. Your kids will see the change in you when
you humble yourself and it will draw their heart to you,
no longer feeling like everything is their fault.”
“But what if your kids are already gone from home?” a
lady asked.
“It does not matter. It is never too late to repent. It is
never too late to humble yourself before God or reconcile
with your loved ones,” I replied. “I have seen the most
hurtful and hopeless situations where there was nothing
but seething hatred turned into deep, lasting love by God
through this ministry. I have seen the worst of enemies
become the best of friends. I have seen the heart of
the fathers turned to the children and the heart of the
children turned to the fathers. It is never too late so long
as we have the breath of life in us on this earth. You can
always change you and it does not require anybody else’s
participation.”
As I stood there that day I reflected back on my own
story. As a child my dad had left us 20 to 30 times in
about a two year period. Each time he came home and
left us, we were more hurt than the time before. After
that two years were over, he left and stayed gone. It was
like he fell off the face of the earth. There was no contact.
He was just gone.
Back then as the hurt child I began to say, “I’ll never be
like him. I don’t need him anyway.” I was thirteen years
old when I began to say these things and I continued to
say them for years. I was the child saying that I would
never grow up to be like my dad; but the truth is I
grew up to be like him in so many ways.
As I stood at the Encounter that day I asked the
group, “How many of you used to say something like,
‘I’ll never be like him or her, or I will never do that
to my kids, or I will never put up with that type of
treatment’, or some such ‘never’ statement?”
Almost every hand was in the air this time.
“So none of you want your child to grow up to be like
you, but virtually all of you used to swear that you
would never become like your parent. Now, I want
to know how many of you became like your parent in
many ways in spite of swearing that you would not?”
Again almost every hand was in the air.
“So you used to be the offended child. You swore
you would not be like your parent, but by your own
admission you became like them in many ways. But,
now you are hoping that your kids will not make the
same mistake and become like you. So basically, you
are somehow hoping that what did not work for you
is going to somehow work for your kids?”
If you are reading this article I want you to know you
can do more than hope. You can change. Let it begin
with you. Stop trying to fix your kids. Ask God to
change you. Ask Him to show you your sin. Ask
Him to show you what to do.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek,
and you will find; knock, and it
will be opened to you.”
– Matthew 7:7 (NKJV)
God wants to answer your prayer. He wants to show
you what is wrong and how to fix it. Ask Him. He
might use this next Encounter to show you how.

What Lies Do We Believe?
for Significance –

W
e should all want to live with a Biblical worldview.
However, a secular worldview is always trying to push
its way into our thinking. It is a constant ongoing
spiritual battle. We need to push back the secular worldview.
When we don’t push back, that’s when we start to look a lot
like the world. It’s all about our thinking. Our actions - the
things we do – are a result of our thinking. So much of our
thinking is about how we see ourselves and how we think
others see us. In truth, our thinking needs to be guided by
how God sees us.
Cornerstone offers a class, Search for Significance, that helps
us to see ourselves the way God sees us. The class presents
an understanding of self based on what God has said about
us in His Word instead of our performance and the approval
of others.
Did you know that it is almost impossible for a human being
to walk by a mirror and not look at themselves? Did you
know that when you are giving a photo to someone and their
picture is in it with a group of people that the very first person
that they look at is themselves?
Did you realize that how you view yourself is pivotal in the
quality of your life and the quality of your relationships?
We’re all asking and answering questions about ourselves,
sometimes they’re about physical things about us, like when
we look in the mirror, but more often they’re emotional and
psychological. Some of the questions we’re asking are “Who
am I? Where do I belong? Do I fit? Am I okay? Am I competent?
Am I a somebody? Am I significant? What are other people
going to think of me?” So let me ask you, “when you look at
the mirror what do you think?”
We often fall victim to four false beliefs. If we believe these
lies from Satan, our distorted thinking will cause us to be
deceived about God’s plan for our lives and what He wants
to accomplish in us and through us. We need to know the
Biblical solutions to combat these lies.

The first lie we often believe is the performance trap.
It
says that my value depends on what I can do. You’ve got to be
good. You got to be successful. You got to be a great athlete.
You got to be a great student. You got to be a great artist. You
got to be a great this, a great that. You got to be able to do, do,
do, do, do. And so your whole life, your whole value revolves
around your performance. If you do well, you’re great. If you
don’t do well, you’re a loser. Unfortunately, there are many
times in life when we don’t perform up to our potential. That
does not make us any less significant in God’s eyes. We must
learn to see ourselves as He sees us. We learn how He does see
us through what He tells us in His Word.
The second
false belief, is about the need for the
approval of others. We think that our value depends on what
other people think of us. So we dress, talk, drive, buy, go to
certain groups, don’t go to certain groups, eat certain things,
don’t eat certain things, but why? Because it matters what
everybody thinks. When we believe this lie, our relationships,
goals and objectives in life become skewed and out of focus.
We try to please others rather than focusing on pleasing God.
Often our family relationships suffer when we are workaholics
more focused on performance and approval as our means of
feeling significant.
The third false belief, the blame game, focuses on our need
to find whom to blame and punish. When life is not going our
way, we look for someone to blame. Often the best candidate
is ourselves. We can become experts at beating ourselves
up about our failures, both past and present. If we aren’t
blaming ourselves, we can usually very quickly find someone
else to blame. If we don’t get a raise or a promotion, it’s the
boss’s fault, or my subordinate’s fault for not supporting me,
or whatever. Our next candidate to blame is God. We often
blame God when things are not turning out right. We never
stop to consider who ultimately determines “what is right for
us.”
The fourth and last of the false beliefs is called shame and
hopelessness. It says: “I am what I am. I cannot change. I am
hopeless.” This is a deadend street that goes nowhere. People
who get caught up in this self pity lie often find themselves
sinking in depression and hopelessness and can see no escape.
Fortunately God is a God of fresh starts. Every morning we get
up is a fresh start. Every day is a gift to us and it is up to us how
we chose to use the gift we are given.
God is in the change business. It all starts with a relationship
with Jesus. The Bible says we become a new creation in Christ
when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. God has a perfect
plan for our lives… He just needs us to participate in it with
Him.
Until we see ourselves as God sees us, we are destined to
feel inferior. We need to realize that it’s really about how God
looks at us, as the true mirror of who I really am, that my value
doesn’t depend on how good I am, my value doesn’t depend
on how I look, and my value doesn’t depend on what other
people think. Until we get free of those things, we are destined
to feel inferior.
I believe everyone feels inferior in some way. Inferiority just
wears multiple masks. So we’re all insecure, we all have this
feeling that something’s wrong. So some people will be shy,
withdrawn to cover their insecurity, their low self-esteem.
They think, “I’m not worth much, No one wants to hear me,
I probably wouldn’t do very well, I know they won’t like me.”
But there’s another group of people who can be just as
desperately insecure. They say “ I’ve got it together, I’m going
to be on top of this.” They’re powerful, they’re aggressive, they
say, “I know where I’m going and know how I’m going to get
there.” George Steinbrenner, owner of the New York Yankees
once said, “Lead, follow or get out of the way.” – a strong
personality no doubt.

stories from John Travis, one of the
men responsible for helping with
The Ark, our newest addition to
Cornerstone Church.
This month’s theme was “Tool
Time.” We had great fun laughing at
what we did (and didn’t) know how
to do with the wood in our shop,
while enjoying a delicious manly
steak and potatoes dinner.
God wants us to have a healthy, Biblical identity, a Biblical
world view.
We need to be able to see ourselves as God sees us. Jesus
said, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
If you don’t know the truth about you, you’ll believe the lies.
But knowing the truth doesn’t change your life. You have to
believe God’s view is true for you before it will change your life.

Cornerstone was host to
the first chapter meeting
of the
NHCLC
(National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference)
I
glesia Cornerstone hosted the first chapter meeting of the
National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NJCLC)
with more than 115 pastors and leaders in attendance.
These leaders represented various denominations from all
over the city of San Antonio. Several topics were targeted
along with issues that are essential to ministering in local
areas: teens, hunger, immigration, church growth and media.
During our lunch break a media session was conducted
discussing the relevance of media in today’s ministry. It
was entertaining and challenging at the same time as we
presented our theme of “The Lamb’s agenda.” (Not the
donkey or the elephant, but the Lamb’s agenda.)
Each presentation throughout the conference was
well-presented and the pastors in attendance were
complimentary of our efforts.
The overall purpose of this conference was to bring practical
and spiritual change to San Antonio. With the Lord’s help
and the unity of these pastors, we will work towards
achieving this great task.
The seven areas that the NHCLC is currently targeting are:
education, youth, stewardship, family, evangelism, justice
and life. Each of these issues is important and we are
confronting them head-on as we continue to pray for revival
in our city and the nation. May God continue to be honored
in all that we do!
As this semester draws to an end, we celebrate what we have been
able to see on the college campuses of St. Mary’s University, UTSA,
Northwest Vista and San Antonio College. At least twice a month,
we have gathered on one of these campuses to share the Gospel
of hope to hundreds of students representing countries around the
world. These Nights of Worship are student-led and student-initiated
from within the Cornerstone College Ministry. We have witnessed
the power of God touching Christians, Muslims and Atheists in lifechanging ways. Although there is reason to celebrate, we understand
that the mission is far from complete. Our goal is to take the whole
Gospel to the whole community of colleges within our city. Join us
in prayer for “Cornerstone On Campus” student organizations that
will be starting the fall of 2013 at Incarnate Word, Palo Alto College
and Trinity University. If you are a student or faculty member of
any of these schools and are interested in helping to host a chapter
organization, please contact our office today.
We would like to welcome Pastor Nelson and Liza Solares as our
new Campus Ministry coordinators. They have been pastors in the
Dallas area for a number of years with great success and now join
our growing ministry. Pastor Nelson will be leading the charge in
starting new student organizations on college campuses as well as
offering ministerial support to existing “Cornerstone On Campus”
chapters. We are excited for what God will do through them for the
college and career students of our church and the city. The College
and Career students are going to love Nelson and Liza.
College and Career young adults, our weekly services are on
Tuesday nights in the Praise Center at 7:00 p.m. Invite your
friends from work or school and other young adults from around the
city to join us as we seek the Lord for revival. We will continue
to join Joshua’s Generation Adoration, the second Tuesday of
each month as part of our weekly meetings. Don’t miss out
on what the Lord is doing!

Lucy and I are overjoyed at the opportunity to be the new College
and Career Pastors. We would like to thank both Pastor John Hagee
and Pastor Matthew Hagee for this special opportunity. We are here
to pray, love and support you in any way possible. It is our hope to
connect with every college and career young adult in an even more
personal way.

Soul wounds – a wounded soul is as real as wounded flesh.
One way you can identify those wounds is if a memory of an
incident still brings pain – so much so that you prefer “not to
go there” – that’s a wound in your soul. Sometimes the wounds
are so deep that a person may need special ministry to receive
healing. Fortunately we are blessed at Cornerstone to have
the Ministry of Reconciliation which ministers to those with
deeply wounded souls. We all need to deal with the wounds
caused by others in our souls – whether they were caused intentionally or unintentionally. We must come to a place where
we choose to forgive those who have wounded us. On the
other hand we must be willing to consider the possibility that
we have caused wounds, and usually in those we love the most.
The most common way a soul becomes wounded is by words –
hurtful words. You know the old saying, “sticks and stones may
break my bones but words will never hurt me?” It’s not true.
Sometimes the words may be angry and accusatory tirades
coming from bitterness or hatred or even vengeance – these
are easier to recognize. But sometimes they may be hurtful
remarks – making someone the bunt of a joke or a put down.
Our intention may not be to cause deep hurts and we may have
no idea our words could possibly cause such wounds. But the
reality is our words can be hurtful – even when joking around.
God expects us to not only ask His forgiveness but He expects
His children – who are to act like their Dad – to go to the person, apologize and ask their forgiveness, Matt. 5:23-24. The
same way you would apologize and ask forgiveness if you unintentionally hurt someone physically – say you bumped into
someone accidentally and they fell. If you’ve been convicted
of saying something hurtful to anyone you need to follow the
prompting of the Holy Spirit. God requires action from us –
not just praying away the hurts.

I
have the honor of hosting a woman’s
discipleship class at Cornerstone
Church the first Tuesday of each
month. This is an evening of godly
fellowship as nearly 500 of us gather
around beautifully-decorated banquet
tables to share a gourmet meal, to laugh
and to support one another while learning
from God’s Word. We have a great time
of communion with each other and come
away being refreshed by the Holy Spirit!
One of my recent teachings was on the
topic “I am Woman!” I taught this with
a team of ladies and the results were lifechanging for many in the class. For that
reason I thought I should share them with
you. Hopefully they will enrich your life as
well, and I pray that you share them with
those women who are near and dear to
your heart.
Remember this truth: God has designed
you to be a King’s Daughter! You are
royalty, an heir and joint-heir with Jesus
Christ!
As women, we wear numerous hats, have
countless responsibilities and possess
unique talents. God, our Father has
individually designed us to be His vessels
of honor. We are purposed to be victorious
in this life no matter what our assignment
might be while we are here on earth. I
ask that you follow me through this brief
journey to discover how special you really
are!

The first teaching was presented by Vicki
Pauli, leader of our weekly Woman’s
Intercession and Bible Study. Her topic
was the Godly Woman in the Home.
Every woman who works in the home
has a tremendous responsibility to both
family and friends. Allow me to share five
special principles to help you succeed in
your assignment. The acronym for these
principles is F.E.A.S.T.
F - stands for fellowship with God,
family and friends.
E - stands for eternal perspective.
A - stands for an atmosphere
of worship.
S - stands for submission.
T - stands for trust.
The word “Feast” means to eat
sumptuously, to partake in something that
is abundantly enjoyed; highly agreeable,
to dwell with gratification and delight;
something giving great pleasure and
satisfaction. As King’s Daughters we
should “feast” on daily life; it is a gift from
God.
Now that we have laid the groundwork,
let’s learn how we can implement these
tools into our lives as a godly woman in
the home.
Fellowship
The Word of God declares that Abraham
was a friend of God; Moses spoke with
God and God spoke to Moses. Believers
must speak to God about our innermost
thoughts, needs and desires. We must
also trust that He listens and that He will
answer.
Life it too short not to enjoy family and
friends; think of it…there are people who
have neither. Don’t let one more day go
by without telling your loved ones that
you care. Believers must love one another
and dwell together in unity in order to be
part of the Body of Christ and receive the
Father’s blessing. Let’s begin at home. Live
every day in fellowship with God, family
and friends, and you will make your home
a true sanctuary for the Holy Spirit.
We proclaim to you what we have
seen and heard, so that you also
may have fellowship with us. And
our fellowship is with the Father and
with His Son, Jesus Christ. We write
this to make our joy complete.
1 John 1:3-4
Eternal Perspective
First and most importantly, your family
should be your greatest priority right after
following God’s will for your life. When
my husband or children call me with a
need, I rearrange my schedule and come
to their aid. It is my godly assignment as
a wife and mother. My efforts on their
behalf have eternal perspective.
When my friend needs prayer, I immediately stop what I am doing and pray.
My prayer in the name of Jesus can move
mountains, heal the sick and deliver the
oppressed; it has eternal perspective.
Time with the Lord has eternal perspective. Prioritizing your day in terms of an
everlasting viewpoint helps to produce
creative and sustaining results. Life is too
short to worry about things that don’t
matter.
Remember this truth: God, family and
friends matter!
“Do not store up for yourselves
treasures on earth, where moths and
vermin destroy, and where thieves
break in and steal. But store up
for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where moths and vermin do not
destroy, and where thieves do not
break in and steal. For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be
also.”
Matthew 6:19-21
Atmosphere of Worship
I can testify that praising the Lord has
taken me through some of the deepest
valleys in my life. The Word promises that
God inhabits the praises of His people.
Through praise, the Lord leads us to the
mountain top of every day. What more
could we ask of Him?
Remember these truths: The Word of God
is filled with promises. Life is filled with
problems. Our praise to God brings forth
His provision. When you can no longer
pray…praise the Lord for He is good and
His mercies endure forever!
As women in the home we are faced
with many challenges from helping to
balance a budget, kissing a wounded knee,
coaching little league, attending PTA
meetings, maintaining a home, preparing
the meals but most importantly creating
an atmosphere of praise. Praise to God
produces hope, joy and peace.
My Jewish friends pray a prayer of thanks
for the day before they go to bed. When
they rise they praise the Lord for guarding
them through the night. They praise Him
for His provision, for the food on the table,
for the breath in their lungs and so much
more. Determine to create an atmosphere
of worship in your home, it will make it a
sanctuary of praise where all will want to
enter in.
“Let my mouth be filled
with Your praise and with
Your glory all the day.”
Remember this truth: No one is perfect.
Sooner or later someone in our inner
circle will fail us. What then? Do we throw
in the towel and never trust again? Do we
become paranoid and wait for others to
fail? Do we hide in our homes and refuse
to interact with others? Of course not!
We continue to trust and we begin by
trusting God, our Father. Life will not
always be trustworthy but God will never
fail us.
To become an effectual woman of God in
the home you must trust God daily and
believe that He is ever-faithful. In doing so
you can make wise choices that will allow
you to walk in the path He has exclusively
designed for you! Trust in God!
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is
good; blessed is the man who trusts
in Him!
Psalm 34:8

Submission
Remember this truth: obedience brings
blessings.
Submission means to comply with. When
we conform to (observe and obey) God’s
instruction which is clearly recorded in His
Word, divine blessings will be our reward.
It is my desire that you become a Godly
woman in the home. When you stop to
think about it we are all women in the
home no matter how many jobs we have
outside of it. Feast on the good things of
God and all that He affords us through His
grace and mercy.
The Word of God is dynamic, it gives me
what I need at the time that I need it. If
I have need of healing, Christ provides
what His Word promises... the restoration
of my body. If I need protection, Christ
is my Shield. If I need guidance, He is my
Shepherd.
As I submit to His voice and obey His
mandates, God will bless my life with
abundance. Submit yourself to God and
His delegated authority and He will fill
your life with good things.
“As the Father loved me, I also have
loved you; abide in My love. If you
keep My commandments, you will
abide in my love, just as I have kept
My Father’s commandments and
abide in His love.”

What would life be without trust?
Completely chaotic!
We trust our physicians that their
diagnoses are accurate. We trust our
pharmacist that the medications they
prepare for us are done so with utmost
accuracy. We trust our banks that they will
keep our life’s savings secure. We trust the
pilot of the plane we fly in that his skill will
keep us safe. We trust in countless things
everyday, but do we trust in God?
We will begin our study of the Book
of Exodus in September. Please mark
your calendars for our next Naomi/
Ruth Discipleship class.

y wife Lana and I were high school sweethearts.
We married a month after she graduated from
high school, and this summer we will celebrate
our 46th wedding anniversary in July.
enjoying a wonderful retirement after serving for many
years at John Hagee Ministries, and I am more in love
with Lana today than I have ever been because Christ
working through me has made me a better person.
I tend to divide our marriage into two time periods:
without Christ and with Christ. The first 19 I would call
“by the grace of God.” You see, in the first 19 years of our
marriage we never once walked into a church, opened a
Bible or prayed. I can look back at it now and I know that
it was by the grace of God that we remained together.
If you have never been a part of a small group Bible
Study, I would encourage you to call and join one in your
area today. Discover the difference that Christ can make
in your own life.
In 1985, the Air Force moved us from Germany to
Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Not long
after moving, Lana was flipping through TV channels and
landed on Christian Television. For the first time in her
life she heard about the life-changing power of Jesus. She
gave her life to Christ that night and was the catalyst to
leading myself and our two children to the Lord. She saw
Pastor Hagee on TV and we began attending the church
and then a home Bible Study.

Ministries
Early Childhood Ministries is dedicated to ministering
to the spiritual and physical needs of children 8 weeks
through Kindergarten by providing a safe and caring
environment. During your child’s stay with us your child
will be taught about the love of God, His Son Jesus
and the Holy Spirit. We believe it is important to begin
nurturing a child’s faith at birth, and work diligently to
create a feeling of acceptance, security, and joy in our
classrooms. Carefully trained teachers will help your child
feel welcome and loved, so each visit to Cornerstone
can be a positive experience. We feel it is a very special
ministry to receive your precious children. We are the
arms of Jesus extended.

Your child will be provided with basic biblical training, praise songs
and verse memorization. During your child’s morning they will
have a lesson, art time, video time, free play and a snack.
3 YEAR OLDS – Kindergarten Age – 1st Floor of The Ark
(3’s and 4’s) 2nd Floor of the Ark for 5 year olds and
Kindergarten Age Children.
At this age, your child will participate in *Wee Worship. They will
also have a Bible lesson, scripture memorization, arts and crafts,
free play and a snack.
*Wee Worship
Wee Worship is an exciting age related worship and teaching
service for 3-year-olds through Kindergarten age children. Through
the use of puppets, drama, songs and multimedia your child will
become biblically knowledgeable and spiritually mature for their
age of development.
HOPE program – A class for children with
special needs ages 2 years – 8 years old.
During their stay they will have a Bible
lesson, arts and crafts, free play and a snack.
The HOPE program is available during all Sunday services.
Sunday Evenings – 6:30 PM
Early Childhood Ministries provides classes for children 8 weeks
through Kindergarten during the Sunday Evening Services in the
North Nursery and in The Ark.
JOYFUL NOISE CHOIR
Joyful Noise is a choir program for 4 and 5 year olds. Joyful Noise
meets during the Sunday Evening Service in The Ark. During the
choir program the children will have a Bible teaching and will
practice songs for a Sanctuary performance. Joyful Noise performs
throughout the year.

n April 18th the Cornerstone Church Daycare and Mother’s Day Out
programs combined forces of the tiny kind and rode every type of “float”
(AKA bicycle, scooter, wagon) around the inside of The Ark to celebrate
Fiesta. Though it was raining outside, nothing would dampen the spirits of these
tiny tots as they wound their way through The Ark with their Fiesta hats and
brightly-adorned Fiesta garb. With horns blaring, maracas shaking and streamers
floating, these tiny members of Cornerstone had a blast driving around in their
very own parade. Viva Fiesta!

Excitement filled our children’s services as every child

Childhood ministries has laid an incredible foundation upon
which we will to continue to build.
My team and I consider it an absolute honor to serve the

Our renowned VBS is cranking up the music with this
year’s theme PRAISE HYMN. Each fun-filled day will be
packed with excitement as we experience God through
timeless hymns like “Amazing Grace,” “Great is Thy

over 2,000 children learning the power of Jesus’ Grace,
Faithfulness and Blood.

Our summer kid’s camp is for children 3rd – 5th grade. We
offer a four-day camp held at our beautiful Tarpley Retreat
Center. Each day includes games, sports and parties,
but most of all, powerful services in which the children

campus in Sydney, Australia before recently moving to their
new NYC campus.

GenerationWON Kids is proud to present its new series
entitled “Fruit of the Spirit.” Beginning June 2nd, our
elementary students will take a 9-Week journey through
each and every fruit of the Spirit. Children will meet new
and exciting characters, play memory games, earn prizes,
collect fruit cards, earn buttons, and so much more during
this series. During the 10:00 a.m. Small Group hour, children
will be given a card to memorize, and if they return the next
week with the card memorized they will earn their fruit
button for that particular fruit.

ucy and I are thankful for the opportunity to lead
such an exceptional and important ministry as the
new High School Ministry Pastors. It is our passion
to see students grow in their walk with the Lord in an even
greater and more powerful way. We can’t wait to personally
meet more students and parents as we partner together
in believing for God’s very best that will affect us all in a
life-changing way. We are committed to creating a positive,
spiritual and enjoyable atmosphere that will encourage
young people to grow and express their faith to an even
greater degree. We also want to thank Pastor John Hagee
and Pastor Matt Hagee for this wonderful opportunity to
lead the spiritual lives of our High School students.
Judges 2:10, “After that whole generation had been
gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up,
who knew neither the Lord nor what they had done for
Israel.”
Joshua’s generation possessed knowledge about God, but
did not know Him intimately, which caused their spiritual
life to crumble. The Youth Ministry team of Cornerstone
Church refuses to allow this to reoccur within this present
generation. It is our hope that our current students (and
the friends they invite) experience a dynamic love and the
power of the Holy Spirit upon their lives in a deeper way,
that they would learn now the value and importance of
falling in love with God and becoming life-long followers
of Christ.
Young people and parents, in order to accomplish this, we
are asking you to partner with us in at least three areas. First,
we ask you to partner with us in prayer. Nothing great and
sustaining occurs without prayer. We are confident that as
we pray for students and leaders, God will send revival and
this ministry will be radically impacted. Secondly, we invite
you to partner with us in your attendance. There are many
exciting things to be a part of; don’t miss out. The summer
is too short to not take advantage of the positive influences
and events geared towards growing into the warrior God
wants us to be. For example, Evoke Youth Camp (June
24th-27th) is quickly approaching, and promises to be the
best week of your life. Thirdly, partner with us through
your “inviting.” You are the key to growing this ministry
and we encourage you to let your family and friends know
about all the great things that will be taking place here this
summer. Our House Parties, Amped Nights, Cadre groups
and powerful Sunday Youth Services are wonderful ways to
get plugged in. These are easy opportunities to invite your
friends to come and be a part of something great. There
is a place for everyone to get involved. Partnering with us
in prayer, attendance, and inviting others will catapult this
ministry to greater heights.

I
f you’ve gone to the movies recently you’ve probably noticed
superheros have made a serious come back. If you’re a parent,
an educator or anyone who works with kids you’ve noticed
these characters are not only in the theaters, but they now adorn
shoes, hats, shirts, backpacks and lunchboxes. No matter who
the superhero is or what things they can do, all heroes follow the
same general pattern. They all seem to...
1. ...have special powers
2. ...care for others, especially those who are defenseless
3. ...have a moment in which they are tempted to use their
abilities for personal gain
4. ...get the bad guy in the end
Let’s take a look at what we can do to ensure there is a hero in
our house.
First, we need to remind ourselves and our children that we
don’t do things on our own strength. God has given us His
grace. Just insert the word “ability” every time you read the word
“grace” in the Bible. It will bring the concept of grace to life in a
different way. Further, we read in Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive
power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall
be witnesses...” We are given power not as some sideshow act.
This power we have is given specifically to carry God’s agenda to
the world. This power comes in the form of receiving His grace,
asking for His anointing and seeking the baptism in the Holy
Spirit. These are three great prayers to pray over your children.
Second,
heroes care for those who can’t help nor defend
themselves. James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father
accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and
widows in their distress.” We need to encourage our children to
watch out for others. Teach them to be willing to come to the
defense and aid of those who are being hurt. I can remember
my mother directly teaching me on this very point. She said to
me, “Jerry, in life if you ever see someone in an accident or being
hurt in any way, you get yourself involved in a hurry and when
doing so, give no thought of yourself. This world is too full of
people being busy about their own plans.” This exact sentiment
is echoed in the story of the good Samaritan in Luke 10.
telling them constantly they are the greatest, smartest, fastest,
or best is perhaps well-intentioned, but unhealthy. Recently
published research revealed American children are among the
most confident children in the world. However, when these
same children were tested academically, the results revealed
they scored among the lowest. So we have children who think
they are right and can do anything, but the reality is they cannot.
The point here is that we have forgotten the value of humility by
confusing it with humiliation. Again, two very different things.
James quotes Old Testament scripture and writes in 4:6, “God
opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Knowing
God and knowing we are made in His image is a message that
instantly builds us up, while keeping us humble.
Lastly,
and perhaps the coolest part of being and making a
superhero is realizing, in the end, WE WIN! We need to help
children understand that there is more to this world than what
they may see. Now we don’t need to get it to the point where
they think there is demon behind every tree or an angel behind
every church steeple. However, we do need to help them
understand that our enemy takes various forms. Ephesians 6:12
states, “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness
of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly
places.” We quickly follow this up though by reading 1 John 4:4
which states, “...greater is He that is in you than he that is in the
world.” As a Christian we may have rough days, but I believe that
understanding and living a victorious life can too quickly be
forgotten.
Let’s shift gears from hero worship to hero building. Doing this
though is first a challenge to our walk with Christ. Are you a hero
of the faith yourself? Like breeds like. God desires for all of us
to know there is a hero and champion inside those who have
accepted Christ. Use the power that heaven has placed at your
disposal. Show love and compassion for the lost and defenseless.
Live a life of humility and objectivity. However remember, in the
end we will win! Emphasizing these four points will help make
sure there’s a hero in the house.
Thirdly, it seems every superhero has a moment in which they
realize who they are and what they can do. It is in this moment
they are often tempted to use those abilities for personal gain.
Our response to this should be to remind our children of the
message of humility. A casual review of the messages sent to
our children by the media and society today would reveal a
distorted, bloated, fluffy message that elevates the child to
near rockstar status. Should children have a solid self-esteem?
You bet! However, knowing who I am in Christ, and thinking I
am the greatest gift to all I come in contact with are two very
different things. There is a right way to encourage a child, but

In Drawing Camp, students will learn
two-dimensional techniques that will
help them create a look of realism.
This is a step that fosters the growth
of many a budding young artist
and without this skill it keeps them
from realizing their own abilities.
In Pottery Camp, students learn the
techniques that are necessary for
building clay sculptures with a taste
of using a potter’s wheel. As time
permits, students will glaze some of
their works.
Two hours of full activity goes by
faster than we want it to! Each artist
will be challenged at their individual
skill level, and will be able to grow
toward the potential that lies within
them. The $90.00 fee includes all
necessary art supplies, a light snack,
and a camp t-shirt for those who
register by the end of May.

itting on the couch in the elementary principal’s office
between his parents, Jaden Davila looks small in his oversized,
bright orange t-shirt. He’s looking toward the windows and
his ears perk up as he hears the cars outside arranging themselves
into afternoon carline. He walks over to take a peek. Raul Davila,
Jaden’s father, better known as Ronnie, follows Jaden across the
room with his eyes, clearly used to watching out for his son’s
every move. Elizabeth, Jaden’s mother, sits misty-eyed opposite
her husband. The sheer emotion of the day has tears welling up in
her eyes – not for what isn’t, but for the miracle that is. The small,
five-year-old boy that just walked to the windows is a miracle.
He’s her miracle. He’s Ronnie’s miracle.
In early December of 2012, Jaden began complaining of aches
and pains in his hands and knees. The pains in his joints caused
him to scream in agony often prohibiting his ability to walk or use
his hands. The pains were sporadic and most of the time didn’t
last very long. His parents, like most parents would, chalked it up
to growing pains.
Elizabeth took Jaden to
the doctor for lack of any
further ideas to treat his
pain. The doctor’s first guess
was childhood rheumatoid
arthritis. He took some
blood samples from the
then 4-year-old, and told
Elizabeth she’d hear back in
a week or so. The very next
day, December 12, 2012,
Ronnie received a call at
work. Leukemia. That’s all Ronnie heard on the other end of the
phone. He ran out of his office at USAA with co-workers running
after him. The only thing on Ronnie’s mind is getting to his son.
His instinct to hold his child, to somehow protect him from this
disease, overpowers any logical thinking at the moment.
Tylenol, ice packs and hugs were prescribed to treat his aches.
These treatments helped for a while, but over a week’s time Jaden
was still crying out.
“I pulled up to the corner (by the school) and called the doctor
back, because before they told me the news I was already crying
at work. People were chasing me. My instinct was to go get Jaden.
So I pulled over and the nurse told me not to hang up that the
doctor needed to talk to me. The doctor said the oncologist at
the hospital are already waiting on you, they want you right
now,” Ronnie remembers as his eyes water and begin to focus on
nothing in particular.
“Usually I get him up. We get going. He started screaming and sure
enough his left index finger was just red and swollen; Ronnie said
‘That’s enough. I have to take him to the doctor’,” said Elizabeth.
Ronnie raced to Cornerstone Christian Schools where his
youngest son was learning, playing, oblivious. Ronnie made
desperate attempts to contact Elizabeth, who was currently

that doesn’t have leukemia. He’d just cry. We put ice and he’d feel
better,” said Elizabeth.

unaware of the tests results. Finally, she answered.
“I couldn’t get a hold of Liz. I’m calling and texting ‘911 call me
back’. She was freaking out. One of her colleagues had to take her
to the hospital.”
She doesn’t remember much from the conversation other than
being completely devastated and overcome with emotion, and
the co-worker shuffling her into a car and toward the hospital.
That day became a complete blur for Ronnie and Elizabeth. Jaden
had a complete examination re-done to confirm the diagnoses.
With deep regret, the children’s oncologist confirmed he had
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, commonly known as “ALL”. Two
days later, a Port-A-Cath was surgically implanted beneath his
breast and chemotherapy instantly began. Life as they once knew
it had completed changed.
The day that Jaden was diagnosed with leukemia will forever
be imprinted in the minds of Ronnie and Elizabeth. There are
four stages of treatment for the disease, plus treating any sideeffects the initial treatment causes. Nearly after taking about a
dozen combinations of chemotherapy drugs, multiple lumbar
punctures, several bone marrow aspirations, and a couple of
platelets and blood transfusions, Jaden hit remission on March 7,
2013. From that point on, he faces three more years of treatment
and must stay in remission before the oncologist will claim he is
cured.
Looking at their son, Ronnie and Elizabeth thought he’s too
young, he’s too small to endure something so big, but they were
immediately reminded that they serve an even bigger God. A God
who knew Jaden’s future before he was born. A God that planned
for Jaden to beat the disease so that he could be a living testament
for His Kingdom. Jaden’s parents express their deep appreciation
for where life had them at the time of Jaden’s diagnosis.
“That’s really what we needed was all the support. The prayers,”
said Elizabeth, regarding the overwhelming love they have
received from the CCS family and Cornerstone Church among
many others. Ronnie added that Mr. Whewell, elementary
principal, Mrs. Valdez, Jaden’s teacher, and Mrs. Leon, their oldest
son Elijah’s teacher, have been in constant contact and made this
phase more bearable.

has felt God‘s presence and
comfort throughout their journey.
“We give God all the glory and honor for healing Jaden, reviving
his spirits and energy and keeping us strong. Our trial is not easy
but God is in control, helping us through this one day at a time,”
said Elizabeth.
While in treatment, Jaden has spent most of his time at the
clinic, hospital or home. The strong drugs circulating in his
body to fight the disease also break down his immune system
making him more susceptible to any communicable illness.
Jaden’s classmates have tried to Skype with him via an iPad in
the classroom. Elizabeth and Ronnie laugh at how the first Skype
session resulted in Elizabeth chasing Jaden around the house and
the children letting her know that they were getting a tour of her
home instead of face-time with her son.
“At least the house was clean that day!” Ronnie quips.
On this day, April 17, 2013, in his oversized, bright orange
t-shirt, Jaden visits his school and his classmates for the first time
since Ronnie raced to pick him up on the day of his diagnosis.
It’s a special, doctor-approved visit, because on this day Jaden
celebrates his fifth birthday while in remission from leukemia.
His orange shirt matches that of his brother and mom and dad.
It matches the shirt of every student and faculty member of
Cornerstone Elementary. His orange shirt symbolizes leukemia
awareness and it symbolizes the celebration of a little boy who
God called to great things.
Ronnie looks at his son again, “I’m waiting for the day to see him
back in his uniform. Back at CCS.”
The Davila family is facing an unimaginable trial, one they wish
they weren’t going through. Their hearts have been shattered,
yet despite the pain God continues to show them His grace

JUNIOR RING CEREMONY
The 2013 Junior Ring Ceremony was held on Tuesday, March
19th in the Prayer Chapel at Cornerstone Church. This is a
Cornerstone Christian Schools tradition and the first step the
junior class will take towards recognition as the Senior Class of
2014. Fifty- five students were recognized as upcoming seniors
and challenged with the mantle of student leadership. During
the ceremony, parents were invited forward to pray a blessing
over their child for the success of their senior year as well as their
progress toward Christian adulthood.

Ariel Villarreal was named to the 2013-14 Sweetheart Court
on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Schertz Civic Center.
The Court will serve as ambassadors for the City of Schertz at local
and regional events. Candidates had to submit an application,
resumé, references and letters. They were judged on individual
interview, talent and evening wear. The winners received
scholarships and will be participating in various events throughout
the year. As part of her commitment, Ariel will serve over 200
hours of community service!

The National Honor Society
INDUCTIONS
2013 – 2014
NHS
The National Honor Society induction was held on April
9th. This year, five sophomores and 17 juniors were inducted
into the Bellator Chapter for Academic Year 2013 – 2014.
Our National Honor Society now has a total of 47 members.
This is the largest membership we have had at Cornerstone
Christian Schools!
NJHS
Twenty-three students were inducted into the National Junior
Honor Society Illumine Chapter for Academic Year 2013
– 2014. The addition of the new inductees brings the total
number of NJHS members to 35 representatives!
SHH
The Spanish Honor Society inducted five juniors and eight
sophomores to the Inca Chapter of Cornerstone Christian
Schools. Our “Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica” now has a
total of 25 active members.

Baylor In NYC
and I would do whatever it took for Baylor to be the place I spent
my undergrad career.
So, when you received your Baylor acceptance letter what were
you thinking?
I was SO excited and thrilled, words cannot fully describe it. I
remember coming home from basketball practice that January
afternoon and seeing a big envelope with my acceptance letter. It
was incredible. To know all my hard work paid off and that I would
be going to the school my heart was set on for three years was
an amazing feeling. Choosing to attend Baylor is one of the best
decisions I’ve ever made.
Jackie Fernandez, Class of 2010, found a love for all things
multi-media when she was in high school at CCS. She
loved, and still loves, music, movies, television and print
media. That love lead her to the Department of Film and
Digital Media at Baylor University, and from there, it
seems, she could go anywhere!
Jackie, how long did you attend CCS?
Before I begin, I would just like to say thank you for having me! I
love staying connect to CCS and I’m excited to share my college
experience with you. Now what was the question? Oh yes, CCS…
I attended CCS from kindergarten to 12th grade. Prior to attending
CCS, I was in the daycare at Cornerstone Church. I was pretty
much born and raised in Cornerstone, and I loved every minute of
it. I thought Cornerstone was a great place to grow up!
Did you always know you wanted to attend Baylor University?
I knew from sophomore year of high school that I wanted to attend
Baylor. I actually tagged along with my friend Sheryl Krock, who
was a CCS junior at the time, when she went on a college visit to
Baylor. Once I stepped on the campus, I fell in LOVE with Baylor.
I knew it was the place I wanted to be. It became my dream school

When did you know you wanted to do something with media?
My major is Film and Digital Media. To be honest, I was originally
coming to Baylor for Journalism. I feel like I’ve always been
interested in film and television, but it wasn’t until I attended
orientation at Baylor the summer before my freshman year that
I decided to change majors. I remember sitting in the room with
my parents just before meeting with my advisor and I was looking
through the majors Baylor had to offer. I saw film and digital
media, and immediately told my parents that I wanted
to change my major. They were kind of like wait, what
(laughing)? It was funny, but they supported my
change and I’ve loved being a film major ever since.
I’ve always loved the magic of television so that
was a big push for changing majors, and now
television is definitely the field I want to pursue.
I also saw that they had a program called Baylor
in New York which piqued my interest in the
major because I LOVE New York!
How did it feel the first time you stepped
into your first college class?
Oh my word, it was so nerve-wracking. I
didn’t know anyone and I remember being
nervous, but it all worked out. I met some
great friends in my classes and the very first
professor I had was great. College is so much
different than high school, but it’s all a matter
of how you adjust to classes and schedules.
You have had many accomplishments as a Baylor Bear!
What are you most proud of?
Wow that’s a tough one. I would probably say one of my projects
I’m most proud of is a music video I helped shoot this spring with
a great group of friends in my high-def studio class for Uproar
Records, Baylor’s record label. The artist is named Layne Lynch.
She’s such an awesome singer, and getting to create a music video
for her was an awesome and memorable experience.
I mentioned earlier that Baylor has a program called Baylor in New
York where students study for a semester in the Big Apple. Well,
I got into the program! I will go to New York City for the spring
2014 semester. And something else that is so close to my heart is
Student Foundation. This organization has really solidified my
place as a Baylor Bear, and I am extremely proud to represent my
school by serving in StuFu.
Did you know anything about the Baylor Student Foundation
prior to attending classes?
I had somewhat of an idea of what Student Foundation was all
about, but what really drew me to find more information about the
organization was the cool green & white striped jerseys I would see
some students wearing around campus. When I went to an interest
meeting for StuFu, I learned that those jerseys were just a perk to
being a part of an awesome organization. Student Foundation is all
about students serving Baylor in any way they can and adding their
mark to the Baylor legacy.
Why would an already busy student like yourself want to spend
extra time in something like Student Foundation?
I wanted to do something to give back to Baylor and be with
fellow students who love and have a passion for Baylor as much
as I do. I have met so many wonderful friends through StuFu
and have had the opportunity to do so many exciting
things for Baylor. We give tours of campus to the
potential students and their families, we help raise
money for student scholarships, we set up events
on campus for students to enjoy and we get to
be in the homecoming parade. Joining Student
Foundation is honestly one of the best decisions
I’ve made since being at Baylor. I get to work with
some amazing people and it’s been such an honor
serving Baylor through this organization.
On top of everything else, you also work
for BaylorVision. What does that entail?
BaylorVision is Baylor’s athletic video
production department. I get to film
and help with the production
process of the athletic sporting
events such as volleyball,
basketball, softball and
baseball. This was my
second year working
with them, and
it has been
exciting
getting to
learn what all goes into the production for sporting events. It’s
always fun getting to run camera and put people on the jumbotron
at games.
Let’s go back to New York City for a second! Tell me more about
the Baylor in New York program you’ll be participating in?
NYC! I am absolutely thrilled for this exciting opportunity to go
to New York through Baylor’s program. Hundreds of students
applied to go for either the fall or spring semester and by the grace
of God, I was one of only 18 students selected to go for the spring
2014 semester. I will be spending my last semester of college in
New York City where I will be taking 12 hours of classes with other
Baylor students as well as finding an internship with a production
company that I will work at three to four days of the week. I’m not
sure which company I will be working at. I start applying in the fall,
but I would love to intern with NBC, ABC or CBS. Even if it isn’t
one of those big companies, I will be happy with any company that
takes me on as a part of their team! The fact that I got selected and
will be living in NEW YORK CITY is incredible. God is so good.
Getting this chance to go to New York is a dream come true.
That is so exciting, congratulations! Do you think you’ll get
homesick?
I’m sure I will! I’m so close to my family and friends here in Texas
so I know it will be an adjustment being so far away, but I know I’ll
make it through. It’ll definitely be different not being able to hop
in my car and go on I-35 to drive two and a half hours from Waco
to San Antonio, but I’m confident it’s all going to work out. Luckily
I have some really good friends who are going the same semester
I am so we’ll be there for one another. I also have friends who go
to some colleges a train ride away from New York City so it’ll be a
great chance to visit them as well.
When is your projected graduation date?
My projected graduation date is May 2014, and I am right on track!
I’m excited to see where life leads, but I’m also sad to leave my
school!
That’ll be here before you know it. Do you have postgraduation plans?
I’m kind of just embracing the unknown right now. Ideally I’d love
something to come from the Baylor in New York program, but I’m
really not too worried with what lies ahead. I’m focused on the now
and I know I’ll be good with my future in God’s hands. I’ll start
pursing post grad plans in the fall and while I’m in New York.
Any parting words for our current CCS students that follow in
your Warrior legacy?
After spending 13 straight years on the Vance Jackson campus
of CCS, my greatest advice is to love where you are. Embrace the
opportunity to attend a Christian school. Embrace the friends
and mentors that God has placed around you. Don’t dwell on the
negative and live joyously! Before you know it, you’ll be entering
your senior year of college and the joys of elementary, middle and
high school will be far behind. Don’t leave the past with regret.

Bethany Krock ’10 received the Most
Valuable Player of Defense award for
her hard work on the Southwestern
Assemblies of God University
(SAGU) womens basketball team.
Bethany received a basketball
scholarship to the university, and
she now serves as a team captain.
This season Bethany scored a
season high of 18 points in 19
minutes against St. Thomas.
Additionally, Bethany was recruited
to the SAGU softball team where
she prevented a grand slam by
jumping 12 inches higher than the
fence for an automatic out followed
by a quick-thinking throw to third
for double-play and third out to end
the inning.

of Science in Counseling Psychology
with a minor in Marriage and Family
Counseling and an Associate of Art
in Bible from Southwestern
Assemblies of God University. While
at SAGU, Andrea was on the
cheerleading squad during her
freshman year, and served as
captain her sophomore year. She
remained involved in the
counseling center at SAGU during
her undergraduate work, and in the
fall she will be inducted into the Psi
Chi Honor Society as she begins
work on a master’s degree at SAGU.
In May 2013, Andrea accepted the
position of undergraduate
admissions counselor at SAGU for all
incoming freshman west of the
Mississippi River including Hawaii,
Alaska, and much of Texas.
Paisley Pauli
Paisley Pauli ’09 earned a Bachelor
of Art in Adolescent and Child
Psychology from University of
Incarnate Word (UIW). Paisley plans
to begin work on a Master’s in
Health Administration at UIW
followed by medical school. She will
also begin working at One for
Autism, and continue working as a
research assistant at the UIW Child
and Adolescent Research Lab. Her
ultimate goal is to work as a
developmental pediatrician and
open a child development center.
