Rewards Network
CASE STUDY Rewards Network Rewards Network® is a results-driven, measurable marketing program that helps restaurants fill more tables and build a loyal customer base. Rewards Network provides access to over 3.2 million passionate diners, driving new and repeat visits by offering rewards such as airline miles, hotel points, charitable contributions, and more. The company promotes more than 10,000 restaurants to diners via the Web, email, social media, and mobile marketing, and also provides valuable customer feedback and performance tracking to help restaurants improve service and increase profits. iDine®, Rewards Network’s proprietary dining rewards program offers members rewards at participating restaurants, resulting in a high volume of consumer internet traffic. The iDine.com website includes a variety of features perfect for both the avid restaurant goer and occasional diner. Users can search using various filtering options, in addition to viewing detailed restaurant descriptions featuring menus, hours, reviews, photos and geo-location services. Members who login to access their personal account also have the ability to view their annual benefits summary, which includes each restaurant visited and the corresponding reward amount received. OPPORTUNITY The iDine.com website was receiving the majority of hits from mobile and tablet devices. However, the website was not optimized for these devices, which contributed to a higher-than-expected abandonment rate for some visitors. To meet the needs of their multi-device consumers and reduce loss of website traffic, Rewards Network determined it was time to optimize the cross-platform iDine.com experience. Additionally, Rewards Network was looking for a solution that could be provided to third parties in a white-label format for use in other dining program mobile websites. STRATEGY Rewards Network understood that providing an optimized experience to the growing mobile segment was imperative to capturing new users, retaining current members and growing its overall loyalty program network and business. Consequently, Rewards Network required a mobile site designed and optimized for its on-the-go user base, with specific focus on tablet- and smartphone-carrying members. With PCI compliance and related security audits also being of utmost importance, Rewards Network needed a solution that could sit behind its firewall and take advantage of its existing back-end architecture, including established APIs. HIGHLIGHTS Multi-Device user experience Designed for the “mobile first” use case Unified Architecture PCI Compliant Geo-location nearby restaurants Share via Facebook and Twitter Bookmark favorite restaurants Access member information Member Sign Up SOLUTION Rewards Network partnered with Trilibis to develop an enhanced iDine.com mobile website and mobile application, based on Trilibis’ leading multi-device web technology and over ten years of Web design and development experience. is independent of the backend integration layer, SNOW was able take advantage of the existing unified architecture and associated APIs, drastically decreasing the overall time to market. Trilibis proposed a holistic strategy for both the mobile and tablet web experiences, leveraging its multi-device web development framework SNOW, (Software eNabling One Web). Using SNOW, Trilibis was able to deliver a high performing site, specifically tailored to Rewards Network’s requirements. With iDine’s on-the-go users in mind, the mobile and tablet websites were designed for easy access to high-impact items, including restaurant menus, maps and the ‘Join Now’ option to capture and increase enrollment. SNOW’s server-side approach and enhanced device-detection provided the ability to implement all of the optimized code and layout at the server level, delivering a high-performing site where only device specific assets are sent to the accessing smartphone or tablet. Since SNOW is architected for a server side approach to multi-device web development, source code is post processed allowing for only the appropriate images and content to be sent to the accessing device, resulting in faster load time. Additionally, leveraging SNOW’s server-side post processing, Rewards Network’s security and integration requirements were easily met. Furthermore, since SNOW resides at the presentation (or webserver) layer and HTML5-compliant, server-side software that simplifies One Web development, improves site performance from a single codebase. RESULTS Shortly after the newly optimized site launched, the abandonment rate for iDine.com was significantly reduced and mobile enrollment exceeded 200 percent over goal. “The launch of SNOW has had a substantial impact on visitor engagement,” said Kara Walsh, chief marketing officer at Rewards Network. “We quickly saw our bounce rate drop by more than 50 percent, and a resulting uplift in member enrollment.” Additionally, security compliance requirements were met, and time to market exceeded expectations. iDine’s mobile market base is clearly thrilled with the performance and optimization of the new SNOW enabled site, as mobile visits have increased by 66 percent and page views per visit have increased by 68 percent. Trilibis Mobile is a leading provider of mobile technology and development solutions to online brands, media companies, consumer brands and enterprises. To simplify multi-device development, Trilibis created SNOW, the first HTML5compliant server-side software that supports One Web development and enables designers and developers to create device-aware websites. Websites developed with SNOW are based on a single code-base, use the same URL, seamlessly adjust their layout and user experience to different devices, and load fast on smartphones and tablets.
