Ultraviolet radiation is high-energy shortwave radiation. This type of
radiation is invisible to the human eye; however, it is perceptive to
certain animals. UV radiation is a part of sunlight but can also be
emitted from artificial sources (e.g. welding machines).

UV radiation itself has both a positive and negative impact on our lives,
plus it is connected with number of important chemical processes in
the human body. However, excess exposure to ultraviolet radiation is
harmful to the skin and eyes. Eyes serve as receptors of surrounding
light and are a very delicate apparatus in their structure. Eyes are the
first part of the entire human body to suffer from damages caused by
UV radiation and significant degenerative changes occur as a result.

CLINICALLY PROVEN FACTS
It is clinically proven that long-term exposure of unshielded eyes to
the sun’s radiation can damage the surface of the eye and its inner
structures. Moreover, these negative effects accumulate with time. The
longer your eyes are exposed to UV radiation throughout the course of
life, the greater the risk of developing eye diseases is.
Pupil
With the help of two muscle systems independent of our will, its size can change and thus regulate the amount of light
passing into the eye. A change in pupil size can occur from the effect of lighting conditions (bright light causes it to
contract) as well as intense emotions.
Our body has the ability to regenerate damaged cells. However, the
eye lens is an exception – it is never possible for it to regenerate the
natural way. For this reason, health consequences may eventually arise
as a result of the gradual accumulation of damaged proteins in the
eye lens.
Retina
It consists of nerves and nerve endings in the form of rods and cones (photoreceptors). Rods can react to very dim
light, but do not distinguish colours. Cones respond only to strong sources of light but support the perception of
colour. The retina receives images seen through your eye and transmits them through the optic nerve to your brain.

from the external environment. The actual organ that
ensures vision is the eye. Eyes mediate information to
us from a zone of visible light of 400 nm (violet light) to
700 nm (red light). The eye itself is a very complex and
perfectly functioning “machine”, thanks to which we can
perceive the world around us but it takes only a minor
injury to the eye, or a part of it and our vision can worsen
or even be entirely lost. Therefore, we should realize that
we only have one set of eyes and hence the need for us
to be particularly careful.
We often succumb to the illusion that if we do not perceive damages (problems) as acute, then there is no problem.
The pitfall of the effects of UV radiation is that they do not manifest themselves immediately but rather at a later age
in life. Damages to the eye as a result of long-term exposure to UV radiation are irreversible and in the majority of
cases, the moment symptoms show it is too late.

The several μm thick film lining the whole inner surface of the lens reduces condensation by absorbing moisture.
This technology ensures work safety in a harsh environment.
IR radiation has a longer wavelength than visible light and is perceived by man as heat. If you expose yourself to
IR radiation for a longer period of time without protection, symptoms may occur such as burning or stinging eyes.
Long-term exposure to IR radiation can lead to the formation of cataracts or even blindness.

The human eye can be exposed to three basic hazards during work activities – mechanical, chemical or
radiation-induced hazards. Some of these hazards can work in parallel or one hazard can be followed by another.
Therefore, it is important for the work environment to be thoroughly mapped in terms of hazards. Naturally, other
hazards can also be identified, e.g. electric, heat etc. Precise identification of hazards is the basis for selecting
the right glasses.

How to select the correct eye protection
The main requirements for eye protection include dimensions, firmness, optical requirements and additional
requirements, which are established by relevant standards. The most important thing is to identify hazards that pose
as a threat while working – e.g. if acid, radiation or flying pieces of plaster can penetrate the eye. Then determine
the type of protection: safety glasses, goggles, protective goggles or a face mask. You can choose from a selection
of classic or trendy eyewear.
When choosing equipment for eye protection, don’t forget about the possibility of needing to wear dioptric glasses.
In this case it will be better to select a protective shield; however, you can also choose from protective eyeglasses
that dioptric glasses can fit under.
