This is one of the best ways to get to know other members and none of our functions could be done without help. New SSoB Members Martin Allan and Carmen Chan One of the new projects is, to reactivate the idea of a SSoB Scholarship. Please read page 3 of this issue to find out the details and how to apply. The application form will also be on the website. Wrentham, MA We are looking for a new treasurer starting after the next annual meeting. Please let us know if you are interested. Our updated website has a new section: Marketplace – this is meant for members wishing to give away items, discussion forums, etc. We reserve the right not to post. She grew up in northern New Jersey and spent her summers visiting family in Switzerland. Corine holds a Bachelors in German and Linguistics from the University of Michigan, and a Masters of Education in Mild/Moderate Disabilities from Boston University. She is currently the Kindergarten Inclusion Coach at the John Silber Early Learning Center in Chelsea, Massachusetts and has been a member of the Swiss Society of Boston since 2011. He has a Bachelor's degree in German from the University of Dallas. In addition, he also spent his junior year in Munich, Germany at Ludwig Maximilians Universität. After college, he moved to the Boston area where he began his career in financial services as a personal banker for Bank of America. From there he went on to work for Merrill Lynch where he runs a wealth management practice with a team of financial advisors. Under this practice, he services businesses and individuals in a wide range of financial services and investment strategies. This range of services includes everything from basic banking, credit/lending and investments to retirement, estate, and philanthropy planning. He has been a member of the Swiss Society of Boston since 2011. He holds a Masters in political science and is helping entrepreneurs win at MassChallenge, the world’s largest startup accelerator. Afterwards, he started working as an Online Campaigner, helping NGOs and Political Parties discover the world of social media. Roman eventually founded and ran his own company in Zurich, before winning a green card in the lottery and moving to Boston a year later. He loves traveling, enjoys the great outdoors in Alaska's and Maine's wildernesses, and is passionate about building communities. Continued... Raclette Picnic, Larz Anderson Park, Brookline, MA Enjoy a fall afternoon and bring your family and friends to the Swiss Society of Boston's traditional Raclette Picnic! The Swiss Society provides the cheese for the Raclette; you bring the trimmings-boiled potatoes, pickles, salad, dessert and beverages. Fall Hike, TBD Enjoy a leisurely family hike and dinner at a local restaurant with fellow SSoB members, Betty Boston Wähe 1. Prepare one portion of Kuchenteig/pie crust as follows: 200g Flour ½ tsp. Salt combine in a bowl 75g Butter, cold and cubed Add and combine by rubbing between your hands until the mixture crumbles Combine until a soft dough forms. Do not knead. Press the dough flat and set it to cool covered for 30 minutes 2. Once cool, roll the dough on a floured surface to about 3 centimeters thick. Place the rolled out dough on a cookie sheet or baking pan. Roll extra dough around the edges to create a crust. Stab the dough all over with a fork. 3 Tbsp. Hazelnuts, ground Sprinkle on the rolled out dough 1dl Water 750g Fruit, cut into slices John F. Willis has lived in Swampscott since 1999. His mother was born in Geneva. Her family is from Sigriswil, which is near Thun. He is an attorney specializing in real estate title litigation at Wacks & McHale PC in Lynnfield. He graduated from Stanford University and Tulane Law School. He enjoys hiking and skiing in New Hampshire, and visiting relatives in Switzerland annually. His wife Cynthia works at Boston Medical Center. His daughter Acadia attends Endicott College and his son Hap is a student at the University of Rochester. The Swiss Society will provide freshly made cheese fondue with bread, one glass of wine per adult, tea, and fruit salad for dessert. August Celebration The Fondue Dinner was held once again at the First Parish Church in Billerica, Massachusetts. We all had a great evening The 1. August Celebration was held at the Maynard Rod and Gun Club in Maynard, Massachusetts. Everyone enjoyed with delicious food and great company! the Swiss music and food along with some friendly soccer and shooting competitions. The children also had a blast with Davey the Clown. Spring Hike Raclette Picnic The Spring Hike was held at Rocky Woods in Medfield. SSoB members enjoyed a short hike with expansive views from atop Cedar Hill. After the hike we had a cookout where we got the chance to meet some new members! The Racelette Picnic was a great success! Members enjoyed a traditional Raclette picnic at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, Massachusetts and had a great time mingling with old and new members alike. Kayaking Fall Hike Swiss Society of Boston members spent a gorgeous June morning kayaking on the Charles River! We rented single and double kayaks in Kendall Square in Cambridge and enjoyed phenomenal views of Boston. Afterwards we all enjoyed lunch at a nearby restaurant. The Fall Hike was held at Wachusett Mountain. SSoB members enjoyed a hike along the Pine Hill Trail, which offered dramatic views from the summit where we all enjoyed a picnic lunch.
