2014 May 1-3 Official Guide Organised by Rural Youth Tasmania Have a Field Day Smoke-free Event 2014 2014 Chairman’s address CONTENTS I welcome you to Agfest 2014 O N behalf of the Agfest organising committee I welcome you to Agfest 2014, our 32nd Field Days and hope you enjoy the activity and atmosphere we are proud to present. You will see that we have put in a lot of man hours in preparation for the three days to ensure your visit is a pleasant and memorable one. The Agfest Committee have worked hard to bring you the best of what Tasmania has to offer and by popular demand we have recreated the Beef Expo area which is now situated at the top of Main Street. We also have a variety of favourites being the Agricultural Demonstrations, Peter Brook 4WD Drive Track, Craft pavilions, Equine Expo, the DairyTas Legendairy Expo, Unique Taste Fine Food Pavilion, a packed timetable in the Central Arena and static display sites. With over 750 exhibitors providing a broad selection, there is definitely something to interest everyone. Over the past 31 Agfest’s 1,588,452 people have walked through the gates, which represents an average of over 51,000 each year. This has now stabilised at a regular 65,000+ each year and we look forward to welcoming our eager visitors again to “Quercus Park”. The Agfest committee is made up of unpaid volunteers who are members of the Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania, aged between 15 and 30, along with the great support from our small office team. We have continued our policy of seconding local community groups to provide manpower for selected jobs, which is an effective way in which Agfest can support and assist these groups to continue with their excellent work within the local community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank exhibitors and patrons for supporting Agfest, as well as conveying my appreciation and respect to members of the Agfest committee and volunteers. Without the collective effort from all of these people, Agfest would not present as smoothly as it does, thank you. On behalf of the Agfest Committee and the Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania I extend a warm welcome to everyone who attends the three days of Agfest 2014 and wish you all an enjoyable day and safe trip home. Amanda Bayles Chairman Agfest 2013-2014 Rural Youth Membership If you are interested in becoming a member, contact Rural Youth Head Office on (03) 6331 6154, visit the Rural Youth web page: www.ruralyouth.com.au or see the Rural Youth feature on site 518 in Fifth Avenue, next to the Central Arena. Expressions of interest were advertised and 12 outstanding applications were received. “All charities are worthy of support, but the committee unanimously chose ‘Life Without Barriers’ because it supports the client, their families and the community as a whole”, said Chairman Amanda Bayles. ‘Life Without Barriers’ started as a small service which now has to over 100 offices in Australia and New Zealand, where people with disability are assisted to build their lives and their confidence. Life Without Barriers operates locally, but draws on a wealth of experience across the country to ensure communities – from city suburbs to remote communities – all receive the best quality of care, solving problems and working with people to tackle even the most difficult and challenging situations. “We’ve been here in Tasmania for six years and have offices in Launceston, Hobart and Burnie. In Tasmania, offering foster and residential care, disability services, mental health, education, and refugees and asylum seeker support”, said Melinda Ferrier, Operations Manager for Tasmania’s North. “We are delighted to have been selected as the Charity Partner of Choice for Agfest 2014; having a presence at a major event that attracts over 65,000 people is something we could never do without this opportunity. We also understand the huge value that Agfest brings to the Tasmanian community and the state’s economy. The event plays an important role in building and strengthening community relationships, and that’s something we also stand for”, she said. More information about Life Without Barriers can be found at site M09 on the corner of First Avenue & Main Street.
