LENGTH OF SERVICE: 26 years
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST
ABOUT HILL COLLEGE? Our
HC family, HC’s Mission, and
our STUDENTS!
WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE
EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT
YOUR JOB? The vast majority
of our students truly want to
learn and that makes my job
thrilling and a joy. And I will
never be organized because I
think of many cool things for
my class on the way to work.
ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO
SHARE ABOUT YOURSELF?
I am from our community,
being a 5th generation Hill
County family, and spent
grades 1-4 in Godley, where
my mom was my 4th grade
teacher. She was rough!
HOBBIES OR INTERESTS
OUTSIDE OF WORK: I am a
lady rancher raising Miniature
Zebu Cattle for the last 14
years. I am called “The Zebu
Whisperer” because I use cow
psychology to handle them.
They are all my pets--all 30
of them--and I show them at
several state fairs and Houston
Livestock Show.
WHO IS YOUR HERO AND
WHY?
My older students who take
my online courses. They are
very insecure at the beginning,
having either never been
to college or returning after
many years.
Hill College is now a member of
the North Texas Community
College Consortium, a premier
regional network enabling member
institutions to achieve more, improve
quality, and reduce costs through
collaboration. What this means for
us is an opportunity for faculty/
staff development with our peers
from other community colleges.
The NTCCC has a great line up of
opportunities on its fall calendar,
including:
• Global Citizenship ConferenceFriday, Oct. 2, 2015
• 10th Annual Outcomes and
Assessment Conference- Friday,
Oct. 16, 2015
• North Texas Early College High
School Consortium 2015 Fall
Meeting- Friday, Oct. 23, 2015
• 2015
Higher
Education
Technology Forum- Friday,
Nov. 6, 2015
Anyone interested in attending any
of these events should contact their
supervisor. For more information
about NTCCC, you can visit their
website at http://ntccc.unt.edu/.
They also have archives available
on their website to look at videos of
past events.
Congratulations to the Hill College
Women’s Soccer Team. For the
first time in team history, they are
ranked in the NJCAA polls. Currently
sitting at No. 13, it’s likely that they
will move up this week, since their
record is now 5-0. GO LADY REBELS!
Hill College Welding is one of the
many programs that is often
involved in our communities. This
past weekend, the Cleburne welding
department held a welding merit
badge class for the scouts of BSA
Troop 811.
Ten scouts took part in the class
taught by Dave Frederick. Welding
safety, processes, techniques, and
careers were discussed before
hands-on demonstrations were
given in the welding lab. Each scout
made a series of welds including
fillet and groove welds using the
gas metal arc welding process. Upon
completion of the class, the scouts
met all the requirements to be
awarded the welding merit badge.
Future classes are currently being
planned for both the Cleburne and
Hillsboro campuses. WTG Welding!
Congratulations to Shannon Bowen,
Audio Visual Technician at the
Hillsboro Campus. For the third time
in two years, she submitted a video
to the Supernatural Convention
Video Contest, and for the third time,
her music video was chosen over
hundreds of submissions as one of
the winners. Along
with the presentation
of a certificate of
achievement and a gift
certificate, her videos
were added to the convention’s video archives to
be shown at other conventions around the country.
Shannon is a graduate of Hill College, and is currently
attending UTA where she will graduate in December
with a degree in Photography and Visual Arts.
Congratulations Shannon!
performance schedule on and off the Baylor Campus,
annually presenting four concerts of standard
orchestral repertoire, a full opera production, and
other events such as concerto accompaniments, new
music readings and choral/orchestral collaborations.
You don’t want to miss it!
Have you seen the new
popcorn machine at the
Cleburne Campus? Did you
know that one cup of air
popped popcorn contains
only 30 calories or so? Head
over to the JCC Student
Center and grab a snack!
Shout out to Lori Rose! Lori is getting her students
out and about in the community, with field trips,
community gardens and the United Way Student
Leaders! Way to represent Hill College, Lori!
Mark your calendars for
the Oct. 2 Flu Shot Clinic.
Walgreens
will
once
again be at HCC and JCC
to administer flu shots to
employees, students and
the community. Check www.hillcollege.edu/flu for
times and information.
Another calendar event that you don’t want to miss
is the first performance of the 2015-16 Performing
Arts Series. The Baylor Symphony will perform on
Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The group has an extensive

Hill College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges
(SACSCOC). Accreditation is vital to the sustainability of a college – it allows our students to receive federal
financial aid, transfer courses to other accredited institutions, and attests to the college’s overall health to our
constituents.
SACSCOC is one of only a few accrediting commissions that conducts a comprehensive review of its institutions
every ten years. Most accrediting agencies conduct such reviews every 5 to 7 years. The U.S. Department of
Education requires accrediting agencies that it recognizes to monitor its institutions more often to ensure
that institutions having access to federal funds continue to meet accreditation standards. To that end, the
Commission has developed a Fifth-Year Interim Report.
Hill College was last accredited in 2011. Our Fifth-Year Interim Report is due in Sept. 2016. Over the next year,
we will engage as an institution in a ‘mini-accreditation’ and I’ll be calling on departments across campus for
assistance. Thank you in advance for your help and feel free to contact me with any questions.

EYE ON: HR
Hill College values all that employees do in making this an outstanding institution. Many of you go above
and beyond in demonstrating our core values in support of our vision and our mission. In an effort to provide
increased recognition and visibility of your hard work, we have developed four separate Champion awards.
Each quarter, one Champion award will be presented to a nominated employee exhibiting exemplary service
in support of Hill College. HR is currently accepting nominations for the Mission Champion. This award will
be given to an employee demonstrating excellence in carrying out our College mission. Nominations will be
reviewed from Sept. 1 – Nov. 30 and the recipient will be announced in December. You can nominate a fellow
employee in the Secure Area. Look for the Employee Recognition Nomination.
