6 WELCOME HOME 6
Major League Baseball warms up the month with an exciting slate of Cactus League
games. We warm up our residents with a quality home, carefree lifestyle, and responsive
service. You always have the home field advantage at our community. Thanks for being
a part of our winning team!
K SHAMROCK TREAT K
March 17 • 11 a.m.–5 p.m. • in the Office
It must be the “luck of the Irish” that we have such grand residents living at our community.
Whether you’re Irish or just Irish for the day, wear a wee bit o’ green and stop by for a
special St. Patrick’s Day treat. We really appreciate each and every one of our residents,
and that’s no blarney!
e GRAND SLAM BREAKFAST e
March 23 • 10 a.m.–Noon • in the Clubhouse
You can’t beat fun at the old ballpark—or can you? We’re throwing a Grand Slam
Breakfast to celebrate spring training and the 2013 baseball season. Just slide on over
for plenty of good food and great company. We’ll hit a grand slam with fun for everyone!
y BEST “ERA” IN TOWN y
Great Referral Incentives
Have your friends or co-workers struck out looking for that perfect place to call home?
Have them swing by our community. We have the best “ERA” in town. It’s earned resident
approval that counts here, so please make the call and refer a new resident. When your
referral signs a lease and moves in, you’ll receive a great referral incentive! Check with
the office for details.
p DOUBLE PLAY FOR PETS O
$50 Pet Pickup Fine
It’s a perfectly executed double play when our pet owners clean up after their pets
and use a leash when outdoors. Thanks for going to bat for our community and helping
to keep our grounds clean and sanitary! Please don’t drop the ball by neglecting our pet
policies. Violations carry a $50 pet pickup fine.
Cactus League Excitement
Luxuriate in gorgeous weather in the friendly confines of
an intimate, outdoor ballpark. Thrill to the roar of the crowd
while you enjoy a delicious hot dog and cold drink. Check out
your favorite players, coaches, and teams as they gear up for the
2013 M.L.B. season. Ask yourself, “Can Kirt Gibson restore
the Arizona Diamondbacks to their former glory days?” “Will
the San Francisco Giants repeat as World Series champs?”
Whether you’re a sports fan or not, spring training is an
important economic engine that helps fuel the local economy.
Approximately 1.7 million fans attended Cactus League
games here last year. Of that number, 56 percent came to
visit from out of state. Hosting these major league teams
brings in an estimated $350 million to Arizona’s economy
each year.
Arizona plays host to fifteen Major League Baseball teams
that comprise the Cactus League, and you can catch them
playing at any one of the ten beautiful ballparks located
in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Peoria, Goodyear,
Surprise, Glendale, and Salt River. Work on the new
Chicago Cubs’ spring training facility is underway in Mesa,
and the ballpark should be ready for the 2014 season.
Irish Sayings &
KK Shenanigans K
What do you get when you cross
poison ivy with a four-leaf clover?
A rash of good luck.
s

h
W
Here are our top five reasons to go to a Cactus League game:
1. You can relax and bask in the perfect spring weather.
2. Spring training is affordable fun for the whole family.
3. It’s a great way to preview the teams and meet the players.
4. The fans are friendly, and the food always seems to
taste better at an outdoor event.
5. You can’t beat fun at the old ball park!
So get off the couch, turn off that overheated TV, and
venture outside for some exciting spring training baseball
action (see schedule listed to the right).
My Irish mother’s menu consisted
of two dishes—take it or leave it.
Why should you never iron a
four-leaf clover? You don’t want
to press your luck.
You’ll never plow a field by turning
it over in your mind.
What’s little and green and stuck to
your bumper? A leprechaun who didn’t
look both ways.
When Irish eyes are smiling,
watch your step.
The quickest way to double your money
is to fold it and put it back in your pocket.

“S
trike three, winter weather. You’re outta here!”
Temperatures are warming up this month, and so are
Major League Baseball’s players and fans. For the next thirty
days only, Cactus League is the hottest ticket in town.
Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip
Serves 12
Ingredients:
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese,
softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup grated Romano cheese
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon garlic salt
Salt and pepper to taste
1 (14 ounce) can artichoke hearts,
drained thoroughly and chopped
1/2 cup cooked, drained, and chopped
fresh spinach (or frozen chopped spinach)
               Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F. Lightly grease a
small baking dish. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, mix together cream
cheese, sour cream, Parmesan cheese,
Romano cheese, mozzarella cheese,
garlic, basil, garlic salt, salt, and pepper.
Gently stir in artichoke hearts and spinach.
Transfer mixture to the baking dish.
Bake 30 to 45 minutes, until bubbly and
lightly browned. Serve with bread or
tortilla chips.
Finding Hidden
Storage
Here are a few
ideas for finding
extra storage in
your home.
Behind the door. A rack that
hangs over the closet door is useful for
shoes and purses. Pocket organizers
hold jewelry, scarves, gloves, or even
craft supplies and small toys. For extra
towels, hang a door rack in the bathroom.
Under the bed. Store off-season
clothing and extra sheets and blankets
in long, low containers under the bed.
Inexpensive bed lifts allow you to add
extra height and storage space. Hide
everything from sight with a bed skirt.
Over the toilet. Invest in a decorative
free-standing rack that fits over
the toilet. Use it for bath products,
cosmetics, and extra toiletries.
In the closet. Hangers that hold
multiple clothing items like skirts or
slacks save room. Fabric cubes turned on
their side and placed on a closet shelf
provide storage for bulky sweaters,
pajamas, or any folded item.
On top of kitchen cabinets. If you have
space above your kitchen cabinets, use it
to store seldom-used appliances.

2013 Ostrich Festival
A
t one time, Chandler and Maricopa County led
the nation in ostrich ranching. To celebrate their
place in Arizona history, the Ostrich Festival was
created in 1989. This year, for its 25th anniversary,
100,000 people will join the celebration March 8–10
at Chandler Tumbleweed Park in Chandler, Arizona.
The 2013 Ostrich Festival will feature the
crowd-pleasing Ostrich Races as well as other
fan favorites, including The Freakshow Deluxe,
Pig Races, Rhinestone Trick Roper, Doggies of
the Wild West, live ostrich displays, and bubble
shows. Carnival rides, 150 vendor booths, and live
entertainment add to the fun and excitement.
Ostriches are native to the African Savanna.
These oversized, flightless, fleet-footed birds can
run up to 43 mph (10–16 feet in a single stride),
and they use their wings as rudders to help
change direction. Ostriches may look awkward
and defenseless, but their long, strong legs and
two-toed feet (each equipped with a long sharp claw) make formidable weapons against
predators. An adult ostrich stands 8–10 feet tall and weighs in at a hefty 350–400 pounds.
Don’t stick your head in the sand and miss this event! Info: 480-963-4571 or ostrichfestival.com.

DOWN THE DRAIN
Help us prevent clogged pipes, which
are inconvenient for you and may require
expensive repairs. Please do not dispose of
sanitary products, disposable diapers, paper
towels, cigarette butts, etc. in the toilet bowl.
Clear minor blockages with a plumber’s
helper. Inexpensive plungers are available
at most home improvement and discount
stores.
KEEP GATES CLOSED
As you know, the purpose of our
community gates is to minimize the
number of unauthorized people entering
our community. Please help to keep our
community safe by making sure the gates
are closed and latched after you enter or
exit. We also request that residents never
prop open the gates, even for a minute.
? WHEEL REPEAL
For the safety of our residents and guests,
we’re putting the brakes on freewheeling
about our community. This means that
bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and
rollerblades are not permitted anywhere
on our grounds. But your fun doesn’t have
to roll to a stop. Enjoy your “wheels” at a
nearby park.
