Welcome to the Village of Antioch.
Antioch’s Chain O’ Lakes region has been one
of the Chicago area favorite resorts since the
1880’s. The Village of Antioch is committed to
continuing the high quality of life enjoyed by the
citizens and businesses of our community. Our
mission is to embrace and preserve the quality
of life by providing fiscal sound and responsive
services, programs and facilities with the highest
degree of professionalism, integrity and efficiency
so that Antioch continues to be a great place to live and work. I invite
you to experience our authentic hometown atmosphere as you stroll and
shop in our beautiful downtown. We have over 80 shops and eateries
for your enjoyment and are fortunate to have 15 developed parks within
the village limits.
At the Center of our downtown is the William E. Brook Wetland Sanctuary and Entertainment Center. This 9-acre area includes
an educational wetland sanctuary with a boardwalk, walking path, interpretive nature signs, two ponds and the entertainment center. This is
also the site of many Antioch events including our free “It’s Thursday”
summer concert series, Taste of Summer, Share Fest and Fall Fest.
Our Farmers Market brings fresh produce to our downtown and is held
each week during the summer concert series. A new and very successful
event is our seasonal Wine Walk. Participants travel to various locations in our quaint downtown sampling 40-45 different wines. Visit our

Antioch offers family fun throughout the year with seasonal
events such as arts and craft fairs, carnivals and holiday activities
along with many other events. These events are sponsored by the Village
of Antioch, Antioch Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other
organizations from our community. Antioch’s events provide fun for the
entire family!

THE VILLAGE of Antioch’s roots
date back to 1836, when Darius B.
Gage, Thomas Q. Gage and Thomas
Warner made the first claims of
government land. The first house
was constructed on the north side of
Sequoit Creek, with homes following
shortly after on Loon Lake. The year
1839 brought a sawmill built by
Hiram Buttrick, with the intention of
providing the area with lumber for
steamboats, locomotive furnaces, log
homes and split-rail fencing.
Today, Antioch has grown to
a population of over 13,500. It has
many industries, retail and service
businesses, churches, schools,
organizations and neighborhoods.

Craft Faires
The Antioch Chamber of Commerce hosts 4 faires
each year. The Winter Arts and Crafts Faire will give crafters
an opportunity to showcase their Spring and Easter crafts.
Consumers will enjoy this Craft Faire while finding it the perfect
opportunity to “beat the Winter blues” and bring a bit of Spring
into their lives! (Feb.)
Antioch’s Spring Jewelry & Accessory Craft Faire (May)
will concentrate on jewelry and accessories, including purses,
hair accessories, scarves and other creative items for the whole

Antioch’s popular Summer Arts
and Crafts Faire, which is held Father’s
Day Weekend (June), is always the first
Faire to sell out in booth space each
year. This Summer Faire has been held
for more than 30 years in downtown
Antioch. Shoppers will find numerous
treasures from some of the country’s finest
artisans. There are more than 140 booths
offering a beautiful array of arts and crafts,
activities for children and snacks to nibble on.
The Fall Arts and Crafts Faire, which is
held the weekend after Labor Day (Sept.) has
nearly grown to the size of the Summer Faire.
More than 125 booths provide a creative
selection of crafts with an emphasis on the
holidays.

Antioch’s Taste of Summer is held each July
in downtown Antioch. Town-wide sidewalk
sales offer a wide array of goodies for the whole
family! You’ll experience many different tastes
at Antioch’s Taste of Summer…indulge your
tastes in shopping, food, entertainment, music
and good wholesome fun!

Our Community
will enjoy this popular Summer Festival! A day at the Taste is
comprised of browsing among the many street vendors which are
offering the lowest prices of the season. Throughout Antioch’s
Downtown, you’ll find shop after shop spilling out onto the
sidewalks, enticing shoppers with their bargains!
When it is time to refuel yourself with energy, head down to
the Taste and enjoy the many selections of edible delicacies under
the big top tents (located at Antioch’s Bandshell). Diverse menus
from numerous food booths will satisfy even the most ravenous
appetite! Taste Food Tents are open each day at noon and close
late evening. Children will be able to enjoy the kid-friendly
activities as well as the family-friendly carnival that adds to the
Taste! Musical entertainment for all ages is found at Antioch’s
Bandshell throughout the four days. American English comes
back to Antioch for our Sunday Finale in July for an afternoon of

Concerts Under the Stars
“It’s Thursday” in Antioch
boasts free evening concerts under
the stars at Antioch’s downtown
Bandshell. Dining and shopping
specials on Thursday nights
are designed to create a perfect
evening of food, fun, music
and shopping! “It’s Thursday”
concert series runs June through August. Each week brings new
and different surprises to the Thursday Night Concert….merchant
bazaars, car shows, farmers market, and a host of fun! The
Farmer’s Market opens in June and runs through September.

FallFest in Antioch means Wiener Races and Brats!
Antioch’s Annual FallFest, held in October in Downtown Antioch’s
Bandshell on Skidmore Drive. The fun continues throughout the
day into the evening.
Antioch’s FallFest is designed for family fun and has activities
for every age. Adults can enjoy challenges while children enjoy
various activities including
crafts, coloring contests, and a
Haystack Hunt (just to name a
few)!
Antioch’s FallFest boasts the
annual running of the Wieners
Race this year. That’s right,
a Wiener Race full of shortlegged, long-eared, barking
ones! The daschund races take
place in front of the Antioch
Bandshell one day in October
beginning early afternoon. Trophies, ribbons, and prizes will be
awarded in several categories.

Hot chocolate and cookies are enjoyed as Santa departs the Tree
Lighting Ceremony to officially open Santa’s Enchanted Castle.
Children enjoy visits with Santa during the month between
Thanksgiving and Christmas. Santa’s Castle is open each day
through Dec. 23rd. Children may share their Christmas wishes
with Santa as they visit his castle and he and his helpers welcome
everyone to come for a visit. Photos may be taken by Santa’s helpers
for a nominal fee, or you may bring your own camera to photograph
your child during their visit at Santa’s Castle and to help fund local
scholarship funds. Santa’s Castle is open Monday through Friday
from 5:30-8:00 p.m., and on
Saturday and Sundays from 1:004:00 p.m. On Saturday afternoons
by Santa’s Castle you may be
able to enjoy a ride on a horse
drawn carriage with your family.

Holiday Magic in Antioch
Winter in Antioch is a magical time. Antioch ushers in the
holiday season in November with an open house throughout
Antioch’s quaint Downtown followed by our annual Christmas
Walk. Thanksgiving is the beginning of fun and shopping for the
entire family. A magical evening Holiday Parade followed by
the Village of Antioch’s official Tree Lighting Ceremony takes
place the Friday night after Thanksgiving. Children of Antioch are
encouraged to create large outdoor ornaments to hang each year
on the Village Tree. A visit from Santa as he arrives in Antioch
in the parade brings smiles and excitement to kids of all ages.

MUSICAL INTERLUDES
FESTIVAL ARTS OF ANTIOCH
The Festival Arts of Antioch brings
music to the Antioch Community in the
form of both song and instrumentals
through the Antioch Chorus and the Lakes
Area Community Band. Both organizations
are comprised of volunteer singers and
musicians that enjoy performing.
Each year, the Festival Arts
of Antioch produces several musical
performances. The Festival Arts performs
the Crucifixion in early Spring and the
Messiah in December. These popular
events are favorites among our Antioch
Residents.
Throughout
the year,
Antioch
Chorus and
the Lakes Area Community Band both
performs concerts within the Community.
Performances include seasonal concerts
for Spring, Mother’s Day, the Antioch
Bandshell, 4th of July, Fall and Christmas.

LAKES AREA SWING BAND
The Lakes Area Swing Band is a
non-profit organization whose goal is to
share the love of Big Band and Swing
era music. The members are dedicated
amateurs, drawn together to have fun,
further their musical skills, learn, and give
music back to the community.
The Lakes Area Swing Band does
this by attending rehearsals and performing
Pro-Bono public performances for
worthy causes and senior citizens. Paid
performance donations are invested in the
band operating costs and scholarships to
further high school and college students’

Bear Tracks that is! The Antioch Chamber is
hosting our 2nd Annual Public Art Program in
2011... BEARS ON THE CHAIN (of Lakes).
This popular community event was proven
a success when Antioch’s Dogs on the
Chain made their debut in 2010.
People of all ages enjoyed visiting the
delightfully designed dogs throughout the
Spring and Summer while entering contests
for chances to win valuable prizes!
“Da Bears” will come out of hibernation the 1st weekend of June. Come visit our Bears
and bring your family and friends to be one of the first to “make tracks” to Antioch.
Antioch’s Public Art Progam benefits local
charities such as the Open Arms Pantry, SaveA-Pet and ACHS Scholarships. Plus families
will enjoy months of Beary Good Fun!

Lakes Region Historical Society Museum
Open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Lakes
Region Historic Society Museum is set in a restored two-story,
brick schoolhouse. The museum houses artifacts and memorabilia
of the local area and the Chain O’ Lakes region with seasonal
changes in décor. Special group museum tours are also available.

Located approximately 40 miles northwest of Chicago
on Illinois Routes 173 and 12 near the towns of Antioch and
Fox Lake, the 7,200 acres Fox
Chain O’Lakes are the largest
single, inland, water-oriented,
recreational asset in Northeastern
Illinois. According to a survey
taken by the U.S. Coast Guard,
weekend usage on the Chain hits
about 60,000 people on average
and on holidays that figure rises to
100,000 people.
Easy access to the major
cities of Chicago and Milwaukee
has added to the importance of the
Chain. In addition to its hotels,
motels and resorts with cottages
in the immediate marina area, there are also many marinas,
restaurants, pubs, bait and tackle stores and recreational
lakefronts.
The future of the Chain is being monitored by the
Illinois Department of Conservation. They have recently
expanded both the walleye and muskellunge populations
throughout the Chain. The Fox Chain provides the best place
to go fishing in Northern Illinois, with over forty species

fun one by understanding the
sport of fishing and the types of bait and tackle to use, when,
where and how. As the old saying goes, “Ten percent of the
fishermen catch ninety percent of the fish”.
Safety should be a number one concern when on the
Chain (or any other body of water). Make sure all your
equipment is in working order. Do not overload your boat
or run it at high speeds in unfamiliar areas. Be courteous to
everyone around you and give assistance where needed.
