MAJOR INFLUENCES
• Funding has remained flat for five years;
• Bus fleet is aging, requiring more maintenance to keep on the road;
• A capital match fund is needed in order to acquire new or reconditioned buses;
• Local capital match dollars leverage grants for either 80% or 90% of bus cost;
• Operating costs increase each year, stretching non-municipal dollars raised;
• Contributions from parent municipalities constitute 14% of operating revenues,
compared to 47% for South Portland Transit and 41% for Portland Metro.
