The Coconut Grove Arts Festival transforms the charming streets of Coconut Grove into a creative paradise with artists from across the world.
A local’s guide to
Coconut Grove
Miami’s original community
by the bay since 1873
Miami’s original neighborhood was founded in 1873 by an eclectic mix of pioneers,
artists, intellectuals, and adventurers. The tropical oasis of Coconut Grove thrives
to this day as Miami’s escape from the stress of city life. In the middle of Miami,
yet completely separate, Coconut Grove offers a warm, laid-back atmosphere of
boutiques, shady lanes, sidewalk cafes, and quaint watering holes. There is a distinct
bohemian flair that allows anyone to drop in and chill out every day of the week, any
time of the year. Inside The Grovite you will find great options for what to see and do,
as well as a detailed map and expert advice from local “Grovites”. Get your Grove on!

COCONUT GROVE
ARTS FESTIVAL
AN ANNUAL TRADITION
FEBRUARY 13-15, 2016
In 1963, theater press maven Charlie Cinnamon organized an intimate “clothes line” art
show featuring a handful of artists and a few thousand onlookers as part of a promotion
for the Coconut Grove Playhouse’s production of Irma la Douce. Better known today as the
Coconut Grove Arts Festival®, Charlie’s vision has transformed into one of South Florida’s
most successful cultural events, attracting an estimated 100,000 people to the winding
streets of Coconut Grove during Presidents’ Day weekend.
The 53rd annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival® (CGAF)
returns this Presidents Day weekend, February 13-15,
2016 to showcase award-winning works by
North America’s most talented artists.
Regarded as America’s most
popular outdoor fine arts
exhibition, CGAF boasts
more than 380 artists
across 12 different,
yet equally rousing,
categories.
They include: mixed
media, painting,
photography, digital
art, printmaking &
drawing, watercolor, claywork, glass, fiber, jewelry &
metalwork, sculpture, and wood. An additional category,
the New & Emerging artist category, will present some of the
newest faces in the outdoor fine arts world.
A favorite component of the annual event, the Culinary Pavilion, will again host top
name chefs from the hottest restaurants and hotels in South Florida and present cooking

CGAF will again partner with Miami New Times in programming the three days of live
entertainment and bringing an impressive line-up of national touring acts to the main stage
lineup in Peacock Park.
“Many people grew up with the Arts Festival and have watched it evolve and grow with
them. They attended when they were children, and now bring their children to this traditional family event. With such a rich and extensive history, it’s hard not to remember special
moments at the Arts Festival throughout the years,” said CGAF President, Monty Trainer.
The Children’s Trust Art Alley also returns this year with
an interactive Kids’ Area that encourages children,
ages 2-12, to express their imagination and creativity
through hands-on workshops.
The Coconut Grove Arts Festival has consistently
been named one of the best fine arts festivals in the
nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine and remains the
top voted outdoor arts festival in the history of the
magazine’s 200 Best. Most recently, CGAF
was named the “Best Festival” in Miami by
the Miami New Times as part of its annual

when you combine soft, luxurious fabric with the right tailoring, the result is a piece that
can take you from the office to a dinner party, without sacrificing style or comfort.
For women, Kit and Ace offers four t-shirt fits – West Coast, contour, tailored standard,
and boyfriend. The effortless style of the West Coast fit has been particularly popular,
especially the Wave Tee, which is designed for movement and features flat-locked seams
for comfort. It is perfect for a day spent in Coconut Grove– strolling through galleries and
boutiques, sitting down for a coffee at the local cafe, and having dinner at a favorite local
restaurant.
Men’s t-shirts are designed to look effortless, merging functional and technical attributes
with classic Italian tailoring. Core styles, such as the Vee Tee and Mayne Tee, are
enhanced with stretch to keep their shape, move with you, and transition from day to night
– on cooler nights, layer Kit and Ace t-shirts to keep cozy and stylish.
Kit and Ace is a technical company and innovates in every area of product design – from
the luxury fibres woven into its proprietary fabrics, to the intensive testing of products,
including wash and wear testing. Yes, Technical Cashmere is machine-washable and
dryable to save you time.
Aside from core t-shirt styles, Kit and Ace also sells a selection of tops, bottoms, dresses,
outerwear, and accessories, such as scarves and blankets, made from luxurious
proprietary fabrics.
Within its shop spaces, Kit and Ace collaborates with local artists and contractors during
the build-out process. The Coconut Grove shop will feature a large Supper Club table
designed by Jessica Acosta Rubio to anchor the space, lighting by Brookhart Jonquil, and
an iconic photograph by Alejandro Veliz, Boats Beneath a Miami Sky, which captures the
essence of the city.
Coconut Grove is an escape within the city, and the future Kit and Ace location will be a
destination where locals can go to engage in real conversation and find inspiration in the
artistic details of the shop. Kit and Ace will open just in time for the holidays – keep your
eyes out for when the doors open at 3401 Main Highway, Suite 3000, and wrap yourself
in Technical Cashmere.
