OBPA President Dr. Rick Timm, All Family Dental We have much to be Thankful for! The Oakdale Business and Professional Association is moving into our busiest time of the year as we provide much of our community service projects during the next several months. Last month I led off my first column as the new president of the OBPA with an article regarding my privilege to serve both the Business Association and the Oakdale community. The OBPA is guided by a board of directors totaling over 20 local civic and business leaders from businesses in and near Oakdale. Today I want to take the opportunity to introduce two members on the OBPA Board of Directors with whom I have the privilege to serve. In their own words, here is a little more about them. I’m John Larson and am the Chairman of the Holiday Helping Hands team. We connect generous people with those in need at Christmas time. These generous people purchase and wrap gifts for those who are in need in the District 622 School system during this holiday season. On a Saturday before Christmas, all the gifts are distributed to families. It is a great program and brings joy to both those who receive and those who give. My wife, Ruth Ann, and I have lived in Oakdale since coming to Minnesota in 1979. All three of our children attended District 622 schools, two elementary, two middle and two high schools. We did a lot of driving when they were in three different schools at once! I am the Senior Pastor of Hope Church in Oakdale and serve a loving congregation that is deeply committed to the people in our community. One of the highlights of the recent past is serving as the President of OBPA. I’m Patty Kamas. I have been a board member of OBPA since 2007 and have been an active member since 2005. I joined the Holiday Helping Hands Committee in 2006 after volunteering as a shopper and helping with the event in 2005. I saw the joy it brought to families, and how this cause helped them through a tough time in life. This program does so much for the community and it touched me so greatly that first year I just had to be a part of it. I also volunteer in other OBPA activities such as Holiday Helping Hands Sure, there are lots of good deals offered on the Internet. But when it comes to insurance, you need more than just value. Every year we have new volunteers from the community join in this effort and I would invite you all to consider participating this year. As we move into November with thoughts of Thanksgiving, let’s remember that we are fortunate to live in the greatest country in the world and we have much to be thankful for.
