SSV Profile, Suresh Industries, comprising a fabrication workshop,
witnessed that the scope of profile cutting started to increase.
Hence, it wanted to cash this opportunity and scale up its business.
The company found out that lasers were the only economical and
state-of-the-art system that could offer maximum productivity at a
minimal operating cost. Therefore, the company opted for a fiber
laser cutting machine from Sahajanand Laser Technology Ltd (SLTL).
"SLTL stands apart from its
competitors by understanding
the market demand and serving
it with the required solutions.
We discuss with our customers
their current work flow, and
how they plan to scale up with
the help of our machines. We
also provide them with the
required calculations and
comparisons to facilitate smart
decision making."
Assistant General Manager,
Design, Sahajanand Laser
Technology Ltd,
Rajesh N Gajjar
"During my visit to SLTL’s
manufacturing facility in
order to finalize the machine,
I was assisted by some key
people in the production and
application department. They
helped me select a solution
that could aptly address my
requirement. I was also given
a detailed real-time
operating cost calculation of
the machine that I bought.
This helped me in projecting
my company’s financials and
calculate its productivity and
turnover for the future."

Challenge
The company was receiving constant
orders for metal conveyors, which are
used to dry rice in processing plants.
The work involved straight
geometries which could be processed
with the firm’s existing facilities. For
this purpose, the company required
profile cutting. Hence, it used to
outsource it to fabrication facilities
equipped with CNC plasma cutting
systems. In this case, the machining
would be good but the cost of getting
it done would only provide marginal
profit to the company.
Solution
Brahmastra Vector, a 1.5 kW fiber laser
cutting machine with a bed size of
3 m x 1.5 m.
Result
With SLTL’s fiber laser cutting machine,
the company upgraded its shop floor
to undertake precision fabrication
work. Now, profile cutting has become
the company’s major work inflow and
it can readily process any critical
fabrication works. Also, the company’s
profit percentage has increased owing
to low operating costs. Brahmastra
Vector makes the day-to-day operation
convenient with absolutely no labor
issues and at an economical cost. It
also saves time.

Effective Solutions
"IMTEX is a fantastic event that receives participation from
local, national and international companies. We visit this
exhibition every year, and this year we found many Indian
players exhibiting numerous new and exciting machines at the
event which will help to save time and reduce manpower. In
the last four-five years, we have been buying diverse tools. This
year too, we are looking at buying new products and tools. This
year's edition has also seen many innovative homegrown
technologies that showcase India's caliber to the world."
"We are associated with the army and in our field, the machine
requirements are quite different from the customized machines
that are manufactured by the companies. Also, any machine
which we buy should be cost effective, occupy less space and
at the same time should increase productivity. The Indian
machine tool industry is growing and we are looking for
effective solutions. IMTEX shows the capability of Indian
machine tool builders; and seeing more solutions that can
substitute imports is encouraging."

On the other hand, there

Global Outlook
Industry expectations
“For the coming years, we are
assuming that the Indian
Machine Tool market will
grow substantially, especially
for the domestic manufacturers.
In the next 20 years, we are
expecting a little more than half
of the global machining activity
to be housed within China and
India,” adds Sadasivan. This
means that there is an
exponential growth possibility
in the region. With China
already a matured market, India
has much to gain.
IMTEX is a global platform
for the manufacturing industry.
The event is further classified
into the forming and cutting
segment which proves beneficial to the visitors. Sadasivan
mentions, “IMTEX has been
and will continue to be the single most relied event for the
industry in India. Apart from
showcasing diverse products at
the event, initiatives by IMTMA
such as the knowledge exchange
program, prepares the industry

Market pulse
Despite this situation,
Sharma feels the need for Indian machine tool and machine
companies to create a brand
image for them on the global
stage to attract more business.
“One should take the opportunity to exploit the global market by making foreign companies aware about the latest
developments of Indian machines and technologies. This
will also help to boost trade
relations between India and
other countries.” Hence, branding of Indian machines has to
be carried out if one wants to
sell Indian machines abroad.
However, this will also require
a lot of investment and one can
see the results only after fiveseven years. But with the
current pulse of the market in

Safe-Lock
High performance machining (HPM) of
difficult-to-machine materials present
enormous demands on tool holding.
Therefore, micro-creeping movement is slow
and the tool is pulled out of the chuck due to
the high degree of axial forces. As a
consequence, the cutting data on the machine
tool is often reduced. Haimer’s Safe-Lock
System is has been developed to eliminate
such situations. Special drive keys in the
chuck and grooves in the tool shank prevent
the milling cutter from spinning during
extreme machining. Due to the increased
cutting depths and feeds, the metal removal
rate can be increased by up to 100 per cent
and to a similar degree tool wear decreases
due to the excellent runout characteristics.

The highly rigid and stable Steadyline
system from Seco effectively reduces
unwanted vibrations in extreme cutting
conditions via a ‘dynamic passive system’
inside the holder body. Here, a damping
mass counter vibrates against the first flex
vibration. As such, these products can
perform typical long overhang operations
twice as fast as traditional tools, reduce
spindle stress as well as offer high metalremoval rates, smooth part surface finishes
and long tool life. Steadyline is available in
6xD, 8xD and 10xD bar sizes and a range
of types, including Seco-Capto C4, C5 and

INTEGRA-50 is an Innovative and
one-of-its-kind CNC lathe from Pride
Machine Tools. The spindle is mounted
on the moving axes while the tool turret
is stationary. The workholding device on
the spindle also acts as a gripping system
that picks up components from the input
chute and ejects the part through the
output chute. Moreover, it acts as a regular
workholding device during the machining
process. The spindle on the moving axes
acts as a loading-unloading device, making
it absolutely reliable, fast and highly
economical. Unlike a regular CNC lathe,
on the INTEGRA-50, the component is fed

CAMWorks Virtual Machine is one of the
world's first integrated full-featured true
G-code machine simulator. With CAMWorks
Virtual Machine, dry-runs for program
validations are eliminated and setup time is
dramatically reduced. The G-code can be
verified with a single click. Once the program
has been simulated directly from the G-code,
it is ready to run on the machine.
CAMWorks Virtual Machine reduces the
lifecycle of programming. Users can easily

Fives Giddings & Lewis has added a new Y-axis
attachment, which enables capabilities such as offcenterline milling, drilling, tapping to VTCs. This
new attachment combines a C-axis head with a table
and X- and Z-axes’ motions. It comes fully integrated
on new VTCs or can also be retrofitted. Furthermore,
it allows for single setup processing of flanged parts,
pumps, compressors, motor housings, fluid routing
parts, intakes and exahusts, etc. This is an affordable
way to reduce setups and freeup machine time on
horizontal machining centers and boring mills that
used to be required to produce these same features
on turned parts.
AMF-Writers are tools that can be used for the
permanent marking of work pieces on CNC
milling as well as turn mill machines. With its
special needle, marking can be achieved without
the appearance of any cutting edges. The tool can
be used with or without machine spindle rotation.
Moreover, marking is possible on smooth, uneven
and rough surfaces with a deviation between 3 and
7 mm. The tool is infinitely adjustable for use on
different materials, surface hardness and depth of
marking. If used on 45 HRC hardened steel, the
effective tool life will be equivalent to a marking
distance of 70 km. High speed marking is also
possible. The needles are highly wear resistance
and thus offer a long service life. Additionally, it
is suitable for marking thin-walled work pieces
and round surfaces (up to 15°). Depending on
the design, it is possible to mark surfaces with a
hardness of up to 57 HRC.

Aluma End mills
KBN135C, a heavy duty boring machine is a high-performance product developed by
Hyundai Wia. By adapting the ‘air semi-rising sliding ways’, the load on the X and Z-axis
slide way is decreased. Moreover, by dramatically decreasing the slide way load the X and
Z-axis is able to hold tolerance and repeatability over longer cycle times. The KBN135
Series is designed with a 3-step gear drive, providing both high spindle speed and high
low end torque.
Alumaend mills from Cobra Carbide featurehigh helix and
flute design, which increase effective rake for greater
shearing ability.Furthermore, low cutting forces and effective
chip removal at higher feed rateswithout affecting edge
strength are also achieved. The tool is provided with a corner
radius for additional protection against chipping. The
cylindrical land reduces edge fierceness that is caused by
varied speed and feed rates. It further allows for machining
into corners while drastically reducing chatter. The key
advantage is that this end mill also improves the surface
finish. Therefore, the tool is an excellent choice for slotting
and high profiling at high speeds.
