Penny Rug Posy Table Runner

Use wool felt to make an antique-looking runner in the penny rug style.
Project Specifications
Skill Level: Beginner
Runner Size: 19" x 36" (including scallops)
Materials
yard light gold felt
 1/2 yard black felt
 1/2 yard burgundy felt
 1 yard dark green felt
 6–8 skeins burgundy 6-strand
embroidery floss
 Basic sewing tools and supplies

Cut 9 burgundy felt
 1/4

Cut 9 light gold felt
Instructions
Step 1. Make complete pattern for
the C and D pieces using pattern
given. Note: Add 6 3/4" to marked
folded edge when making patterns for C
and D. Cut as directed on patterns.
Step 2. Prepare templates for pieces A and
B, and flower pieces using patterns given; cut
as directed on each piece.

Step 3. Place a B piece on an A
piece, matching straight edges as
shown in Figure 1.
Step 4. Using 2 strands burgundy
embroidery floss, blanket-stitch
around the curved edges of the
B piece to secure on A; repeat to
A

Place a B piece on
an A piece, matching
straight edges.
make 33 A-B units.
Step 5. Stitch a flower center to a flower as in Step 4;
repeat on all flowers.
Step 7. Evenly space the A-B units around the edge
of C; pin in place 1/4" from edge of C. Stitch in place
through all layers as in Step 4.
Step 6. Arrange the flowers on D referring to the
Placement Diagram and photo of project for suggestions. Stitch in place as in Step 4.
Step 8. Center and baste the appliquéd D layer on C;
stitch in place through all layers as in Step 4. Remove
basting to finish. 
