Edward Lee Payne was born on September 6, 1951 to Lafayette (preceded him in
death) and Dorothy Payne in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the oldest of five children
and would eventual attend St. Louis Public Schools. He attended Ashland Elementary
through the eighth grade and advanced to Beaumont High School. Edward graduated
from Beaumont High School in 1970. The Beaumont Blue Jackets fondly called him
Ed. He ran cross country and commanded the football field starring as a Defensive
End #89. Edward received several full-ride scholarship offers to college and
subsequently chose to attend the University of Missouri-St. Louis for some courses.
While still in high school, he worked a part-time job as a Janitor for a local cleaning
company that was contracted to clean at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
While shining the mirrors, the CEO of Southwestern Bell noticed the quality of his
work. He said, “When you finish high school, come back to me, I will give you a job!”
The CEO did just what he promised, and he was fast tracked through the hiring
process taking a position as a Coin Collector. The adventures he experienced on the
streets of St. Louis fueled his race toward Christ. His work ethic and integrity caused
him to be promoted. He was soon positioned as an Installation and Maintenance
Technician where he excelled. He won various awards, cash prizes, and bonuses for
his salesmanship, attendance, quality of work, and customer service skills. Edward
retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in November 2000.
His parents took him and his sister, Geraldine to Sunday School at Greater
Progressive. As pre-teens, they sat on the Mourner's Bench. One glad morning, the
doors of the church were opened and they both jumped up and professed Christ and
were baptized. In his early twenties he was introduced to the Apostolic Faith. Guided
into Faith Miracle Temple located at 2801 E. Prairie at College. Under the anointed
tutelage of the late Elder Willie George Baylor, Sr. and his spiritual mother First Lady
Mattie Baylor, Edward repented of his sins and was baptized in the matchless name
of Jesus Christ. During a Sunday morning service at what is fondly called “Old Faith”,
Edward became a new creature in Christ Jesus. He was filled with the gift of the Holy
Ghost with the evidence of speaking in an unknown tongue. He rolled in the floor and
spoke in his new language for many hours.
In 1977, the Lord prospered him in a zealous ministry with a “Hell, Fire, and
Brimstone” message. After working for many years in the vineyard, this preacher was
called to minister this true and living gospel as an Apostolic pastor. He and his wife,
First Lady Hattie, and his sister were blessed with the courage to step out on faith
after a two week tent revival in 1986. God made him shepherd over Jesus Is All
Church of God Apostolic. The membership was made up of a few small families which
only numbered about 12 people. In 1992, the Lord blessed the church to move out
of that small social hall to 2147 Kienlen Avenue, Hillsdale, Missouri. After 13 years
fellowshipping here, the Lord predestined a new location for the family. In 2006, the
Jesus Is All Family Worship Center family united, purchased, and moved to a new
location at 1524 East Grand Boulevard...the former House of Deliverance Church.
Edward married his high school sweetheart in 1970, the late Linda Diane Wallace. To
this union, three children where born. He later met and married Hattie Deloris
Tucker. To this union, two children were born. Edward was a loving husband and
father to his blended family. They were not exempt from the spiritual requirement of
holiness.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife ~ Hattie; eleven children ~
LaDonia, Ronald (Tiara), Tonya, Timothy (Jakia), Kimberly, Catrina (Michael), Sylvia
(Christopher), Dwayne (Lamontria), Devin (Jenese), Shirnett, and Ray; twenty-five
grandchildren ~ Chardae (Cortez), Jada, Jotham, Judah, Darius, Faith, Hope, Charity
Love, Stephen, Solomon, Trinity, Charity, Destiny, Danielle, Christopher Jr., Kaneesha,
Jasmine, Danielle, Olivia, Brielle, Karis, Rachael, Destiny, Autumn, and Christian; his
mother ~ Dorothy; one sister ~ Geraldine; two brothers ~ Cedric Sr. (Deborah) and
Lafayette (Angel); eight nieces and nephews ~ Kevin (Shantanya), Alexius, Arlene,
Cedric Jr., Chris, Jennifer, Jordan, and Jonathan; and a host of extended family
members, church family members, and friends.
Sentimental Expressions
You were a great husband, father, and friend. You worked hard for the Lord and you worked
hard for your family. I will cherish the memories I have of you forever.

Dad, I will truly miss you. Your life was a testimony that wasn’t just talked out, but you walked
it out. I treasure the example of the Godly life style that you have set before me. Pray for me
while you’re in heaven that I continue on the foundation of the Lord that you have set. I can’t
wait to see you again.

Your little Hattie Jr. will continue to take care of Hattie Sr. I will also continue to keep myself,
graduate next semester with my paralegal degree, and graduate from law school with honors.
It’s already paid for. It was your time considering you did the work of about three men put
together! So daddy, you and Arthur Roy rest while I finish off the demons that are left!

Thank you for being a great example of a hard worker. You showed me how a man should
take care of his family. You even tried to hook me up with a few dates on occasion....and that
was hilarious! Thank you for being able to keep your humor through any situation.:) You will
be greatly missed. Love you.

Well, you are certainly one of a kind, unique in your own ways. You were a person that had no
problems sharing and helping others when you could that loved to laugh and have lots of fun
in a ‘kiddish’ way. Well, despite all of the tests and trials that you faced in this life, it’s all over
now. You finally made it to where you can rest and have peace, joy and happiness everlasting!

First, knowing him as an enthusiastic preacher and singer, one couldn't help but be intrigued
with a smile on their faces, to see that he was fanatical for Christ. As a father, he was a good
provider and had a way of handling situations...some to make you laugh and some to make
you cry. What I admire the most was his courage, passion, and work ethic. He took on the
most difficult task with optimism, believing that he could achieve what he set out to do. His
drive for achieving has truly influenced my life. To my family and friends, keep the faith and
live life to the fullest. I love you all…and remember love conquers all.

He was the only DAD I've ever known and I am very
grateful for that. One of the hardest workers I've ever
met. He has always been there for his family without
fail. I appreciate so many things he was able to offer
me in life and I will miss him dearly.

hell’ lifestyle with the same unyielding fervor that you
taught all of your natural and spiritual children. When
you were right you rubbed it in. If and when you were
finally convinced you were wrong, you apologized. I
love that you loved people, shared everything, hated
the devil, accessed heaven, spoke in tongues at the
thought of God’s goodness, paid your way, paid for
others, and laughed long and hard. You loved Jesus,
your own wife, family, the church, and the truth.
There are few men of your character and stature.
Your legacy of true holiness will LIVE! Thank you so
