The concert’s success on April 21st was followed by a visit from Maher Zain and Mesut Kurtis to SCHS’s main branch in Sharjah. The artists were provided with a tour and interacted with children from various departments. 37th Deaf Week Continues with Informative Lectures and Workshops Al Amal School for Deaf cooperated with many institutes and entities in Sharjah to coordinate a Deaf week that included lectures to the public, workshops for the deaf community & participation in the arts. Students performed at Bait al Shamsi Arts Area with training from artist Tarek Atoui in a performance titled “Under 160 MHz”. “Creative Hands” Exhibition in Sharjah’s Central Souq SCHS’ Vocational Training & Rehabilitation Department will be showcasing its student made products in Sharjah’s Central Souq for sale to the general public. His Excellency Abdullah Bin Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development in Sharjah, and several of his colleagues inaugurated the exhibition. AROUND THE WORLD New Genes Contributing to Autism Discovered; Genetic Links Between Neurodevelopment & Psychiatric Disorders Researchers from 15 institutions in three countries conducting investigations have discovered chromosomal abnormalities in 33 genes linked to Autism and other clinical situations. Further study of balanced chromosome abnormalities (BCAs) allows scientists to screen genomes of individuals who found breakpoints and rearrangements in genes which caused disruptions in non-protein coding regions. (© Lily Fotolia) Thailand Takes First Steps on Long Road to Inclusive Mainstream Education Nuey’s story of having Down’s Syndrome meant she nearly had to attend a boarding school over 80Km from her home to be provided with an education but her ending is one of the many benefits of Thailand’s new Inclusive Education policy. Through policy change and foundations like the “Good Child Foundation” Thailand is on its way to a complete inclusive mainstream education.
