This was the first larger Agricultural PV installation that Maden Eco carried out
in September 2011. The farm is predominantly a potato growing concern that
uses a lot of power.
This installation used the 280watt Suntech solar panels with K2 Speedrail
secured to insulated kingspan with techscrews. The inverters are SMA Tripower
transformerless.
The south facing aspect of the farm is great for solar production and over the
first two years there has been overproduction against the yield figures we
reported on.
We are pleased to report that Mr Dagg has kindly recommended us to several
interested parties and has gone on to install a further 100kw taking his installed
capacity to 150kw.

Crailing Tofts is a farm enterprise run by Mike & Karen Dagg. The main focus of
the farm is potatoes and as such the chilling demand is high. We first met Mr
Dagg a few years ago when FBR land agents asked us to appraise the site for
them. We specified a 50kw system. This has run well and now the farm is
demanding more energy and the price of energy has risen.
In our second visit to Crainling tofts we added a further 100kw of solar this time
using German Axitec panels and the same SMA inverters as in the last visit.
The site power able to be produced now from solar will nudge 145,000kWh in a
good year.
We are planning to introduce a cycle where the chilling is more intense during
the day and the program adjusted to rain back through the night.
The new system was installed in Jan/Feb 2014.
The farm at Crailing Tofts is immaculate and we hope that our standards in
installation match the clients, we have had many kind recommendations from
Mr Dagg and have also installed for his cousin who farms near by.

Dods of Haddington are well known in the farming community for the top
quality seed varieties they sell throughout Scotland and northern
England.
We were invited by Mr Joe Harper to come and give a talk to the directors
on the merits of commercial solar and after surveying the sheds and
looking at the business we gave a fair report on what commercial PV from
Maden Eco could do for the business.
The system has consistently outperformed since its installation in March

Maden Eco identified East Lothian Produce as being a perfect installation site
for commercial solar, we approached the site manager and he invited us to
speak with the business owner Billy Logan. After an extensive period of survey
and verification into what size the system would be best for the business we
were engaged to scope out the structural integrity of the sheds and then we
proceeded to install. The sheds in the main were box profile kingspan insulated
sheeting and as such we installed using k2 speedrail which allows for a tight
on-roof finish especially well suited to high wind exposure locations.
The business of East Lothian Produce is primarily a field to supermarket
enterprise with the main supermarkets being the key customer base. The large
energy load is through the chilling cabinets in the sheds and by installing
100kw of commercial solar we can reduce the bought in power by around 25%
per year.
On survey we reported 78,000kwh of yield predicted, the system actually
produced 87,432kwh last year, this amounted to some 9,432kwh of over
production, the site operators were pleased with this. If this over production
continues there will be a surplus earnings equal to the install cost of the system.
The client has kindly referred us to other customers since installation.

Iain Brown of Pitenweem Fife was recommended by East lothian Produce to
give Maden Eco the opportunity to survey the site at Easter Grangemuir Farm.
After successfully quoting for the install and moving to the build stage, the
installation went live at the end of July 2013, at the six month point the array
has overproduced by 24%.
The system fixed to the ground using K2 N-rack bolted onto concrete runners is
mostly aluminium with stainless steel. The panels are mounted at around 35
degrees and true south which is the optimum for solar generation.
The inverters have been located securely in a shed away from the array and
three security posts fixed into the floor in front to prevent machinery reversing
into them.
The farm enterprise is mainly fruit and veg and as such there is a high demand
for chilling and process equipment running.

Maden Eco met with Presidents Estate in Northumberland a few years
ago and due to digressions and planning and grid capacity did not go
ahead at that time.
As the cost of commercial solar dropped we met up again and it was
decided to install a much larger system 166kw at the site.
The grid capacity was worked through by Maden Eco grid department
and a capacity offer was secured.
Installation took around three weeks and was started in October 2013.
This system took advantage of the 5 year Project Performance Package
which is managed by remote server through a web-box giving the site
and us an email daily and an email telling us of an event failure within 4
hours, the yield is also protected and the inverters warranted for 5 years.
If the site is down as a result of inverter failure the insured warranty pays
out at three times the rate of Fit. This is an extremely strong product
offer.

John Meikle originally contacted us after we installed a system for his cousin
near North Berwick. He was interested in solar pv but at the time we were
unable to offer a solution. This challenge set our engineers a task and with the
help of Hilti we were able to engineer a solution which clamps the pre-cast
concrete and the studs then continue up through the sheeting and the heavier
rail section runs from portal to portal and this ensures that no load is put onto
the existing concrete purlins as the hook bolts are no use for solar fixings.
This type of installation is not the quickest and does cost more than a standard
install but we are still more than happy to carry out this type of installation. Each
clamp has to be made to measure as shown in the picture across.
The panels and inverters are just the same as a standard system.

Kilmux Farm, Fife is a mixed farm rearing cattle and crops. The farm is owned
and managed by Bill Arnott.
The installation completed in January 2014 is to provide power to the site as
well as income from feed-in-tariff.
The days are short in January so the team took lighting with them to keep the
installation on track.
The arrays were installed on two roofs one south facing and the other west
facing.
The roof covering is cement fibre and as such we use a two stage fixing
manufactured by German company K2 which replaces an existing roof bolt with
the fixing and then goes on to carry the rail. To the rail is clamped the panel
which at this project a German designed Axitec panel was specified.
The system will yield between 38,000 and 46,000 kWh per annum depending
on the weather.
The inverter supplied here was SMA tripower with a standard 5 year warranty.
As this system was on fibre cement as standard we net under the installation
during construction.

Maden Eco will go the extra mile to ensure that the quality and workmanship of
your project is at its best. We use far more clip and track to support the
armoured cables coming from the roof to the inverters than our competitors.
Around the inverter location as can be seen in the pictures we will build a
racking panel and securely mount the equipment placing all the cables into box
trunking and clearly labelling what all the isolators and components are.
Alongside every location is a schematic clearly showing the system so that any
other electricians visiting site can see what equipment is and what is DC and
what is AC.
Every installation is backed up with a pre-installation visit followed by a
supervised installation and a thorough handover with you and your site
operators.
