B2MM-0911-9009SS FRAUD ...and its effect on you We all fear becoming a victim of identity theft or fraud. Checking your credit report, using our free eAlerts service, and being vigilant about your account all help you protect yourself from falling victim. Here are some other instances you may not have thought of… Traveling Some of the highest instances of fraud in this country happen in travel destinations such as Florida, Texas, and California. Fraudsters in these areas often target debit cards. Because of that, we ask that you notify us if you’re traveling out of state and intend to use your debit card. This will help us monitor possible fraudulent transactions. We also recommend you have more than one form of payment available to you when traveling (credit cards, cash, traveler’s cheques). Password Security Recent research has found that many people re-use online passwords. With so many sites asking you to log in and create a password, people often find it easiest to re-use passwords. Even with outstanding virus protection and anti-spyware, you could still be at risk. How you ask? The websites you visit keep login information in a database. If cyber thieves target that site and steal your login info, they could then target your financial accounts using the stolen password. The browser security service, Trusteer, recommends you have at least three sets of passwords: one for financial web sites only, another for nonfinancial sites that house sensitive info about you, and a third for web sites that don’t contain any confidential information at all.
