Salem Recreation Department Programs and Information Town Hall, 33 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH (603) 890-2140 www.townofsalemnh.org Registrations are now open for spring programs. If space is available, non-residents may register for an additional $10 registration fee. Program start dates and locations are subject to change and should be verified during registration. Registration fees are due when enrolling. Individuals must register at the Recreation Department in the lower level of the Town Hall or online by clicking the online registration link under Recreation Department. Residents can also do so at AdminSports.com. Please register between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday thru Friday. Registrations are accepted on a first come first serve basis, space is limited. Note: due to meetings, training or other activities, the department may be closed at times. If you are planning on visiting us, you may call us at 890-2003 prior to coming in to ensure someone is available to assist you. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES The Salem Recreation Department is accepting applications for 2016 summer positions. Deadline for applications is March 18th or until positions are filled. Job applications may be picked up at the Recreation Department, Human Resources Department or on-line at www.townofsalemnh.org. Applicants must be at least 16 yrs. old for the following positions: Playground Leaders for children ANNUAL FISHING DERBY—SATURDAY, APRIL 23rd Our Annual Fishing Derby will be held at Hedgehog Park, 53 Lowell Road, on Saturday, April 23. The Fishing Derby is FREE and open to children 15 years old and younger. The Greater Salem NH Rotary Club sponsors this annual event. Participants sign up on the day of the Derby: children 8 years old and younger register between 8:30 and 9:00am and fish from 9:00-10:15am. We request no one fish at Hedgehog prior to the Fishing Derby. Children ages 9 to 15 register at 9:30am and fish from 10:2011:20am. Awards will follow at the end of the derby for each age group. Prizes will be awarded to the smallest and largest fish caught per age category. Only ONE prize per person will be awarded … lots of other prizes will be raffled off, along with one boy and girl being honored with the ‘Chuck Black Most Spirited Fishing Award’. This event runs rain or shine. ages 6 to 10 (20-24 hrs/wk) Adventure Camp Leader for children ages 11 to 15 (10-35 hrs/wk) Lifeguards (15-40 hrs/wk) Beach Attendant (15-40 hrs/wk) Tennis Instructor (20-24 hrs/wk) 2016-17 PALMER SCHOOL PROGRAM The Recreation Dept. is accepting registration for the Palmer School located in North Salem. The program is designed to focus on the unique developments of 3 and 4 year old children. Classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to noon, September thru May 2017. Please call (603) 890-2140 for additional information. Enrollment is limited. KARATE programs continue on Fridays from 4:00-5:00pm and is sponsored by Salem Recreation in conjunction with Salem Kenpo Academy (224 No. Broadway). Wearing comfortable clothing is recommended. This program is for children ages 4 to 15 years old. Resident Fee: $45. Non-resident: $55. Session 3: April 1—May 6 Session 4: May 13—June 17 GRANITE STATE TRACK & FIELD GRANITE STATE TRACK & FIELD (formerly known as Hershey Track & Field) This youth program provides a quality recreation and school program where children have fun as they are introduced to physical fitness through basic track and field events such as running, jumping and throwing. It is for children ages 9 to 14 and held at Salem High School (track meets held elsewhere). Most Track & Field days will be held on Wednesday’s but due to track availability, a different day or time might be scheduled. Resident fee: $35. Non-resident fee: $45. May 18- July 15 5:30-6:30pm Summer Program information will be listed in our Summer Brochure available in mid-May via mail to residents and posted on the Recreation Department’s web page at www.townofsalemnh.org. as well as the department’s Facebook Page. Our program offers plenty of exercise. Different games will be played each week. This 4-week program is for adults over 18 and held at the Fisk Elementary School on Tuesdays, March 29th, April 5th, April 12th, and April 19th from 6:157:45pm. Resident Fee: $15. Non-Resident: $25. Breathe, NH Fun Pass Book You can now purchase a NH Fun Pass Booklet at the Recreation Department. These booklets are full of coupons to attractions at over 100 places in and around New Hampshire including amusement parks (including Canobie Lake Park), zoos, museums, ski mountains and more. The Fun Pass Book costs $32, but has coupons for over $1,800. The Storyland coupon alone will save you the price of the booklet. Please contact the Recreation Department with questions or to purchase a fun pass booklet. FIELD OF DREAMS CLEAN-UP DAY SATURDAY, MAY 7 @ 8:301:00PM H elp is needed to shape up the park for the season and summer concerts. Come and help out for as much time as you can share. The parks Annual Spring Clean-up is a great opportunity to help and give back to your community. If you have rakes, gloves, shovels, clippers and energy to share, please come May 7 and help out. Rain date is May 14. SALEM SPECIAL OLYMPIC DEVILS The Special Olympic NH Regional Basketball Assessments will be held on March 12th (Unified) at Hudson High School & March 13th (Traditional) at Keene State College. Please contact the Rec. Dept. if you are interested in helping out. SALEM NH FARMERS MARKET is open year round and all products are grown or produced by local farmers and vendors including: vegetables, greens, fruits, milk, yogurt, cheese, meat, poultry, eggs, maple syrup, honey, prepared foods, breads, jams and artisan crafts. RCC’S COMMUNITY EGG HUNT— Rockingham Christian Church’s Community Egg Hunt will be held on March 26th at Soule Elementary School with festivities starting at 10am. There will be 2 separate Egg Hunts: 5 and Under begins at 11:30am & 6-10 years old will begin at 1pm. Festivities will also include: face painting, balloon animals, inflatables, popcorn and a live band. The Salem Community is invited to join in celebrating the Easter season. For more info, visit www.rccsalem.com. The New Hamp- shire Recreation & Park Association (NHRPA) is offering discount tickets to Attitash/Wildcat Mountain, Bromley Mountain, and Cranmore Mountain. Save up to $15 a ticket! Ticket sales for the 2016 season will begin in December. Please come to the Salem Recreation Department purchase your Lift Tickets. Limited number of tickets available. FIELD SPORTS PROGRAM Location: Wal-Mart Multi-Purpose Field Cost: $15/residents $25/non-residents When: Mondays @ 3:30PM-5:00PM for 5 weeks starting Monday, March 28th through Monday, April 25th For Ages 8-12 years old. Games will range from Capture the Flag, Wiffle Ball, and Soccer to new games such as Speedball, Handball, and Frisbee Golf! New teams will be chosen each week. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, March 25th OUTDOOR FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE For ages 10-17. Games will be played at the Wal-Mart Multi-Purpose Field on Fridays starting at 3:45PM for a total of five weeks starting Friday, April 1st. Teams will consist of 4-6 participants. The number of teams will depend upon the number of registrants. Teams will be divided by age groups: 10-12 years old, 13-14 years old, and 15-17 years old. Every team will make the playoffs with a chance to win the championship! An informational meeting will take place prior to the first games on April 1st . Coaches needed as well! COST: $15/resident, $25/non-resident Registration Deadline: Tues. March 29th ULTIMATE FRISBEE LEAGUE FOR AGES 10-14 YEARS OLD Welcoming NEW & EXPERIENCED Frisbee players to join the Recreation Department in a great way to get outdoors while playing a fast-paced and unique sport! Team sign-ups encouraged but are not necessary. A minimum of 10 people are needed in order to run the program—so don’t wait to register! $15/resident, $25/ non-resident. Ultimate Frisbee will begin on Wednesday, March 30th for 5 weeks and end on Wednesday, April 27th. Time: 3:30-4:30PM Deadline: Monday, March 28th Location: Wal-Mart Multi-Purpose Field DESIGN THE SALEM RECREATION DEPARTMENT’S NEW LOGO!!! Please use the template below for your design on what you feel best represents ‘Salem Recreation’ and a winner will be chosen from the submissions at the end of April. Open to ALL Ages. Must be a Salem Resident. The winner of the ‘Logo Contest’ will receive a $50 Credit* towards Recreation Programs taking place in Salem, a feature on Cable Access, and a T-shirt with the New Recreation Logo.
