Sponsorship INFORMATION Festival Overview MArch 13-15, 2015 Celebrating it’s 14th year in 2015, Nederland, Colorado’s Frozen Dead Guy Days is known as one of the most unique and quirky festivals in the country and continues to be a world-renowned spectacle. The home-grown frosty fest pays homage to Bredo Morstol who is frozen in a state of suspended animation and housed in a Tuff Shed on dry ice high above Nederland. Thousands of adventurous, life enthusiasts come annually to participate in and view the events along with local, national and international media. Colorado’s “most frigidly fun festival” features outrageous events like the Blue Ball, coffin races, costumed polar plunge, ice turkey bowling, frozen T-shirt and brain freeze contests, snowy beach volleyball, a parade of hearses and the frozen salmon toss. It all takes place amid an incredible free music festival featuring Colorado’s most talented acts in an “eccentric cross between morbid and hilarious that permeates the weekend’s atmosphere.” In addition to more than a decade of media coverage around the world (including television shows from Japan, Belgium, Canada and Russia), Frozen Dead Guy Days has won the Governor’s Award for Best Promotional Event in Colorado, was named one of the Top Five Winter Festivals in the Country by Readers Digest, has donned the pages of the New York Times, Southwest Airlines’ Spirit magazine and made the Top Ten lists of Lonely Planet and Hotels.com in 2012. CNN has the event listed as one of the Best Costumed Festivals in the Country and the story of the Grandpa Bredo was featured on the Travel Channel’s, Monumental Mysteries. Festival Highlights Coffin Races Polar Plunge Grandpa’s Blue Ball Music Festival The annual Coffin Races are a highlight of FDGD. They attract the most spectators and a high number of decked-out participants. Teams of seven compete for the fastest time through an obstacle course of snow features. The top four teams from preliminary rounds compete in a final race. Awards are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, best coffin and most spirit. The Costumed Polar Plunge is another very popular event at FDGD. It attracts thousands of viewers and numerous participants looking for the “full frozen experience.” Plungers are announced and then take a dramatic leap into a frozen pond. A changing booth, towels and warming hut are provided by sponsors. A portion of the proceeds go to a local non-profit. Friday evening kicks off FDGD with Grandpa’s Blue Ball. Always outrageous and entertaining, it features the Grandpa Bredo Look-alike and Ice Queen Costume Contests. Prizes are awarded and all “blue ballers” are treated to one-of-a-kind party favors and more. Popular Colorado bands round out the evening, making the event something not to be missed. Each year, FDGD presents free live music, featuring some of the hottest local and regional acts. The Re-Animate Yourself Tent in Chipeta Park and the Brain Freezer Tent on First Street showcase amazing talent with state of the art lighting and sound from Sweetwave Audio while local bars and restaurants continue the festivities late into the evening.
