Peripheral Technology™ ensures sharper peripheral imaging and motion detection. The
result is a high wrap prescription sunglass that delivers not just crisp acuity, but a clearer
periphery and fluidity of vision across high wrap lenses.
CENTRAL AND PERIPHERAL VISION IN HIGH WRAP FRAMES
While athletes require sharp straight-ahead vision, sports like cycling, running or
basketball are highly dependent on peripheral vision to sense objects, opponents and
motion. Ordinary wrap sunwear can add blur and distortion to the required lens periphery,
making this field of vision unusable. As a result, athletes are forced to rotate their head,
“taking their eye off the ball” and sacrificing seconds or losing when a win was possible.
Central vision is used for scrutinizing highly detailed objects when time is a luxury, and
this includes everything from target shooting to targeting a golf flag. But it also makes a
difference when there is little time, such as when a tennis player serves a ball or a hitter
eyes the spin on a pitched baseball. In both cases, acute vision determines how the ball
is handled.
Peripheral vision is used for organizing the broad spatial scene, and making split-second
decisions that make a difference. For example, a cyclist must stay focused on the road
ahead while maintaining awareness of competitors looking to pass.

digitized for high wrap frames. Oakley True Digital is for the athlete and sports enthusiast
who demand the best vision possible. Oakley True Digital considers the patients prescription,
lens base curve, and frame shape to optimize the lens’ prescription from the optical center
to edge. It provides the clearest possible vision from center through mid and far periphery.
CENTRAL PERFORMANCE
The prescription is corrected for the wrap angle, which if naively filled with standard lenses,
would add unwanted prism and power, typically distorting the frame, and making the lenses
unwearable. Instead, Oakley True Digital corrects for the required three-dimensional view
reducing unwanted prism and adjusting for power errors. It also uses a lens base curve that
matches the curve and shape of the frame. The result is great looks and excellent acuity,
binocularity and comfort.

Oakley True Digital lenses feature Oakley Dual Peripheral Technology delivering the best
peripheral image and motion recognition possible, maximizing athletes’ performance.
This technology breaks the peripheral zone into two areas: Mid and Far periphery.
Mid-Periphery Vision
Mid-peripheral field is defined as vision out to 25° each side of center. The mid periphery is
used to form large images. For the two eyes to provide binocular vision across the lens, sharp
vision without a prism imbalance is preferred. Oakley True Digital lenses are specifically
designed to reduce prism imbalance in the mid-periphery.
FAR-PERIPHERY VISION
Far-Periphery is defined as vision out to 30° each side of center. The Far-Periphery is used for
image and motion detection. Image and motion detection can be improved if blur, unwanted
astigmatism and power error, are minimized. Oakley True Digital lenses are specifically
designed to reduce power error and unwanted astigmatism in the far-periphery.
