Benefiting Special Olympics Broward County and its Athletes making a difference NEWSLETTER www.pinioninc.com SUMMER 2013 “Pinion Goes to Hawaii” Summer FUNdraiser to Benefit Special Olympics Broward County O by Valerie Peru n August 23, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Pinion, Benefiting Special Olympics, will celebrate under the stars as they raise funds for Special Olympics and its very special Athletes. Presented by Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, Pinion’s annual summer FUNdraiser will be a Hawaiian Luau, featuring cocktails, food, music and dancing poolside at the fabulous oceanfront Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Pinion, Inc. is the financial arm of Special Olympics Broward County, providing the funds needed to give children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports. The program offers these special athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, fellow Special Olympics athletes and the community. Revelers will dance under the stars, gaze at the ocean vista, and enjoy tropical cocktails, a traditional Hawaiian kalua pig roast and Hawaiian fire and hula entertainment, while dancing to the fabulous spinning tunes of renowned DJ Nova. The event will feature fabulous silent and live auction prizes. All proceeds directly support Special Olympics Broward County to help these very special athletes’ dreams come true. Tickets are $75 including a Malibu Blue Hawaii welcome cocktail, two drink tickets and delicious Hawaii-themed food, and can be purchased at www.blacktie-southflorida.com/calendar/event-detailbt.cfm?id=9109 or the night of the event at Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, 505 North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304. Sponsorships are still available, and will include prominent display in promotional and onsite materials. President's Corner by Marian McCray-DeLoach G reetings! I am so proud and happy to serve as Pinion’s President for the 2013-2014 year. I have been a member of Pinion and served on its Board in various officership positions for the past sixteen years. Pinion consists of a very unique and wonderful group of people, and I have grown personally and made many life-lasting friendships through my association with Pinion! Pinion already has several Fundraising events planned for the new season. I hope you will get them on your calendar and are able to attend. Our Past President Alice Harry started the Pinion Passion Hours, now taken over by the very vivacious Valerie Peru, which have been a huge success for our organization and brought together many new faces in the community. We will, of course, by popular demand continue those. You may keep track of our Passion Hour dates by following us on Facebook: PinionBenefitingSpecialOlympics or Twitter: @PinionSOBC. This is the best $10 you ever spent for a drink, appetizers and funship! Pinion is kicking off the season with its first event at the beautiful oceanfront Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort on Friday evening, August 23, 2013. Themed “Pack Your Bags: Pinion Goes to Hawaii, Hilton Style,” we are sure you will not want to miss this Luau-styled party. Headed up by Valerie Peru, the committee has been very busy working on this … but having lots of fun along the way, of course! Our next event in the Fall will be what has become a “signature” event of Pinion’s … at The Capital Grille, no less. Who doesn’t like to go there for a fun luncheon? Our gals Kitty McGowan, Lisa ScottFounds and Lee Sheffield know how to put on this party for sure; yet they aren’t quite ready to reveal their theme – but judging from previous events there, we know it’s going to be faboo. “Save The Date” for Friday, October 11, 2013! One of our most SPECIALEVENTS is that of the Spring/ Summer Special Olympics Games – usually held in March. If you want to put a smile on your face and feel gratitude in your heart – this is the event to attend!!! This is “what it’s all about” for Pinion – working hard, raising money, (having fun) to see our Special Olympians strive and achieve, put smiles on their faces and glee in their hearts, and have a sense of accomplishment. We will keep you posted on the date for this very SPECIAL event! Pinion has had an exceptional boost in its membership this year – WOO HOO! Now that we have all of you new members, we would LOVE to get to know you better. Please know that you do not have to be on the Board to serve and be active on a committee for one of our events in which you think you might be interested and have fun. And we certainly encourage and welcome our GENTLEMEN members as well!!! For all things Pinion, please remember to check the calendar on Pinion’s website http://www:pinioninc.com and Facebook: PinionBenefitingSpecialOlympics, as well as Twitter: @PinionSOBC to keep up on all of our event dates and to make reservations. Yes, Pinion is up and running in the Social Media world!! And very importantly - please Come Find Fun and Friendship with Pinion this year!!! Marian Pinion, Inc.
