sulla spiaggia continuano per tutto il giorno: dall’aquagym alla ginnastica, dai tornei di bocce, pingpong o racchettoni sino all’intramontabile gara con
le biglie, oggi più conosciuta come cheecoting, non
mancano le occasioni per fare movimento e divertirsi in compagnia.
E la sera si spengono le voci della spiaggia e lasciano
il posto alla musica, alle conversazioni nei bar
all’aperto, alle piccole e grandi sorprese del centro e
del lungomare.

Our tireless entertainment team offer beach
activities throughout the day: aqua fitness,
gymnastics, boules, table tennis or beach tennis, as
well as the evergreen marbles tournaments – today
known as cheecoting. Plenty of ideas to work out
and have fun together. At night, the voices at the
beach fade away and leave room to music, chatting
at outdoor bars, lots of surprises downtown and on
the seafront.

Begriff Cheecoting bekannt ist). Sicherlich fehlt

la danse de salon. Ceux qui aiment se réveiller en
douceur, peuvent démarrer la journée avec une
balade en bord de mer, en regardant le lever du soleil
qui chauffe la peau et les cœurs aussi… Grâce à
une équipe d’animateurs infatigable, les activités à
la plage se poursuivent toute la journée : aquagym,
gymnastique, tournois de boules, ping-pong ou beach
tennis, mais aussi les compétitions traditionnelles de
billes, appelées aujourd’hui cheecoting : beaucoup
d’occasions de faire de l’activité physique et de
s’amuser en toute convivialité.
Le soir, les voix à la plage s’estompent pour laisser

Dalla primavera all’autunno sono tanti gli
appuntamenti musicali da non perdere.
“Romagna Mia”, inno di questa terra, è nata proprio
qui, insieme alla celeberrima dinastia dei Casadei.
Ad inizio e fine stagione, due intere settimane sono
dedicate al Liscio con una rassegna musicale, che
raccoglie le migliori orchestre romagnole. In luglio
la “Notte Rosa”, il Capodanno dell’estate romagnola,
unisce tutta la costa in una notte all’insegna del
puro divertimento. Colore, musica ed allegria
caratterizzano “I Love city”, il Festival degli anni ‘80
che richiama i migliori rappresentanti di quell’epoca
d’oro. La “Settimana della Micizia”, per tutti gli
amanti dei gatti ma non solo, offre un’occasione
unica per ammirare opere dedicate al simpatico
felino, ma anche intrattenimento per bambini ed
originali concorsi in spiaggia. “Ferragosto Live”
propone sempre spettacoli spumeggianti e ricchi di
adrenalina.

Romagna, was created here, as was the renowned
Casadei’s dynasty. At the beginning and at the end
of the summer, two full weeks are dedicated to
ballroom dancing, with the participation of the best
bands of Romagna. In July, the “Notte Rosa” is the
New Year’s Eve of summer in Romagna: a night of
pure entertainment celebrated everywhere along the
coast. Colour, music and fun are the key elements
of “I Love city”, the ‘80s Festival, attracting the best
representatives of that golden age. The “Settimana
della Micizia” (Cats Festival) for cat lovers and not
only, proposes exhibitions dedicated to these friendly
animals, as well as entertainment for children and
unusual contests at the beach. “Ferragosto Live”
offers thrilling and exciting shows.

Vom Frühjahr bis hin in den späten Herbst hinein,
werden verschiedene Konzerte in allen musikalischen
Richtungen aufgeführt, die Sie nicht verpassen
sollten. Die Melodie „Romagna Mia“, die Hymne
dieses Landes, entstand gerade hier zusammen mit
der berühmten Dynastie der Familie Casadei. Am
Anfang und Ende des Sommers werden anlässlich
eines Musikfestivals unter der Mitwirkung der
besten Ensembles aus der Romagna, zwei Wochen
dem „Liscio“ gewidmet. Im Juli findet die „Notte
Rosa“ statt, das Neujahrsfest des Sommers in dieser
Gegend, das die gesamte Küste eine ganze Nacht
lang zum puren Vergnügen einlädt. Farbe, Musik und
Fröhlichkeit sind die Charakterzüge von „I Love City“
- ein Festspiel zur Huldigung der Achtziger Jahre, das
die besten Darsteller jener goldenen Zeit anzieht. Die
„Settimana della Micizia” (das Fest der Katze) ist allen
Katzenliebhabern gewidmet und bietet außerdem
die Möglichkeit, Kunstwerke zu bestaunen, die
dem sympathischen Tier gewidmet sind, aber auch
Unterhaltung für Kinder und originelle StrandWettbewerbe. Prickelnde und spannende Spektakel
werden anlässlich von „Ferragosto Live“ geboten.

“Notte Rosa”, le Nouvel An estival de Romagne : une
nuit de divertissement célébrée le long de toute la
côte. Couleur, musique et divertissement sont les
ingrédients de “I Love city”, le Festival des années ‘80
qui attire les meilleurs représentants de ces années
d’or. La “Settimana della Micizia” (Fête des chats)
n’est pas dédiée uniquement à ceux qui aiment les
chats : on peut admirer des œuvres consacrées aux
félins, mais également profiter de l’animation pour
les enfants et participer à des compétitions originales
à la plage. “Ferragosto Live” propose toujours des
spectacles pétillants et dynamiques.

Meritano senz’altro una visita Cesena (19 km),
con l’antica Biblioteca Malatestiana, monumento
UNESCO, Ravenna (34 km), con i suoi mosaici
patrimonio mondiale dell’umanità e Rimini (15
km), nota per il divertimento, ma anche per i
preziosi monumenti. Vicinissime sono Cesenatico
(5 km) con il porto-canale leonardesco sul quale
si affaccia un interessante museo della marineria
e San Mauro Pascoli (8 km), dove si può visitare la
casa natale del poeta Giovanni Pascoli. Le colline
dell’entroterra sono costellate da deliziosi paesini,
come Longiano (20 km) e Sogliano (26 km) e da
numerose e antichissime pievi. Il Pascoli cantava:
“L’azzurra vision di San Marino” e non si può certo
dargli torto: il panorama visto dalla vetta della più
antica repubblica del mondo vi stupirà. Per chi è
alla ricerca del puro divertimento i più famosi parchi
tematici sono facilmente raggiungibili: imperdibili le
attrazioni di Mirabilandia (20 km) nel ravennate, gli
emozionanti scivoli di Aquafan (30 km) a Riccione e
per i più piccoli i parchi di Fiabilandia (25 km) e Italia
in Miniatura (14 km) a Rimini.

the UNESCO world heritage mosaics, and Rimini (15

the canal harbour designed by Leonardo da Vinci
and the interesting Marine Museum, and San Mauro
Pascoli (8 km), where you can visit the birth house
of the poet Giovanni Pascoli. The inland hills are
scattered with lovely villages like Longiano (20 km)
and Sogliano (26 km), as well as numberless very
old parish churches. The poet Pascoli rightly wrote
“L’azzurra vision di San Marino” (The blue vision
of San Marino): you’ll be astonished by the view
you can enjoy from the top of the oldest Republic
in the world. If you’re looking for great fun, head to
the amusement parks: do not miss the attractions
of Mirabilandia (20 km), in the province of Ravenna,
or the thrilling water slides of Aquafan (30 km) in
Riccione. Fiabilandia (25 km) and the miniature park
‘Italia in Miniatura’ (14 km), in Rimini, are dedicated
to children.

San Mauro Pascoli (8 km), wo man das Geburtshaus
des Dichters Giovanni Pascoli besuchen kann. In der
Hügellandschaft des Hinterlands sind entzückende
Dörfer eingebettet, wie zum Beispiel Longiano
(20 km) und Sogliano (26 km) sowie zahlreiche,
besonders alte Kirchen. Der Dichter Giovanni Pascoli
lobte „l’azzurra vision di San Marino“ (den blauen
Anblick von San Marino) und wie kann man ihm auch

von Fiabilandia (25 km) lohnt, sowie von Italia in
Miniatura (14 km), die bei Rimini gelegen sind.

Sulla tavola
La gastronomia di Gatteo, a base di pesce freschissimo,
offre il meglio della cucina marinara tradizionale,
accompagnata dalla tipica piadina romagnola e vini
locali come il Sangiovese, il Trebbiano, l’Albana e il
Pagadebit. Non si può partire senza aver gustato un
piatto a base di pesce azzurro dell’Adriatico fatto di
saraghina, sgombri, alicette o la rinomata pasta fatta
in casa.

Die Gastronomie von Gatteo bietet eine besonders
reichhaltige Auswahl an traditionellen, frischen
Fischgerichten. Dazu werden die typischen „Piadina“
(Brotfladen) und örtlichen Weine wie Sangiovese,
Trebbiano, Albana und Pagadebit serviert. Man kann
nicht von hier weg, ohne einen Teller Blaufisch aus
der Adria gekostet zu haben (eine Mischung aus
Sprotten, Makrelen und kleinen Sardellen) oder die
berühmten hausgemachten Nudelgerichte.

LINA PAGLIUGHI
Ha scelto Gatteo Mare come suo ritiro (dove morì
nel 1980) la cantante lirica Lina Pagliughi, celebrata
sui palcoscenici di tutto il mondo per la dolcezza
della voce e la tenerezza del canto (prestò la voce
alle canzoni di Biancaneve nella versione italiana del
film).

The opera singer Lina Pagliughi decided to retire
in Gatteo Mare (where she died in 1980). She was
known worldwide for her sweet voice and tender
singing (she sang the songs of Snow White for the
Italian movie).

Between the 16th and 17th century, a family of
architects from Gatteo marked the history of
architecture and engineering in Europe, Africa
and the New World. In roughly one century, they
made a breakthrough in the evolution of military
architecture and their works have been recognised
as UNESCO World Heritage.

LINA PAGLIUGHI
Die weltberühmte Opernsängerin Lina Pagliughi,
die wegen ihrer lieblichen Stimme und ihren zarten
Gesang sehr gefeierte wurde, ließ sich in Gatteo Mare
nieder (wo sie 1980 verstarb). In der italienischen
Filmfassung gab sie dem Schneewittchen ihre
Stimme.

anche per vocazione sociale ed economica.

realities – geographically, socially and
economically.
Fondata nel Medioevo come piccolo porto, Gatteo
Mare è la frazione turisticamente più importante del
Comune di Gatteo (9.094 abitanti), situato a circa 10 km
dal litorale. Gatteo nasce come stanziamento romano
in vicinanza dell’antico “Compitum” - l’attuale San
Giovanni in Compito. Oltre al Castello Malatestiano,
offre al visitatore l’opportunità di accedere ad altri
importanti edifici storici come il delizioso Oratorio
di San Rocco e la Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Lorenzo
Martire, di origine tardo duecentesca. Sant’Angelo è la
frazione più consistente dal punto di vista demografico
ed industriale. Anche la piccola frazione di Fiumicino
si distingue per la presenza di attività industriali e
artigianali.
Founded in the Middle Ages as a small harbour,
Gatteo Mare is the most tourist-oriented village
of the Municipality of Gatteo (9,094 inhabitants),
which is located at about 10 km from the coast.
Gatteo was originally a Roman settlement in the
proximity of the ancient “Compitum” – currently San
Giovanni in Compito. Besides the Malatesta Castle,
the town boasts important historic buildings such
as the charming oratory of San Rocco and the parish
church of San Lorenzo Martire, dating to the late 13th
century. Sant’Angelo is the most populated village and
industrial centre. Even the small village of Fiumicino
is characterized by a number of industrial and
craftsmanship activities.
Il Castello Malatestiano
Il Castello di Gatteo sorge nel XIII secolo presumibilmente sul luogo di un preesistente accampamento romano. A configurazione quasi quadrangolare, munito
di una torre e cinque baluardi, in origine era circondato da una larga fossa, oltrepassabile con un ponte
levatoio. L’ingresso è costituito da un arco a tutto sesto sormontato da una torre quadrata, il cassero, sulla
cui sommità si erge la seicentesca torre civica. Nella
seconda metà del ‘700 le mura, ad eccezione del lato
orientale, vengono abbassate, la fossa circondante il
castello riempita di terra ed il ponte levatoio, unico
accesso all’edificio, sostituito con un ponte in pietra.
The Malatesta Castle
The Gatteo’s Castle was built in the 13th century, likely
on the spot of a pre-existing Roman camp. With a
quadrangular plan, one tower and five ramparts, the
castle was originally surrounded by a large moat and a
drawbridge crossing it.
The round-arched entrance is surmounted by a square
tower, the donjon, and a 17th-century clock tower on
the top of it. In the second half of the 18th century, the
wall was lowered – except for the East side –, the moat
was filled with earth and the drawbridge – the sole
access to the castle – was replaced by a stone bridge.
Oratorio ed affreschi di San Rocco
A questo Santo, che secondo la tradizione popolare ha
il dono di guarire dalla peste, fu dedicata la costruzione
dell’Oratorio di San Rocco, edificio di origine trecentesca
al cui interno sono presenti numerosi affreschi
votivi risalenti ad un periodo compreso tra il 1484 e
il 1508, “frutto di artisti popolareschi, abili specialisti
nell’esecuzione di pitture votive..”. Si tratta di pitture
legate ai periodi di pestilenza del 1435-36 e 1458-61 e
rappresentano oltre a San Rocco e San Sebastiano, la
Madonna con Bambino, Santa Lucia e la “Crocifissione
con la Maddalena e le pie donne”. Rendono ancora più
suggestivo il clima di questo piccolo gioiello le sinopie,
abbozzi preparatori raramente conservati.
Oratory and frescoes of San Rocco
The oratory was built and dedicated to Saint Roch
who, according to the popular tradition, healed the
plague victims.
It is a 14th-century building featuring many votive
frescoes dating back to a time between 1484 and 1508,
“made by common people, skilful artists of votive
paintings...”. The frescoes represent the plague of 143536 and 1458-61 and depict Saint Roch, Saint Sebastian,
the Virgin and Child, Saint Lucy and the “Crucifixion,
Mary Magdalene and the pious women”. The sinopias
– preliminary fresco sketches hardly preserved –
enhance the ambiance of this small jewel.

Sull’origine del nome sono state formulate diverse
ipotesi: su un antico marmo del II sec. d.C. compare
“Gattae” riferito a Caio Mario Gatta, liberto di Caio;
altri pensano che il termine Gatta - oscillante poi nelle
forme “Cathei o Catei”, “Gathei” “Gattei” - sia un genitivo
di possesso. “Gatteo” è un nome fondiario (fundus
Catei) formatosi nel medioevo (sec. XII) divenuto poi
nel 1311, “Tumba Ghatei”, cioè casale con abitazione
padronale o fortificata e successivamente “Commune”
(1358) e “Castrum” (1371). Infine si richiama l’esistenza
di un “Castrum Chati”, accampamento dei Chati o
Chatei, popolo celtico che si insediò, per concessione
dei Romani, nella zona compresa fra Rubicone e Savio.
The origin of the name Gatteo
A number of hypotheses exist on the origin of the name
Gatteo: an ancient 2nd-century AD marble features
he word “Gattae” referred to Caio Mario Gatta, Caio’s
freedman. Others believe that Gatta – varying also in
the forms of “Cathei” or “Catei”, “Gathei”, “Gattei” – is a
possessive case. “Gatteo” is a land name (fundus Catei)
created in the Middle Ages (12th century) that, in 1311,
became “Tumba Ghatei”, which means hamlet with
manor or fortified house, and later “Commune” (1358)
and “Castrum” (1371). Others recall “Castrum Chati”, a
camp of the Chati or Chatei, Celtic people authorized
by the Romans to settle down in the area between the
Rubicon and Savio rivers.

raison d’une vocation sociale et économique

Gatteo Mare - ungefähr 10 km vom Meer entfernt - wurde im
Mittelalter als kleiner Hafen gegründet und stellt sicherlich
den aus touristischer Sicht wichtigsten Teil der Gemeinde
von Gatteo dar. Gatteo (9.094 Einwohner) selber wurde als
römische Siedlung in der Nähe des antiken „Compitum“
angelegt - die heutige Ortschaft San Giovanni in Compito.
Neben der Festung des Malatesta-Adelgeschlechts, können
die Gäste auch andere bedeutende Bauten besichtigen, wie
zum Beispiel das sehr schöne „Oratorio di San Rocco“ und die
Pfarreikirche von San Lorenzo Martire, die aus dem späten
XIII Jahrhundert stammt. Sant’Angelo ist sicherlich der aus
demographischen und industriellen Sicht wichtigste Ortsteil.
Auch im kleineren Ortsteil Fiumicino sind Industrie- und
Handwerkerbetriebe angesiedelt.

et important du point de vue industriel. Même le petit
village de Fiumicino est caractérisé par la présence

Die Malatesta Festung
Die Festung von Gatteo wurde im XIII Jahrhundert errichtet,
vermutlich auf den Überresten eines vorexistierenden
römischen Lagers. Auf einem fast viereckigen Grundriss,
mit einem Turm und fünf Bollwerken, war die Festung einst
durch einen breiten Graben umgeben und nur durch eine
Zugbrücke zu erreichen. Der Eingang besteht aus einem Tor
mit Rundbogen, über dem sich der „Cassero“, ein viereckiger
Turm, erhebt und auf dessen Spitze sich der Stadtturm aus
dem XVII Jahrhundert befindet. In der zweiten Hälfte des XVIII
Jahrhunderts, mit Ausnahme der östlichen Seite, wurden die
Mauern gesenkt, der Graben um die Festung herum mit Erde
aufgefüllt und die Hängebrücke, die alleine den Zugang zur
Festung gestattete, mit einer Steinbrücke ersetzt.
Le Chateau De Malatesta
Le Château de Gatteo a été construit au XIIIe siècle,
probablement sur le lieu d’un camp romain préexistant.
Il se développe autour d’un plan quadrangulaire,
avec une tour et cinq remparts. Le château était
initialement entouré d’un large fossé qu’enjambait un
pont levis. Le portail d’entrée, en arc en plein cintre,
est surmonté d’une tour carrée, le donjon, au sommet
duquel se trouve la tour municipale du XVIIe siècle.
Dans la deuxième moitié du XVIIIe siècle, les murs,
exception faite pour le côté est, ont été abaissés, le
fossé entourant le château comblé de terre et le pontlevis, le seul point d’accès, remplacé par un pont en
pierre.

Das Oratorio wurde dem Heiligen S. Rocco gewidmet der,
gemäß der Volkstradition nach, die Gabe hatte die Pest heilen
zu können. Das Gebäude geht auf das dreizehnte Jahrhundert
zurück und beherbergt zahlreiche Votivfresken die auf die
Zeit zwischen 1484 und 1508 zurückzuführen sind. Sie sind
das „Werk von begabten Volkskünstlern der Votivmalerei…“.
Die Wandmalereien gehen auf die Pestjahre 1435-36 und
1458-61 zurück. Neben der Darstellung der beiden Heiligen
Rochus und Sebastian, findet man noch eine Madonna mit
Kind, die Heilige Lucia und die „Kreuzigung mit Magdalena
und den frommen Frauen“. Die Atmosphäre dieses Kleinods
wird durch eine Sammlung an Sinopen zusätzlich bereichert:
dies sind vorbereitende Skizzen die Seltenheitswert haben.
Der Ursprung des Namens Gatteo
Die Herkunft des Namens ist umstritten und es wurden
verschiedene Hypothesen aufgestellt. Auf einem antiken
Marmorstück aus dem II Jahrhundert n.C. erscheint die
Inschrift „Gattae“ - sie steht im Zusammenhang mit Caio
Mario Gatta, der ein freigelassener Sklave des Caius war;
andere behaupten, dass der Begriff Gatta - und dessen
Abwandlungen „Cathei oder Catei”, „Gathei” „Gattei” - ein
Genitiv sein kann. „Gatteo” ist ein Grundstücksname (fundus
Catei), dessen Ursprung auf das Mittelalter zurückzuführen
ist (XII Jahrhundert) und der im Jahre 1311 zu „Tumba Gathei“
umgeändert wurde, also eine herrschaftlicher oder befestigter
Wohnsitz, und schließlich zum Begriff „Commune“ (1358) und
„Castrum“ (1371) abgeleitet wurde. Schließlich könnte es auch
einen Zusammenhang zu „Castrum Chati” geben: ein Lager
der Chati oder Chatei, ein keltisches Volk das sich im Gebiet
zwischen dem Rubikon und dem Savio, mit Genehmigung der
Römer, niederließ.
Oratoire et fresques de San Rocco
L’oratoire est consacré à Saint Roch, le Saint qui, selon
la tradition populaire, guérit de la peste. Le bâtiment
date du XIVe siècle et conserve, à l’intérieur, des
fresques votives d’une période comprise entre 1484
et 1508, « œuvre d’artistes populaires, spécialistes
expérimentés dans la réalisation de peintures
votives… ». Il s’agit de fresques liées aux périodes de
la peste de 1435-36 et 1458-61, représentant Saint
Roch et Saint Sébastien, la Vierge et l’Enfant, Sainte
Lucie et la « Crucifixion avec Marie Madeleine et des
femmes pieuses ». L’atmosphère de ce petit bijou est
rendue davantage suggestive par les sinopias, les
dessins préparatoires des fresques qui sont rarement
conservés.
L’origine du nom Gatteo
Plusieurs théories existent sur l’origine du nom “Gatteo” :
le nom “Gattae”, référé à Caio Mario Gatta, un affranchi
de Caio, serait gravé sur un bloc de marbre du IIe siècle ap.
J.C. D’autres estiment que le nom Gatta – variant ensuite
dans les formes “Cathei” ou “Catei”, “Gathei”, “Gattei” – est
un génitif possessif. “Gatteo” est un nom foncier (fundus
Catei) formé au Moyen Age (XIIe siècle) devenu, en 1311,
“Tumba Ghatei”, à savoir une ferme avec une maison
de maître ou fortifiée et ensuite “Commune” (1358) et
“Castrum” (1371). On rappelle également l’existence
d’un “Castrum Chati”, camp des Chati ou Chatei, une
population celtique qui, autorisée par les Romains,
s’installa dans la région entre les fleuves Rubicon et
Savio.
