anything !
When autumn comes, enjoy the freedom and authenticity
of the banks of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the Alps
and within easy reach of major Swiss cities (Geneva, Lausanne
and Montreux).
Recharge your batteries in a region of preserved natural
beauty, wonder at these wide-open spaces, and discover the
secrets of this area which is full of character and ready to
explore without pretensions or gimmicks.
The true treasures of Thonon-les-Bains are found in its purest
natural features; exceptional thermal springs, lofty peaks
far from the crowds, trails made for roaming at your own
pace, the lake and rivers with their wealth of activities...
All against a backdrop of a well-cared-for environment.
When the first snowflakes fall, head for our Christmas
markets, and warm up with a hot chocolate before exploring
the lively streets of the town to enjoy the magical atmosphere
and unique shopping. In the evening, admire the latest artistic
creations at the «Maison des Arts du Léman». After a full
day you will be ready for a gourmet meal at a Savoyard
restaurant where you can sample the local specialities.
Take time for yourself, discover what’s important.

Housed in the vaulted cellars of CHATEAU DE SONNAZ, this
museum dates back to 1863. Come and discover its collections,
1 temporary and 3 permanent exhibitions.
2015: a year for Gallo-Roman architecture
Almost ten years after the transfer of the archaeological repository
to the town of Thonon-les-Bains, this exhibition marks a new stage
in our knowledge of Thonon in Roman times. Thanks to the variety of
materials brought to light in Thonon and the surrounding area since
the 1960s, the exhibition describes the daily life of our Gallo-Roman
ancestors. The displays help visitors discover the domus (homes),
their occupants and their way of life. «Made in Thonon» pottery is
highlighted. Be sure to also visit the permanent collections.
2016: the illuminators and Duke Amadeus VIII
The Chablais museum will house an exhibition on the Apocalypse
manuscript ordered by Savoyard Duke Amadeus VIII in 1432.
Part of this medieval illumination masterpiece, currently kept in
Madrid, was created in Thonon. Against a «Savoyard» backdrop,
it illustrates the key moments in this enigmatic and symbolic
text.
This 2016 exhibition will feature the creation of the manuscript,
the deciphering and interpretation of the Apocalypse text, the
representations of the end of the world through the ages and
cultures.
